Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as guests Pastor Howard Brown, Luke Gibson, and Steven Roberts. Pastor Howard is with the East County Transitional Living Center. The East County Transitional Living Center helps the homeless living on the street get back into life by helping them beat addictions and overcome difficult life situations. Steve has been through the program and will share his amazing journey and testimony. Luke Gibson is a business owner who helps ECTLC by hiring people in the program and giving them valuable work experience.

The story began over 15 years ago as a group of businessmen and a small church began to transform not only an old motel but thousands of homeless men, women, and children. Many of the larger churches in the county, the Southern Baptist Association and the City of El Cajon all came together to develop one of the most successful transitional living centers in the country.

The story continues as you now consider becoming a part of providing an additional 40 rooms for homeless families. Today in San Diego County hundreds of families are sleeping in their cars and are waiting for a room to open so that they too would experience the transformational change that is offered here at ECTLC. Join them and become a part of that story by donating your time, talent and or treasure to this great work that is happening right here in San Diego. ECTLC plans to expand its outreach by building two dormitory style building and remodeling 40 of its existing rooms opening the door for 40 to 50 new families and possibly 100 children. No child in the USA should have to sleep in a car or under an overpass. Won’t you help them to provide a hand up and guidance back into safe and healthy living conditions? Your donation no matter how large or small will help us to achieve our goals this year.

Tune in for an inspiring show and learn how you can be part of this important organization. To learn more about ECTLC, go to https://ectlc.org.

Would you donate to a cause that you don’t believe in? What if you were forced to support a cause because you were part of a certain organization? If you are a teacher, you are likely a member of a union. Even if you’re not in a union, you generally still have to pay dues to a union. If you are a conservative and/or a Christian, your dues are likely being used for causes you do not support. But, there is a Supreme Court case that may soon change that.

Today on Educate for Life, Kevin will speak with David Schmus. David has been involved in public schools for over 15 years, both as a high school AP US History/Government teacher and as a Christian Club adviser. He has been repeatedly honored as Most Inspirational Teacher. David and his wife Elizabeth have been married since 1992 and have 3 daughters. He holds an M.A. in Biblical Studies and Theology from Biola University, taught Biblical Worldview classes as an adjunct professor for 14 years, and was recently a featured speaker for the Talbot School of Theology Chapel Series. Now on staff full-time with CEAI as Executive Director, David is passionate about coming alongside Christian educators to provide them with resources and encouragement to enable them to walk out their calling.

David will also talk about Janus v. AFSCME, a Supreme Court case concerned with freeing public school educators from forced unionism. Many expect the case will be resolved in favor of Mark Janus when the ruling is announced in June. If the court does rule favorably, public employees will have the option to join a union, another professional association like CEAI, or nothing at all. We encourage you to get the facts and pray about this important decision. It is important to note that CEAI is not anti-union, but are opposed to forced union membership. If you feel God is leading you to remain a member of your union, then do that. However, if you are a teacher and feel God is leading you to seek other options, then CEAI encourages you to allow them to serve you by becoming a member of their association.

Tune in for a very informative episode. If you are a teacher or know someone who is a teacher, you can find great resources and information at their website: https://ceai.org/.

Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as guests, Tobias Haglund and Kristi Fox. Tobias and Kristi are with Young Life a Christian Youth Ministry. Young Life is a group of caring adults who go where kids are, win the right to be heard and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.

The vision began in the early 1930s when an elderly woman, Clara Frasher, recruited a group of her friends to pray for the teenagers attending Gainesville High School in Texas. Six years later, during the spring of 1939, a young seminarian, Jim Rayburn, started a chapter of the Miracle Book Club in Gainesville, Texas, a small town 75 miles to the north of Dallas. As he was developing the program in Gainesville, Rayburn also worked with a local pastor, Clyde Kennedy.

Today, the Young Life mission is still committed to incarnational witness: embodying and expressing the love of Christ through relationships with all kinds of kids: WyldLife is our outreach to middle school kids, Young Life for those in their high school years, and Young Life College is our program for college and university students. In addition to the ministries mentioned above, Young Life reaches military teens through a program called Club Beyond, the Small Towns/Rural initiative brings Young Life to communities of fewer than 25,000 people, and Amicus is Young Life’s student exchange and hosting program for international kids.

Tune in to hear more about Young Life and their incredible ministry and how they are changing lives one kid at a time. If you want to explore more, head over to https://www.younglife.org.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Jon Erwin. Jon Erwin is the co-writer and director of a new movie called “I Can Only Imagine” based on the hit song by the Christian band MercyMe.

It’s the song that brings ultimate hope to so many … often in the midst of life’s most challenging moments. Amazingly, the song was written in mere minutes by MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard. In reality, those lyrics took a lifetime to craft. Although he found faith at a young age, life wasn’t easy for Bart. He leaned into an active imagination and his love of music as escapes from a troubled home life. As he grew older, Bart turned to football in hopes of somehow connecting with his abusive father. But a career-ending injury—combined with the vision of a teacher who saw unlimited potential—set Bart on a musical pathway.

