Modern Mom – Candy Carson

In this inspiring episode of The Educate for Life Podcast, we explore how Christian parenting, biblical worldview formation, and faith-centered education shape the next generation. As culture grows increasingly confused about truth, purpose, and the family, conversations like this help Christian parents stay grounded in Scripture while navigating modern challenges. If you care about Christian education, homeschool curriculum, and raising children who love God, this episode offers powerful wisdom and encouragement.

Wisdom From a Modern Mom: Candy Carson’s Journey of Faith, Family, and Purpose

Candy Carson—author, ministry leader, and co-founder of the Carson Scholars Fund—joins Kevin Conover to share her remarkable story as a wife, mother, and follower of Christ. Known for her deep commitment to service, biblical values, and empowering young people through education, Candy brings a heartfelt perspective shaped by decades of motherhood, marriage, and public service alongside Dr. Ben Carson.

Throughout the conversation, Candy unpacks the calling of Christian motherhood in a rapidly changing world. She reflects on nurturing children with a biblical worldview, cultivating strong character, and encouraging young people to love learning. Her passion for Christian parenting, apologetics-ready faith, and education reform offers a compelling reminder that mothers shape not only their homes—but the future of the nation.

Candy also discusses her involvement with Moms March for America, highlighting why encouraging virtue, liberty, and God-given purpose in the next generation is more important than ever. Through her humility, wisdom, and lived experience, she offers both comfort and challenge to parents who want to anchor their families in biblical truth.

Key Takeaways

  • Why Christian parenting must intentionally build a biblical worldview in children
  • How mothers can nurture resilience, character, and curiosity in a confused culture
  • The role of Christian education and reading literacy in shaping long-term success
  • Practical encouragement for parents who feel unsure how to answer tough faith questions
  • Why America needs spiritually grounded, well-educated families now more than ever

Being a modern mom is difficult. There is increasing pressure on women to get out of the home by getting a good education and getting a high-paying job. While these are great things, new research suggests that these are not the most important things for women. Surprisingly, being a parent and being involved with their children rank the highest. So how does the modern mom juggle all these priorities?

Kevin’s guest today is Candy Carson. She is the wife of Dr. Ben Carson, presidential candidate and current Director of HUD. Candy is also a mom. She knows first-hand the importance of being a mom and raising children. She will share her valuable experience.

Candy is also involved in the Mom’s March For America, taking place in Omaha, Nebraska. The goal of the Moms March is to shine a light on the powerful influence of mothers on our nation and come together to stand for decency, truth, family, freedom, and the constitution that protects our divine rights as mothers. They hope to counter the cultural pressure on women that says women should not focus on being moms.

  • Candy Carson: “We’re fearfully and wonderfully made. If something feels difficult, it’s probably because you’re missing a building block—so go learn it. God made your mind capable of incredible things.”
  • Kevin Conover: “That’s such a powerful reminder for students today—especially when they’re surrounded by discouragement instead of truth.”
  • Candy Carson: “Moms are the nurturers, the encouragers. We help children understand their God-given worth and equip them to live with courage and purpose.”

[00:00:56] mother of three sons kandi thank you so much for being on the show today well it’s great to be here and let me let me

[00:01:02] disabuse because some notions of there’s stuff that gets out and it keeps being

[00:01:07] replayed and and you know once it’s out there I guess it’s out there but I really was not a triple major I was a

[00:01:15] double with music and in psychology and I was pretty mad I did it you know that some people might call that a triple

[00:01:22] major it’s not a real sisters and then I changed the course from pre-med when I realized and I don’t

[00:01:30] think that’s where God wanted me to be so I just that’s great but but but yeah

[00:01:36] I just just put that when that notion the rest and it’s probably something else I miss but but it’s in my book so

[00:01:44] just fantastic and well I’m glad you

[00:01:49] clarified there for us talk tell us the name of the the name of your book Oh a doctor in the house

[00:01:55] um it was released January of 2016 and

[00:02:02] it was it it’s kind of about our journey you know how my husband and I met and

[00:02:08] how he’s always been there for me but some of the struggles and trials I mean everybody you know a lot of people think

[00:02:15] that if you’re in the public eye or or if you’re you know you’ve got this kind

[00:02:21] of blessing with that kind of blessing that you know you don’t have any struggles we all have struggles so you

[00:02:27] know the thing of it is we’re in a place I mean it is just so wonderful and it’s

[00:02:33] such an opportunity to be born in this country that’s so true how many people

[00:02:38] don’t even realize how fortunate we are because when you’re born in this country it’s not about where you are it’s about

[00:02:44] where you’re going if you put the effort into it in this country at least the way it used to be and while we’re trying to

[00:02:50] get it back then you could become anything that puts in your mind to do

[00:02:56] that’s really conservative and I have an opportunity to speak to schoolchildren

[00:03:02] about this on a periodic basis when we open up our reading rooms around the country these are these are rooms that

[00:03:09] are designed to entice children to learn the love learning and they read for points and then they turn the points for

[00:03:15] prizes and after a while they really learn to love learning each one of them is decorated whimsically and has old

[00:03:21] child-friendly sitting like beanbag chairs and little Adirondack rocking chairs and alphabets all over the place

[00:03:27] plenty of award-winning books but but the thing of it is I mean when they go in there and they can go in through

[00:03:33] their own little world and develop themselves they learn to love learning and it’s just so cool to be able to

[00:03:38] speak at the UM at the programs they have and tell them the things I’ve heard my husband say for years as a

[00:03:45] neurosurgeon when he was on the speaker circuit since the 80s yeah that’s so interesting like yeah but he would say

[00:03:51] you know your brain is an amazing thing if you have a normal brain and most of

[00:03:58] us do even if you don’t have a normal but now I can get into that one later too but it’s just if you have a normal

[00:04:04] brains you can do almost anything because your brain can process two million bits of information every second

[00:04:11] yeah it’s phenomenal million dyt ESS yeah you can’t you can’t overload it

[00:04:18] because if you were to learn one fat versus sex second and that’s hard to do

[00:04:23] because it’s hard to even conceptualize in just one second but if you could then

[00:04:29] it would take you three million years to start to challenge the capacity well the

[00:04:35] challenge the capacity of your brain so and we’re fearfully and wonderfully made we’re mates returning hey man so we don’t have to worry we don’t have to

[00:04:41] worry about learning too much yeah you don’t and and then to some kids it and

[00:04:47] it’s sad that you know most of us these days there are a lot of negatives including the schoolchildren when they

[00:04:52] should be hearing as much positive as they can and that that’s what moms are for but that’s what any nurturers for

[00:04:58] any any person that might have a little more insight into what life is about

[00:05:04] should be be able to help anybody else that they see help them understand you

[00:05:09] know that you’re that you’re fearfully and wonderfully made and if there’s something that seems really difficult to you in school or some subject matter in

[00:05:17] the newspaper or wherever it’s probably because you’re missing some of the

[00:05:22] building blocks and every subject is built on building blocks whether it’s

[00:05:27] reading chemistry psychology um ooh physics you know whatever think about it

[00:05:35] if you if you want it to read and you new odd lers except for a esnt oh yeah I

[00:05:43] would really mess you you’re missing those building blocks but you put those in there and reading for snap and it’s

[00:05:51] the same with algebra geometry all the biology all of those so say you were out

[00:05:56] of school are you removing to a different different area you missed some of the building blocks that way or maybe

[00:06:02] you’re all sick a day or two and you miss building blocks that way or maybe

[00:06:07] you had a substitute teacher who that that wasn’t their forte that particular subject and they can break it down so so

[00:06:12] it’s up to you to determine whether you’re going to succeed or not so people

[00:06:18] have to understand I mean yeah you know maybe you don’t understand something but let the teacher know or let let the you

[00:06:24] know anyone that’s near sphere of influence if they can’t help you then go to someone else and and if they can’t

[00:06:31] help you most times they’ll try to direct you to the right place yeah sure sure find that

[00:06:36] out because you go to a library you can go there but but think of it is and when I go speak at these reading room opening you know I

[00:06:43] can say you know everybody in this room cares about you because we put in a special reading room just for you so you can develop yourself to be the best you

[00:06:48] can be so um chandi’s nearly the kids that is just I I get such a kick out of

[00:06:54] seeing those kids that’s great and if somebody’s interested in learning more about this is there a website that they

[00:06:59] can go to to learn more about what you’re doing oh sure it’s Carson scholars org Carson

[00:07:05] scars and and can anybody apply to be involved with this or how does that work oh yeah we accept volunteers all the

[00:07:12] place firstly we’re basically you know we encourage any one of them to say if