Chasing a dream while running from broken relationships with his father and Shannon, his childhood sweetheart, Bart hits the road in an old, decrepit tour bus with his new band MercyMe—named for his grandmother’s favorite expression. With the guidance of a grizzled music-industry insider, the band begins a journey none of them could ever have imagined.

A gripping reminder of the power of forgiveness, “I CAN ONLY IMAGINE” beautifully illustrates that no one is ever too far from God’s love—or from an eternal home in Heaven.

Tune in for an inspirational story and to learn more about the directors and the movie. To find a theatre and get tickets for the movie, head over to https://icanonlyimagine.com/themovie.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Rebecca Kiessling. Rebecca Kiessling is a remarkable woman with a powerful story to tell. She is the daughter of a woman that was raped and she was conceived as a result. Her mother could have aborted her, but she didn’t. Rebecca is here today to explain how abortion is not acceptable even under the exception of rape.

We’ve all heard someone say: “I’m pro-life, well, except in cases of rape . . .” or “I’m pro-choice, especially in cases of rape !” Have you ever considered how really insulting it is to say to someone, “I think your mother should have been able to abort you.”? It’s like saying, “If I had my way, you’d be dead right now.” And that is the reality with which Rebecca lives every time someone says they are pro-choice or pro-life “except in cases of rape” because Rebecca absolutely would have been aborted if it had been legal in Michigan when she was an unborn child, and she can tell you that it hurts. But she knows that most people don’t put a face to this issue — for them abortion is just a concept — with a quick cliche, they sweep it under the rug and forget about it. Rebecca hopes that, as a child conceived in rape, she can help to put a face, a voice, and a story to this issue.

In reply, some have said to her, “So does that mean you’re pro-rape?” Though ludicrous, she’ll address it because she understands that they aren’t thinking things through. There is a huge moral difference because she did exist, and her life would have been ended because she would have been killed by a brutal abortion. You can only be killed and your life can only be devalued once you exist. Being thankful that her life was protected in no way makes her pro-rape.

Tune in to hear a powerful testimony and learn how even under rape, abortion is not a good response. If you want to learn more about Rebecca Kiessling and her work, head to http://www.rebeccakiessling.com/.

School shootings appear to be on the rise. According to some sources, there have already been 17 school shootings in 2018. That’s twice as many as the first two months of last year. What is causing this rise in school shootings? Is there a solution to this problem?

Kevin’s guest today is Nate Landis with Urban Youth Collaborative. According to Nate Landis, there is a good solution that would solve gun violence in schools and it isn’t gun control. The real solution is to get churches involved in schools.

Nate Landis and the Urban Youth Collaborative sponsor student-led Christian groups that work their schools and communities to impact them for Christ. Urban Youth Collaborative (UYC) is a coalition of 45 church partners that support student-initiated and student-led faith clubs at 97 middle and high school campuses in San Diego County and motivational assemblies in Mexico.  Students serve physical and spiritual food to over three thousands of their friends each week and look for practical ways to make a difference in their local communities. In 2017, young people generated over 30,000 hours of voluntary community service in Southern California and around the world!

Tune in to hear how Nate Landis believes the issue of school shooting can be solved by students from the inside out. If you want to find out more about Urban Youth Collaborative, head over to https://www.uyc.org. You can also learn how to get involved to change your community and/or your school.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Doug Axe. Douglas Axe is the director of Biologic Institute. His research uses both experiments and computer simulations to examine the functional and structural constraints on the evolution of proteins and protein systems.

After a Caltech Ph.D. he held postdoctoral and research scientist positions at the University of Cambridge, the Cambridge Medical Research Council Centre, and the Babraham Institute in Cambridge. His work and ideas have been featured in many scientific journals, including the Journal of Molecular Biology, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Nature, and in such books as Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt by Stephen Meyer and Life’s Solution by Simon Conway Morris.

Throughout his distinguished and unconventional career, engineer-turned-molecular-biologist Douglas Axe has been asking the questions that much of the scientific community would rather silence. Now, he presents his conclusions in this brave and pioneering book. Axe argues that the key to understanding our origin is the “design intuition”—the innate belief held by all humans that tasks we would need the knowledge to accomplish can only be accomplished by someone who has that knowledge. According to Axe, for the ingenious task of inventing life, this knower can only be God.

Starting with the hallowed halls of academic science, Axe dismantles the widespread belief that Darwin’s theory of evolution is indisputably true, showing instead that a gaping hole has been at its center from the beginning. He then explains in plain English the science that proves our design intuition scientifically valid. Lastly, he uses everyday experience to empower ordinary people to defend their design intuition, giving them the confidence and courage to explain why it has to be true and the vision to imagine what biology will become when people stand up for this truth.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Thomas Purifoy. Thomas Purifoy is the producer of “Is Genesis History?”, a movie all about determining whether Genesis can be proven to be actual history or a series of mere legends.

Is Genesis History? features over a dozen scientists and scholars explaining how the world intersects with the history recorded in Genesis.  From rock layers to fossils, from lions to stars, from the Bible to artifacts, this fascinating film will change the way you see the world.

The film’s goal is to provide a reasonable case for Creation in six normal days, a real Adam and Eve, an actual fall, a global flood, and a tower of Babel. Dr. Del Tackett, the creator of “The Truth Project,” serves as your guide—hiking through canyons, climbing up mountains, and diving below the sea—in an exploration of two competing views … one compelling truth.

If you want to learn more about the movie and the experts involved in making the film, check out IsGenesisHistory.com.  You can also purchase the movie either on DVD or download and stream it.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for those age 10 to 24. Every day in the U.S. and average of over 3,470 people attempt suicide. These statistics are staggering and tragic. Why are so many considering and even attempting suicide? Is there anything we can do to reduce these numbers?

Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as his guest, Ray Comfort. Ray Comfort is the Founder/President/CEO of Living Waters Publications. Ray Comfort is a well known evangelist and apologist. After relocating from New Zealand to Southern California in the late 1980s, Ray introduced a long line of pastors and churches to a biblical teaching which he called Hell’s Best Kept Secret. The positive and enthusiastic response that followed took Ray’s Living Waters Publications ministry to a whole new level.

Ray Comfort has produced several movies speaking to the truth of God and the Bible, including his newest film, Exit: The Appeal of Suicide. In this movie, he explores depression, its sources, and why so many see suicide as the only way out.

If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, please toon in and share this show. Please also check out and share Ray Comfort’s new video at https://www.livingwaters.com/movie/exit-the-appeal-of-suicide/

A recent study by Point Loma Nazarene and the University of San Diego Kroc School of Peace uncovered some horrifying statistics about the extent of this underground industry in San Diego County. Human trafficking is estimated to be an $810 million annual business that could have more than 8,000 victims a year. Out of 20 high schools surveyed, 100 percent reported incidents of recruitment, and 42 percent of first-time prostitution arrests are in fact sex-trafficking cases.

Shockingly, San Diego is one of the cities this kind of crime is most prevalent in. Today on Educate for Life, Kevin has as guests Michele Shumaker, who is with the Point Loma Nazarene University Center for Justice and Reconciliation, Jessica, who is a survivor of human trafficking, and Dr. Jerry Andrews, who is the senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church in San Diego.

Michele Shumaker’s organization runs programs called kNOw More. The curriculum was developed based on the pedagogical understanding that students will best respond to and retain learning experiences gained through:

  • Creative Mediums
  • Direct Interaction with the Material
  • Peer Facilitation

The curriculum is primarily co-facilitated by a survivor facilitator and a teaching artist/joker who move the participants through drama, interaction with peer facilitators, dialogue, and informative visuals. This program creatively empowers the students to recognize human trafficking in their current context and to respond when they or their peers may be targeted for trafficking.

They also offer a “Beauty For Ashes” scholarship for survivors of human trafficking. Jessica is a recipient of that scholarship and is here to tell an amazing story of how she was forced into that lifestyle and was later able to leave it.

Dr. Jerry Andrews’ church participates in Churches Against Trafficking. It is an organically started networking group that has come to fruition from the strong desire to connect Christian ministry leaders wanting to engage in the Anti-Trafficking work in San Diego. Collaborating with other like-minded Christians, we held our first meeting in June of 2013. We currently meet bi-monthly in Mission Valley at Mission Church of the Nazarene, 4750 Mission Gorge Place, San Diego, CA 92120.

Tune in for an information packed show and learn how you can get involved in your community to fight human trafficking. If you want to learn more about the Center For Justice and Reconciliation and their kNOw More Program, check out. https://www.pointloma.edu/centers-institutes/center-justice-reconciliation/know-more-human-trafficking-awareness-prevention. October 31st, 2017 marks an important point in history. It is the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther and the 95 Theses, which kickstarted what would be known as the protestant reformation. Corey Marsh joins Kevin to talk about its importance in history and how it is still having an impact or Christianity today. Corey is a seminary professor at Southern California Seminary and he will also talk about a book he helped edit called “Forged From Reformation” which details this incredible history.

It has been five-hundred years since Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door at Wittenberg, fanning the flames of the Protestant Reformation. These many years later, we are no less indebted to Luther and the many who accompanied him in times of reform – who set out to return Christian thought and practice to a more biblical orthodoxy. Exemplified by Luther’s five solas (sola scriptura, sola Deo gloria, sola Christus, sola gratia, and sola fide), the Reformation represented and was spurred on by a return to biblical scholarship in the original languages, and by a more consistent application of the literal grammatical-historical hermeneutic.

Forged from the fires of the Reformation’s heightened attention to the Bible and its details, a more refined and systematic dispensational understanding has developed and continues to be shaped. This book, written by a diverse and accomplished group of dispensational scholars, articulates in each and every chapter how, five-hundred years later, dispensational thought upholds and advances the legacy of the Reformation unlike any other theological system in the Christian tradition.