[00:07:19] they’d like to donate a reading room at the school where they matriculated as an elementary school student or middle

[00:07:25] school we even put some in high schools and I tell you you know in a high school some of the kids aren’t reading on level

[00:07:31] oh yeah there’s a lot of kids that aren’t so yeah the state of education in our country is a big deal and there’s a

[00:07:36] lot of schools are not doing the job that we would hope that they would do well I mean it’s part of it is

[00:07:43] bureaucracy and and and you know teaching to tests and things like that but but the sad thing is you know our

[00:07:49] kids are suffering for it you know yes and because our kids are our future then that means our country

[00:07:55] will suffer for it that’s the trend and we’re seeing some of the evidence of that because you know our system of government the space is

[00:08:02] based on a well informed and well educated populace and if you don’t know how much gonna right away yeah yeah yeah

[00:08:08] so so that’s why it’s important that each and every one is educated to the

[00:08:13] best that they can be so you know it’s funny I remember once um you know

[00:08:19] running to a mom and and um you know he was telling me how she taught her kids to iron at an early age and I said

[00:08:25] really and she says you know I’m empowering them as I say you know you’re right it’s that’s great that’s great I

[00:08:32] would do but but think about it you help them to know that they can take care of themselves no matter what yeah they get

[00:08:38] married or not and so on so forth but she was teaching them it you know aged 10 or so yeah you know to do that sort

[00:08:44] of thing and I’m you know because because for I’d you know I had boys and I just figured hey you know I won’t bother but as long as they’re doing how

[00:08:49] I’m working ah but but the thing with it you can’t empower people the more you empower them

[00:08:55] with different types of knowledge you know the better the better off they’ll be as an adult I mean they can adjust

[00:09:02] almost anything because they know they can do just about anything that’s not true that’s so true it’s the opposite of

[00:09:07] a nanny state or something like that where you’re creating people that are dependent upon things like government or

[00:09:12] others they’re they’re becoming independent and then they become a valuable resource to others my guest today is candy Carson and she is

[00:09:20] involved with a national gathering of Mother’s Moms March for America which really has a lot to do with what we were

[00:09:26] just talking about and we’re coming up on a break here but when we get back I’m gonna ask candy why she decided to be

[00:09:31] involved with moms March for America and also more about what she sees this

[00:09:37] country needs how it needs to change in order to become a country that provides more opportunity and more fulfilling

[00:09:44] lives for more people we’re gonna be right back [Music]

[00:12:05] thanks for listening today this is educate for life I’m your host Kevin Conover my website has joined educate

[00:12:11] for life org you can pick up a recording of this program as well as many others and my guest today is candy Carson and

[00:12:17] she is involved with moms March for America if you want to check it out it’s

[00:12:22] moms March us a.com and candy I wanted to ask you why did you get involved with

[00:12:29] this particular organization and what is it that they’re trying to what is the

[00:12:34] statement they’re trying to make through this March you know they have a whole

[00:12:40] declaration when you go to the website you know of the things that you know we

[00:12:45] as we as mothers should consider okay I

[00:12:51] mean when you think about mothers and you think about your own mom and a lot

[00:12:56] of us were blessed to have moms that you were stay-at-home moms some were not and

[00:13:02] I’m actually mine was not but she was home enough to make sure we could just

[00:13:08] like my husband’s mother she was away most of the time but you know they work things out together but Mother’s like

[00:13:16] they’re the primary makers of homes and the primary molders of the future of our

[00:13:21] nation yeah as with that you know so liberty and freedom begins in the home I mean if

[00:13:26] you think about it you know you can as I was saying before you’re empowering people and that gives them liberty and

[00:13:33] freedom to become the best that they can be with you if you help them to have a

[00:13:38] full understanding of of what life is really about I mean including why we’re

[00:13:44] all here you know it’s you go back to the Bible and the wisdom that comes from

[00:13:49] there and but helping helping everyone to understand that freedom really isn’t free you know it that’s why so many

[00:13:58] people want to come to our country because they have the freedom to make choices to to become whatever they want

[00:14:05] to be I mean some countries it doesn’t matter how hard you work no matter what you do what you invest into whatever

[00:14:11] you’re doing you cannot move from where you are you know whereas in America it’s

[00:14:17] not where you are but where your knowing that that’s just such a wonderful concept and a wonderful idea