If you want to learn more about the book and the authors, you can go to forgedfromreformation.com. You can also order the book from this site. To find out more about Corey and Southern California Seminary, head over to http://socalsem.edu.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Dr. Corey Miller. Corey Miller, Ph.D., is the President/CEO of Ratio Christi (2015). While he grew up in Utah as a sixth-generation Mormon, he came to Christ in 1988 and he has since been a youth and college pastor, a Bible college and university professor, campus minister, lecturer, and first and foremost an evangelist. From 2009-15 he served on staff with Cru’s Faculty Commons ministry at Purdue. He is an Adjunct Professor of Philosophy and Comparative Religions at Indiana University-Kokomo. He is variously published and is co-editor of Is Faith in God Reasonable? Debates in Philosophy, Science, and Rhetoric (2014) and co-author of Ex-Mormon Scholars Tell Why: Testimonies and Reasons (forthcoming, 2017). He holds masters degrees in philosophy, biblical studies, and in philosophy of religion and ethics.

Corey was raised a sixth-generation Mormon in Salt Lake City, Utah, with ancestors who were direct acquaintances with Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Although Utah Mormonism is less insulated now, growing up he was honestly unaware that there were so many other options outside of Mormonism. But he was not concerned and felt secure in his religion.

Corey was invited to spend the summer of 1988 with a friend at his home in California. But his father made it contingent upon attending a non-denominational Christian camp there called Hume Lake. Although Corey was not living the ideal Mormon life at the time, he had no thought of ever changing religions. He believed Mormonism to be the one true religion. If it were not for the appeal of spending the entire summer on California beaches, he probably would not have attended the camp at all.

I arrived at Hume Lake without any great expectations. To his surprise, the camp speaker delivered a message that week on the topic of hell with a robust presentation of the Gospel. His soul resonated with the message and for the first time in his life, he understood his need for forgiveness. Devastated and in tears, he realized he was a sinner and could not merit forgiveness. He found security in Christ and it was further authenticated by seeing Christ’s love displayed through the people in a way he had not previously encountered. There was something authentic and non-religious about it. Even with his religious upbringing, he never experienced God’s love in that way until he met these people and then met their source, Jesus Christ.

Tune in for a powerful discussion on why Dr. Corey Miller and many other people have left Mormonism. Visit ratiochristi.org to learn more about the mission of Ratio Christi and the impact they are having around the world. You can also learn how you can get involved.

There is a common perception that the teaching of religion, particularly Christianity, is not allowed in public schools. The most common reason for this is the separation of church and state. But many states not only allow it, they require it as part of their curriculum.

For example, in the state of California, sixth grade students are expected to: “Note the origins of Christianity in the Jewish Messianic prophecies, the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as described in the New Testament, and the contribution of St. Paul the Apostle to the definition and spread of Christian beliefs (e.g., belief in the Trinity, resurrection, salvation).”

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin’s guest is Eric Buehrer. Eric is the president of Gateways For Better Education. As a former public school teacher, Eric Buehrer can relate to both sides of the religion-in-schools debate. He writes and lectures extensively on the subject of religion and public education. His audiences include parents, teachers, school administrators, school board members, college students, and churches.

Join Kevin and Eric for an insightful conversation on the connection between religion and public schools. Whether you are a teacher or a parent, we hope this conversation will both inform you and encourage you. If you want to learn more about Gateways To Better Education, check out http://gtbe.org.

In a sequel to last week’s episode on moms, Kevin has two special guests on the show. Their names are Missy Robertson and Kimberley Fletcher. Being mothers themselves, they understand how difficult raising children can be, but believe that it is the most important role women have.

Missy Robertson is the wife of Jase Robertson and has learned to live life in the spotlight as she plays an important part in her family’s record-breaking reality television series, Duck Dynasty. Despite the increased publicity on her family, company and personal life, she has become a strong voice for morality and virtue both locally and globally. Missy is a devoted mother of three children who focuses on having a strong, happy and loving family. She also runs her own jewelry business and is the ultimate working mom.

Kimberly Fletcher is an Air Force wife, mother of 8 children and president and founder of Homemakers for America (founded 2004). She is also the author of the book WOMEN: America’s Last Best Hope, and a contributing writer with The Blaze and Townhall.com. Labeled by the media as “an unabashed America-loving homemaker,” Kimberly has made it her personal mission to educate and inspire the women of America to realize their immeasurable worth and powerful influence on society simply by being who they are.

These two women shatter the modern perception that women need to be outside of the home in order to be influential. Rather, they both believe that the greatest power a woman has to influence a culture is by being a mother.Tune in to Educate For Life to hear a great discussion. You don’t want to miss it.

Being a modern mom is difficult. There is increasing pressure on women to get out of the home by getting a good education and getting a high-paying job. While these are great things, new research suggests that these are not the most important things for women. Surprisingly, being a parent and being involved with their children rank the highest. So how does the modern mom juggle all these priorities?

Kevin’s guest today is Candy Carson. She is the wife of Dr. Ben Carson, presidential candidate and current Director of HUD. Candy is also a mom. She knows first-hand the importance of being a mom and raising children. She will share her valuable experience.