[00:14:24] that our founding fathers came up with and and have enabled us to take

[00:14:29] advantage of but some of that slipping through our fingers I mean we have the debt that we have oh my gosh it’s just

[00:14:35] you know this we’re over 20 20 trillion yards I mean brilliant but and it does

[00:14:43] kind of roll off your tongue but you know we’re at 18 trillion I remember my husband saying us a lot on the trail so

[00:14:49] I you know I got into saying it to with 18 trillion dollars if you were and and

[00:14:55] it really it doesn’t sound that bad but if you were to try to pay that off at a rate of 10 million a day 10 million

[00:15:03] every day it would take you five thousand years to pay that off Wow and

[00:15:11] see we’re putting this on the backs of our children grandchildren and their grandchildren that is not fair you know

[00:15:16] our founding fathers and everyone after them tried to make it better for the next generation and here we are making

[00:15:22] it worse come on yeah no and when it comes down to it a family is so significant in this issue and and that

[00:15:28] that brings me to a kind of a question I mean your your work ethic you can see through what you’ve done is incredible

[00:15:36] where did you get your work ethic from was that from your parents or did you did that develop along the way or how

[00:15:42] did that arise and you say work that’s explained well I’m looking at your what

[00:15:48] you did in college and how you were a violinist and you did all these different things and it’s and you got an

[00:15:54] MBA and it’s a lot of stuff so well I don’t know I my mom was a teacher maybe

[00:16:02] that maybe that was my problem she was constantly driving you forward

[00:16:07] well she yes and and and there were expectations yeah and I thing is you know when you have expectations high

[00:16:14] expectations people whatever expectations there are people will live up or down to them if you shoot for the

[00:16:21] stars maybe you land on a moon oh there you go but but you know will you will have you

[00:16:29] have will have may have made some type of success out of my mom was also our church organist so

[00:16:37] she required that we play keyboard and something else and so you know we were

[00:16:43] we were shuttled around to do stuff she kept us busy so we didn’t get into trouble and that’s what we lost didn’t

[00:16:50] have time I mean like with my boys with our boys they started instruments a little bit

[00:16:55] late because we were on the road so much with my husband speaking engagements but um when they started instruments I was

[00:17:04] afraid to teach him myself because it had been so long since I’ve been at that level and I remember it was a painful experience listening to myself practice

[00:17:11] at the beginning so and I didn’t watch the master you know we did find a

[00:17:16] teacher that lives close by and this teacher was so phenomenal that I mean the teacher can make such a big

[00:17:22] difference man was so phenomenal he had my kids reading music in three

[00:17:27] months they could read music and play in tune and on stringed instruments and if

[00:17:35] you guys can read we’re going to play so I started doing musical arrangements then I hadn’t done I hadn’t done much

[00:17:41] arranging before then but I started arranging you know writing you know different types of interpretations

[00:17:48] different things and it was kind of fun to play together and we practice and I

[00:17:54] tell you they knew that they had to play the music reasonably well or else we

[00:17:59] weren’t gonna that was a challenge of feet and I one of the last things we did

[00:18:05] was um one of my husband’s friend was getting married the second time and and I’m we were supposed to play at his

[00:18:10] wedding and the night before and we went to the rehearsal dinner and we got home

[00:18:15] about 11:00 and bayit kept putting it off they said no we can’t practice I got this I got that I said yes and I thought

[00:18:21] when we got home I walked in the door I said you know we got a practice don’t you yeah mom so here we were it’s 11:00

[00:18:28] at night we practice till 3:00 in the morning right well I mean you know baby

[00:18:33] they knew the drill and they kept putting it off so that’s what we did we practice till 3:00 in the morning we had

[00:18:38] to leave at 8:00 hey you do what you got to do because I have a I said you are not messing up this one is wedding that

[00:18:44] would be oh yeah nothing like that to drive you forward for sure I mean they were in

[00:18:49] high school so I mean that yeah they understood the drill but of course yeah so I was going to ask you you know with

[00:18:56] all this involved and I saw I was reading a little bit about you know Ben Carson and the involvement in politics

[00:19:02] and I read something that said that you were opposed to your husband participating in politics until you

[00:19:08] became a grandmother is that true that you you kind of changed that kind of changed your mind that was part of it

[00:19:14] I’m there but that yeah that was probably the biggest parse and what about what one thing was because God God

[00:19:20] was pointing him in that direction yeah like when he you know he wasn’t that particular about doing it to begin with

[00:19:25] me said God you know I don’t I’m not all that enthused about this but if you open

[00:19:32] the doors I will walk through it she shut them while we’ll gladly sit down and he kept open and doors I mean you

[00:19:37] know the money started coming to me he had over half a million signatures um you know on petitions you know was

[00:19:44] people asking them something they saying well gosh maybe I should think about it and it wasn’t something I was looking to

[00:19:51] do because he had just retired from medicine and during that 12 yeah you’re looking for a break you’re looking for a

[00:19:56] break right no I want my husband back yeah exactly so are you so so we could sit down in

[00:20:02] front of the fireplace and just eat popcorn you know and that’s not something that what happens but so are

[00:20:09] you happy that he didn’t then you didn’t get the nomination then are you allowed to say that on the air I’m you know I’m

[00:20:14] I am content with what we’re God has placed us mm-hmm I it still what wasn’t

[00:20:23] what I was I had signed up for yeah you know I mean it you know it you still I’m

[00:20:29] in as a cabinet member spouse you know there’s no handbook you don’t really

[00:20:35] know what you should be doing or what you shouldn’t be doing I mean there’s something to know you talk with the

[00:20:41] ethics department but but I’m still you know the kinds of things that you can or cannot do aren’t always readily

[00:20:48] available so that that’s that that’s the only thing about being in Washington DC

[00:20:53] and you know not having a really good idea of what things you can and cannot

[00:20:59] however um if something gets put on my heart and you know I’m pray about it and

[00:21:04] it turns out that you know that’s the same Scott wants me to do I do it so I ran into this wonderful lady who’s with

[00:21:12] the she’s a director of women’s initiatives for the Museum of the Bible and that’s a new museum that’s opening

[00:21:20] up the November I’m heard about this I was in Washington DC right so incredible

[00:21:26] yes you know the green family Hobby Lobby yes yes yes and they won that lawsuit the lawsuit they had were on

[00:21:33] being released they didn’t want to participate in a particularly health

[00:21:39] care program because it some of the funding would go towards abortions and

[00:21:45] they they didn’t believe in abortions because you know they felt that life is sacred one core sieved then unless you

[00:21:53] can make another one you shouldn’t take was a boy so anyway um they did win that and turns out when I was doing a little

[00:22:00] research I found out that the green family was mmm they were the largest collector of Torah scrolls yeah that’s

[00:22:07] that is incredible I want to talk a little bit more about that when we get back we’re coming up on a break my guest today is candy Carson she is the wife of

[00:22:14] Ben Carson and she’s involved with moms march usa.com that’s it on September

[00:24:30] you want to pick up a recording of this show or any other shows you can go to my website you can also visit me on youtube

[00:24:37] as well as on the podcast it’s on iTunes my guest today is candy Carson wife of

[00:24:42] Ben Carson and she’s very involved with politics and of course her husband is

[00:24:47] Secretary of HUD and so we’re just getting her opinion on what it means to

[00:24:52] be a mom in today’s culture and how moms can influence the culture for good supporting the values that this country

[00:24:59] was founded on and one of the things that is going on right now with Hobby Lobby is they’re doing the Museum of the

[00:25:06] Bible in Washington DC and candy I wanted to ask you both about what’s happening there but also if somebody

[00:25:13] were to ask you as a mom how do you instill a strong Christian faith into your family along with something like

[00:25:19] the Museum of the Bible what advice would you give them but let’s pick up on the Museum of the Bible

[00:25:25] okay yes there’s some museum primarily

[00:25:31] donated by the green family of Hobby Lobby they did the initial investment

[00:25:37] it’s an eight building structure that’s been renovated and it is totally incredible there’s a ceiling that’s a

[00:25:45] hundred and forty feet long that’s digitized so that you can see the Sistine Chapel

[00:25:52] their home haha that’s crazy and five minutes later it’s kind of digitized into another form

[00:26:00] of biblical themed artwork from around the world I mean it just it can change

[00:26:06] and change and change them enough that’s one of the biggest things I mean it’s just incredible you know the doors I

[00:26:11] believe they’re 40 feet tall they look like brass I wasn’t able to get close because they

[00:26:18] had to now is it open is this museum open yet no no it opens I’m sorry I