Candy is also involved in the Mom’s March For America, taking place in Omaha, Nebraska. The goal of the Moms March is to shine a light on the powerful influence of mothers on our nation and come together to stand for decency, truth, family, freedom, and the constitution that protects our divine rights as mothers. They hope to counter the cultural pressure on women that says women should not focus on being moms.

Imagine if you had a transgender family member or friend. Would that change your perception of that person? Would it change how you interacted with that person? Or would you just accept that person for who they are and move on? These are difficult questions to answer.

Our guest Kori Peterson has had to explore these questions to find answers on how to love her father who has become transgender. Kori has also had to deal with the pain and suffering that comes from abortion. Through her faith in Jesus Christ, she has learned that she needs to show love to her father, but that love doesn’t mean endorsing his lifestyle.

Currently, Kori Peterson is with Concerned Women For America. Concerned Women for America (CWA) is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization with a rich history of over 35 years of helping their members across the country apply Biblical principles in all levels of public policy.

Whether you have a transgender family member or not, we hope that this episode will be insightful and encouraging.

According to drugfree.org, twenty-three million Americans are currently addicted to alcohol and/or other drugs.  This is a shocking and sad statistic. But what’s worse is that only one in 10 addicts (2.6 million) receive the treatment they need. This results in a treatment gap of more than 20 million Americans. Among reasons for not receiving treatment, is cost and lack of insurance. But perhaps a larger hidden reason is the addictive power of these drugs keeps pulling addicts back into a vicious cycle where there can seem as if there is no way out.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin is talking to a trio of guests representing Teen Challenge. Teen Challenge is a non-profit organization that relies entirely on the generous donations, funding and volunteer efforts of both individuals and organizations throughout communities in order to offer services that help addicts escape addiction at no cost to the individual. They are on the front lines in cities across the United States helping to close the addiction treatment gap and giving hope and freedom to millions of people.

You will also hear the incredible story of Rita. She is a graduate of Teen Challenge. She will share first hand what it is like to be heavily addicted to drugs and what it is like to find a way out. If you want to learn more about Teen Challenge, check out teenchallenge.org. You can read testimonials or find information on getting treatment. Transgenderism is becoming more and more prominent in American culture. But why? Is it a harmless life style or a destructive trend? Today on Educate For Life Kevin’s guest is Denise Schick. Denise Schick has experienced transgenderism first hand.

When Denise was 9 years her father sat down with her and explained how he wanted to become a woman. This was too much for a 9-year-old to understand and process. It caused her to become confused about her own gender and to develop a hatred toward her father.

Years later, she reconciled with her father and began to understand why he was the way he was. Now Denise runs a ministry focused on helping to heal families and individuals that have been negatively impacted by transgender family members. Today on Educate For Life, Kevin is talking with attorney Chuck Limandri to shed light on an important issue that may soon affect the San Diego public school system. The district wants to implement a curriculum that would educate students about Islam. On the surface, that doesn’t sound so bad, but Chuck Limandri sees it as an attempt to indoctrinate students.

The motivation to implement this new curriculum comes from studies that seem to show that Muslim students are bullied more than any other group. But the studies are deeply flawed in many ways including the fact that they consider disagreeing with Islam as a type of bullying. CAIR, the Center for Islamic and American Relations is the group that wants to implement this curriculum. They have stated that their goal is to use San Diego as a test platform to see if they can implement it all across the U.S. in order to use the education system to transform America into an Islamic country.

Chuck Limandri has viewed the curriculum and he says it is incredibly one sided and teaches Islam uncritically to impressionable students. He says it is not the role of public schools to promote one particular view or religion over another. Furthermore, it would be promoting a belief system that is diametrically opposed to American values in many ways. According to what he has seen, this is exactly what this curriculum does. He says that if public schools would teach Islam in balance with other world religions, he would see no issue with it.

Tune in to Educate For Life to learn about this important issue and see why Chuck has legal objections to the implementation of this proposed curriculum. You don’t want to miss it.

Today on Educate For life, Kevin continues the discussion on global warming with guest Mike Oard. Kevin will drill down to the important facts. What factors are contributing to climate change? Can we do anything to mitigate climate change? Are we headed for another ice age? How many ice ages have there been? Our guest Mike Oard will help answer these important questions.

Michael has a Masters Science degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Washington and is now retired after working as a meteorologist with the US National Weather Service for 30 years. He has researched and speaks on the compelling evidence for Noah’s Flood and the Ice Age that followed, and how the incredible wooly mammoth connects to biblical history. Michael has published many papers in his field in widely recognized journals and has written An Ice Age Caused by the Genesis Flood, Ancient Ice Ages or Gigantic Submarine Landslides?, The Missoula Flood Controversy and the Genesis Flood and The Frozen Record. He is also the author of Frozen in Time, The Weather Book and Life in the Great Ice Age.

Tune in to Educate For Life to hear what science actually says about climate change. Mike will demonstrate how the current models for predicting the course of climate change are flawed. He believes that the observed effects of climate change are far less dire than computer models make it out to be.