[00:26:24] should have said that before it opens November 11th excuse me November 17th and so on 11:17 at 11:17

[00:26:35] in the morning there’s a bell that will ring it’s a replica of the Liberty Bell

[00:26:40] it’s tuned to the exact note e-flat the same one as the one in Philadelphia and

[00:26:45] when that bell rings the organization has coordinated with churches across the

[00:26:51] country for bells to ring same time that’s different is incredible at it but

[00:26:58] it’s the third largest museum but it’s privately funded you can still get them free but they do they ask for a donation

[00:27:04] but you know if you don’t have one now you’re just going in and they do have memberships that you can get online but

[00:27:10] um they like they have this it’s called something like flyby technology something like that is like IMAX only

[00:27:17] it’s in the round it’s all the way around you 360 degrees and there will be

[00:27:22] I don’t know how they film this stuff but it’s like totally panoramas all around a 60 degrees and it’s like you

[00:27:30] can fly through Washington DC you feel like you’re kind of flying and you’re going into buildings as you’re flying and you can see scripture that’s that’s

[00:27:39] inscribed on lost but that’s their chisel into walls and things all over don’t washington d.c i mean that kind of

[00:27:44] technology they’re on we also don’t have a place where in the children’s area they have very interactive where you can

[00:27:52] walk on water oh great and also one where you can be like fencing and not wall down honestly

[00:28:00] also have you know like area and you sink can you sink like peter and i can

[00:28:05] sink into the ocean I don’t know because I haven’t been on that and I can and it was closed at the

[00:28:10] time that I did the hard hat tour so I just I don’t know but um um it’s just there’s so many wonderful things there

[00:28:17] and even when you walk in you either get a little gizmo or you can put it on your phone you input how much time you have

[00:28:23] and what you’re interested in and it will give you a self-guided tour I mean they’ve got it all

[00:28:29] and out so that it’s a place where people can go to find out about our judeo-christian values you know there’s

[00:28:35] a lot of people in our country who’ve heard so much negative they have never set foot in a church

[00:28:41] oh yeah there’s so our culture right now is so skeptical and so antagonistic to our Christian faith and to the Bible and

[00:28:48] and so as far as you know your attitude

[00:28:53] towards how did you have such a strong faith in God and then what advice you

[00:29:00] know motherhood is hard being a mom is very difficult what advice might you give to somebody a young mother who’s

[00:29:05] says hey I’m afraid that my kids are gonna lose their faith along the way I hear that a lot

[00:29:11] as I’m a teacher and I’m a Bible teacher and I hear frequently people mom saying

[00:29:16] you know my kid is asking questions about God and I don’t know what to say and how do you how did you go about

[00:29:23] influencing your kids Christian faith yeah well well going back to your question about you know you don’t know

[00:29:29] what to say yeah I mean you can always tell it to let’s learn together hmm that’s a great answer okay it’s really

[00:29:36] okay to say that because you know you know I’m not sure but let’s find out you know let’s listen it is something we

[00:29:42] don’t understand we can go to the pastor and find out you know so I mean and I remember Ben’s mom Tom you know I hide

[00:29:49] it how did you do so much she was doing an interview and she stayed on her knees and she’s right that’s what yeah I think

[00:29:56] I mean I mean in Proverbs it says train up a child in the way he should go and when he’s old he won’t depart from it

[00:30:02] and you know it’s true if you if you you try to try to go or do things according

[00:30:10] to the way God would once you do you try to listen to him as much as you can you know if you hear something and you’re

[00:30:16] not quite sure say lord give me a sign no you know come through with something you know he’s cute he’s pretty good

[00:30:23] about it absolutely that’s that is the truth yeah you know but reading you know you we would read together reading

[00:30:31] through the Bible together we would open the Sabbath together and then close this attitude at the end of the day you know

[00:30:39] we took them to Bible studies and church as well and you know you always try to kind of look

[00:30:47] at the world through those rose-colored glasses the ones that are better colored by the Bible hmm yeah so you have a

[00:30:54] biblical perspective on things yeah now that’s fantastic now when you and and your husband got together did

[00:31:01] you both have the same perspective on things like faith and so forth what was were you both Bible believing Christians

[00:31:07] and how did that all work out that that how did you meet dr. Carson um you

[00:31:13] didn’t read the book did you hi I have not no I have to get that

[00:31:25] don’t get too much away don’t give too much away just enough to tease our listeners when I sign the contract all