Imagine if you or someone you know lost their job or business because of their point of view. Imagine if they were being pressured to endorse a view they disagreed with and they got fired because they refused to cave. This is exactly what happened to our guests Blaine Adamson and David Jones. Their religious freedom has been challenged.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin talks to two people who have been targeted because of their beliefs on one issue. Blaine Adamson is a printer in Kentucky who was sued for declining to print shirts endorsing a gay pride event. He and his attorney, Jim Campbell, will describe what happened in his case and how they argued that no one should be forced to endorse a view they don’t agree with.

You will also hear the story of David Jones. David was a teacher in the San Diego area who was fired. David was being pressured to call one of his female students as a boy. But because of his Christian beliefs, he concluded that doing so would violate his conscience. Not only was he being told he had to call a girl as a boy, he was told he basically had to lie about the issue to the girl’s parents. The school eventually fired him because he refused to deny what he knows is the truth.

Tune in to Educate For Life to hear how real people’s lives are being seriously affected simply by what their worldview is. Should people be forced to endorse messages they morally disagree with? Are these people being unloving and intolerant by not endorsing views that are contrary to their beliefs? Tune in to find out.

Some say if we don’t stabilize our climate now, we will soon see cataclysmic weather events and even cause another ice age. Others say our climate is self-regulating and will withstand any effects man may have on it.

Both sides claim to have rock solid scientific evidence to back up their theories and today on Educate For Life, Kevin will examine the evidence. He is joined by guest Dr. Jake Hebert. Dr. Jake Hebert is a physicist who has studied factors that affect the environment. He has also written a book that examines how the ice age occurred in light of a Biblical Flood.

He believes that a person’s view on this issue depends on your worldview, more specifically whether you accept an old earth view or a young earth view. According to his research, the ice age was a one-time event caused by things far beyond man’s control. He has also done important research on the Milankovitch Theory, which has fueled the current debate over climate change. He has found serious flaws in the theory that could turn the debate on its head.

If you’re a parent, you may soon need to have that “talk” to answer any questions your child now has about sex. But soon, you may have to be more concerned about the content being taught in these classes and the type of homework they will be bringing home.

Today on Kevin’s show we have two guests to talk about this delicate topic. Ashley Bever is a concerned parent who has seen the new California sex ed curriculum first hand. She is alarmed by what she has seen. Starting in the 6th grade, students will be given access to pornographic materials. In addition, they will be taught that having sex at any age, with anyone, at any time is perfectly healthy. Not only is this material age-inappropriate, it flies in the face of what is medically appropriate.

Our other guest is Dean Broyles, an attorney who works with the American Center for Law and Justice. He understands how the laws about sex education are written in California. He believes that this new curriculum being pushed by a liberal group called “Advocates For Youth” is twisting the law and using it to bully schools and parents into adopting this appalling curriculum.

Tune in to hear important details about this new curriculum. You may be shocked by what you are about to hear. If you want to take action and help prevent this curriculum from being implemented in your school you can visit http://change.org, search for SDUSD and sign the petition found there.

The issue of immigration is a hot topic in American culture. The debate rages in the political sphere between those who want to build a wall and limit immigration and those who want an open border to allow everyone in. So who’s right? What do we do with the undocumented immigrants who are already here?

Today on Education For Life Radio, Kevin’s guest is Esther Valdez. She is an attorney who specializes in immigration law. Esther Valdés is the Principal Attorney at Valdés & Associates, located in San Diego, California. The firm represents clients in Immigration cases, in California, Arizona and Texas. Ms. Valdes is regularly featured on Telemundo Network News Program, “Al Rojo Vivo”, and has been interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union Tribune, Enlace Spanish magazine, and Reuters, regarding Immigration and Mexican Asylum cases.

Ms. Valdés serves as a volunteer for the San Diego County Office of Education, Migrant Education Program, and serves as a frequent guest speaker for Hispanic youth.

Ms. Valdés attained her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall), where she studied Immigration and Asylum Law, and was an Associate Editor for the Berkeley Journal of International Law, as well as the La Raza Law Journal.

She will answer many common questions that many people have about how America should deal with immigration issues. She believes there is a way to protect our country and enforce the laws while still being a welcoming, compassionate country.

They are available on our phones, computers, and tablets. Maybe you play for fun or use it to bribe your kids to do their chores. But you may not realize how much they are affecting you or perhaps how it is affecting your kids. Today on the show we have Julie Doan, an emerging expert in the field of video game addiction. She partners in this field with her husband, Dr. Doan, who was once a game addict himself. She will share surprising stats and practical ways that will help you and your family become unhooked from games.

A national, cross-sectional study at Iowa State University of 1178 children ages eight to eighteen showed that 8.5% of the children demonstrated behaviors of addiction similar to other behavioral addictions like pathologic gambling. The kids addicted to video games demonstrated lower grades in school, attention problems, and other health problems. The video game addiction rate is between 8% and 12% worldwide based on research by several research groups and Douglas Gentile, Ph.D.

The problem is, as a society in general, we are not educated about the long-term mental and health risks of video game addiction. Video games are free and available everywhere, and people are unaware of the one in ten who can and will be addicted to video games. The video game addict destroys his or her life and the lives of the people they love. It’s time our society understands this addiction, prevent it, and help the one in ten who are addicted to video games.

Tune in to hear more about this important subject. If you want to learn more about this subject you can go to http://www.hooked-on-games.com.

It is said that those who forget history are destined to repeat it. But, there are those who not only want to forget history, they want to rewrite it. Today on EFL Radio, we have Dr. David Barton who is better known as America’s Historian.

David Barton is the Founder and President of WallBuilders, a national pro-family organization that presents America’s forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on our moral, religious and constitutional heritage. David is the author of numerous best-selling books, with the subjects being drawn largely from his massive library of tens of thousands of original writings from the Founding Era. He also addresses well over 400 groups each year.

Kevin and David Barton will be discussing and debunking popular myths surrounding America’s early history and its founding fathers. One of the most attacked and vilified is Thomas Jefferson. Did he really decide to rewrite the Bible to remove the parts he didn’t like? Well, you’ll just have to tune in to find out!

The final frontier. Besides being the backdrop for a great Sci-Fi TV show, it is the subject of today’s show. Kevin Conover’s guest is Dr. Henry Richter, who helped put the first American satellite into space.

Henry was picked to oversee the development of America’s first earth satellite, Explorer I. Henry says he lobbied to get Dr. James Van Allen’s package (a Geiger counter) on the satellite. This led to the discovery of the Van Allen Radiation Belts, which influence things from radio communications to the strength of the northern and southern auroras. The results from the Van Allen instrument were at first puzzling, largely because the instrument was saturated with the unexpectedly high levels of radiation surrounding the earth. Also, it was not until Explorer III that they had a tape recording of an entire orbit.

Dr. Henry Richter became a Christian later in life. He says, “I was a busy churchman, but I sure didn’t like the name ‘Christian’. As the chairman of the board of a big, name-brand church, I told them that as long as I was in charge we weren’t going to get one of the born-again Christians here!” It was mainly through the influence of a former secretary (who became his wife), who seemed to have a deeper walk than most ‘religious’ people he knew, that he began to seek answers to the more meaningful questions, finally becoming a born-again Christian himself in 1969. “Yet for a long time I believed that God used evolution to put it all together, but that’s just not possible.”

Concerning the big bang theory and man’s attempts to explain the universe without a Creator, he said, “The big bang and evolution is one of the biggest adult fairytales I can imagine.” This goes along with his book, The Universe: a surprising cosmological accident, currently under revision.

Senator Anderson has served four years in the State Assembly and four years in the State Senate. After four years of service in the State Assembly and four years of service in the State Senate, in 2014 Senator Anderson was re-elected to represent San Diego county for a second term in the Senate. When first elected to the Assembly, he promised his constituents, “I am not going to Sacramento to be a potted plant.”

Senator Anderson is here to sound the warning bell about Senate Bill 18. Known as the Bill of Rights for the Children and Youth of California, it resolves to invest in all children and youth in order to achieve specified goals, including having safe and healthy environments. This bill would make legislative findings and declarations relating to the needs and well-being of children and youth in California. The bill would create, until November 30, 2024, the Joint Legislative Committee on Children and Youth, with 18 members appointed by the Senate Committee on Rules and the Speaker of the Assembly, as specified. The bill would require the committee to develop “California’s Promise to its Children and Youth,” a framework for the care and welfare of children and youth in various contexts, including, but not limited to, health care, nutrition, homeless assistance, education, and foster care, as specified. The bill would require the committee to consider an unspecified Senate Concurrent Resolution, the Bill of Rights for the Children and Youth of California, if it is enacted and takes effect on or before January 1, 2018, for purposes of developing the framework.

On the surface, this may not sound bad, but Senator Joel Anderson believes this bill provides the framework for parental rights to be taken from parents and given to the state. Much of the text of the bill is vague and open to subjective interpretation. This bill would allow the state to impose arbitrary rules about the proper care of a child in nearly every area of life imaginable. Imagine if CPS knocked on your door and took away your child because the State decided that you were not providing your child with “appropriate” nutrition because he or she had a soda with lunch?

Tune in to hear Senator Anderson make his case against this bill. If you would like to read the bill yourself, you can go to https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB18. If you would like to sign a petition to stop this bill from being enacted, you can visit http://anderson.cssrc.us/.

Fossils are the preserved remains of creatures that lived long ago. But, just how long ago? According to evolutionary theory, the fossil record shows how life evolved over millions of years. According to the creation account, the fossil record was formed quickly during a worldwide flood. It would have buried sea creatures first and then eventually land creatures as well, accounting for the order we see in the fossil record. Earth only had one history, so which theory is correct?

Kevin’s guest on the show today is Dr. Marcus Ross. Dr. Ross is a paleontologist who teaches at Liberty University. Marcus Ross has loved paleontology (especially dinosaurs) since he was a kid growing up in Rhode Island.  He has continued pursuing this passion, currently researching about a group of extinct marine reptiles called mosasaurs.  He is greatly interested in issues surrounding the creation-evolution controversy and the intersection of geology with the Biblical events of creation and Noah’s Flood.

Dr. Ross believes that the evidence from geology and paleontology points to the truth of the creation account and the event of a worldwide flood and he’s here to tell you why. Tune in for this information packed show and learn about the supporting evidence for the biblical accounts of creation and the flood.

DNA holds many mysteries. It is the instruction book for all life on earth and is a complicated code that scientists are trying to unravel. But could it actually be used to prove whether the biblical story of Adam and Eve is historically accurate? Our guest Dr. Robert Carter believes this is so through the advancements in the analysis of mitochondrial DNA.

Dr. Carter obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics, and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his Ph.D. in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patented fluorescent protein) to a biotech company.

Tune in for an information packed show and find out whether mitochondrial DNA can trace the human race back to a single woman.

“The Shack” is a movie based on the book by the same title written by Christian author, William P. Young. After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips spirals into a deep depression that causes him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.

Today on the show, Kevin has Greg Koukl, an apologist and president of Stand to Reason. He is here to discuss the possibly controversial theology presented in the movie. Mainly, is it biblical to depict God as three distinct people and to depict God the Father as a woman? The answer may surprise you. Greg also shares some of his incredible apologetics knowledge and presents arguments and answers to some of the tough questions in Christianity.

Censorship. Is it a benign tool used to prevent hate and prejudice or a weapon used to silence people who have a conservative and/or Christian worldview? To answer this important question, Kevin has Elizabeth Martin Johnston on the show today. She is better known as the Activist Mommy to her fans.

Elizabeth is an Activist Vlogger (video blogger) who educates about current events and topics that are important to families. The pulse behind everything Elizabeth does is her love for Jesus Christ, who saved her from her sin during her teenage years and launched her on a very unpredictable journey of service to Him, which has included foreign missions, orphanage ministry, outreach to kids in troubled inner-city areas, backyard bible clubs, street ministry, pro-life rescue ministry, public speaking, producing a movie, and homeschooling her ever-growing family.

Elizabeth is on a mission to expose the double standard of censorship. She has personally been on the receiving end of censorship, being banned from Facebook twice for taking a biblical stance on homosexuality. She is gathering evidence to expose Facebook for being biased against the worldview she holds to. If you’re watching today and you have experienced similar bias, Elizabeth asks that you contact her through her website at http://activistmommyofficial.com.

Today on the show Kevin has two amazing experts, Dr. Del Tackett and Dr. Andrew Snelling, to talk about an exciting new movie called “Is Genesis History”. Is Genesis History? is a comprehensive documentary featuring scientists and scholars looking at the world and explaining how it intersects with the history recorded in Genesis. From rock layers to fossils to lions to stars, this fascinating film will challenge and change the way you see the world. Showing in theaters as a one-night event on Thursday, February 23 only (tickets at http://www.fathomevents.com/event/is-genesis-history), Is Genesis History? shines new light on our origins, providing a positive argument for Biblical Creation and the Flood. Dr. Del Tackett, the creator of “The Truth Project,” serves as your guide—hiking through canyons, climbing up mountains, and diving below the sea—in an exploration of two competing views … one compelling truth.

Dr. Del Tackett is the former president of the Focus on the Family Institute and a former Senior Vice President of Focus on the Family. He is also the creator of Focus on the Family’s The Truth Project—a nationwide initiative designed to bring the Christian worldview to the body of Christ. He’s here on the show today to talk about his role in the new movie and to share some of the amazing evidence that has been found.

Dr. Andrew Snelling will follow up with more evidence from Geology. Dr. Andrew Snelling has been involved in extensive creationist research in Australia and overseas, including the formation of all types of mineral deposits, radioactivity in rocks and radioisotopic dating, and the formation of metamorphic and igneous rocks, sedimentary strata and landscape features (e.g. Grand Canyon, USA, and Ayers Rock, Australia) within the biblical framework for earth history. As well as writing regularly and extensively in international creationist publications, Andrew has travelled around Australia and widely overseas (USA, UK, New Zealand, South Africa, Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China) speaking in schools, churches, colleges and universities, particularly on the overwhelming scientific evidence consistent with the biblical account of Creation and Noah’s Flood.

Kevin’s guest on the show today is Dan Barker. He is a Christian turned Atheist and is currently the co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. He is a contributing editor of Freethought Today and is involved with the Foundation’s state/church lawsuits. He regularly travels the country and the world giving lectures, performing concerts, and participating in debates with theists, many at college and university campuses.

Dan was a Christian preacher for 19 years. While preaching, he began to have questions on the validity of the Bible. Following five years of reading, Dan gradually outgrew his religious beliefs. “If I had limited myself to Christian authors, I’d still be a Christian today,” Dan says. “I just lost faith in faith.” He announced his atheism publicly in January, 1984. He tells his story in the books Losing Faith in Faith (1992) and Godless (2008).