[00:31:33] the money for the book goes towards charity anyway so I’m not promoting myself in this sense but um yeah we met

[00:31:41] in college we were both from the Detroit area and I had to go away to college in Connecticut to meet and let’s see we you

[00:31:51] know we didn’t hit it off at first I mean because there was I mean I was I was just trying to make sure I made it

[00:31:57] through the first year you know when you’re when you start out in you know public school and then you go to a high-powered Ivy League university it

[00:32:04] you know it said there’s a lot of challenges and you know so I was just trying to make sure that I kept my

[00:32:09] scholarship and that you know that I made it through and the second year I

[00:32:16] think was a year when we were recruiting for the school they sent us they actually they would pay your way over

[00:32:22] Thanksgiving we usually couldn’t afford to go home over Thanksgiving because we’re just another fund for it so there

[00:32:29] was some of us poor folks on campus while everybody else went over there to get back haha but anyway um that

[00:32:36] particular year they would pay for your pay your way well they paid for some of us you know though back to our our home

[00:32:42] areas and recruit at schools in the area so we did that and during that week we

[00:32:48] discovered we had an affinity for each other so on I won’t there was a mere accident where we

[00:32:54] almost died and look what I did read about that I didn’t

[00:32:59] matter what we just celebrate about five hundred and thirty fifth month of verse three so five and five months ago we

[00:33:07] almost died but God had something he wanted us to do and that’s why we’re still here so we’re gonna keep going and

[00:33:13] doing whatever it seems he wants us to do that’s really great that’s really great well we’re right up here against a

[00:33:18] break but I wanted to ask you when you come back what do you think is the most pressing issue for moms and families in

[00:33:24] our country today so when we get back my guess is candy Carson and we’ll give her a chance to answer that question we’ll be right back

[00:33:34] hi this is jason hall president of team home loans a branch of synergy one

[00:33:39] lending i just wanted to take this opportunity to think Kevin Kahn over for the profound impact he’s had on mine and

[00:35:53] of interviews I got former Muslims on the show former Buddhist I have a former

[00:35:58] lesbian who talked about how she met Christ and he changed her life she last left the homosexual lifestyle recently

[00:36:05] interviewed Denise Schick whose father told her that he wanted to be transgender at and when she was 9 years

[00:36:10] old and she has 13 years of experience counselling and ministering to transgender families or people that are

[00:36:17] influenced or are impacted by somebody in their life who wants to be transgender I also interview a lot of scientists on

[00:36:24] the show too recently interviewed dr. James tour one of the top 50 scientists in the world who says evolution there’s

[00:36:30] no evidence at all for evolution or that it could ever happen and as well as archeologists who talk about their

[00:36:36] discoveries that validate the truth of the Bible my guest today is candy Carson she is the wife of dr. ben Carson and

[00:36:42] also runs their foundation where they help kids to learn to have a love for

[00:36:50] reading and so forth and she’s also involved with the moms March for America which is being held on September 23rd

[00:36:56] and that’s mom’s marked usa.com that organization really I’m just gonna read

[00:37:02] their declaration here it says they have a few things here that they’re they’re declaring our rights come from God not

[00:37:08] government and the Constitution of the United States was created on the inspiration of Almighty God to secure

[00:37:13] our inherent rights and the Liberty for all people we recognize number two we recognize the sacred role of mother as

[00:37:19] the heart of the home and home as the heart of society number three mothers by their divine nature and intrinsic influence determine

[00:37:26] the future of a nation molded citizens determine its institutions and shape its destiny number let’s see here that was

[00:37:33] one two three four we’re on number four parents are first and foremost the primary teachers and protectors of their

[00:37:39] children in a free society number five we affirm the self-evident truths that all men and women are created equal

[00:37:45] endowed by the creator with certain unalienable rights and then the last one freedom is a rare and prized possession

[00:37:51] which requires constant care and vigilance for its preservation and so please get involved with the declaration

[00:37:58] of mothers you don’t have to live in Omaha Nebraska in order to be involved they’ve got stuff going on all over the

[00:38:04] country and I think it’s a very valuable thing that they’re doing here and so

[00:38:09] candy I was I was asking you what do you think is the most pressing issue for

[00:38:14] moms and families in our country today as being close to somebody who’s a part

[00:38:20] of the cabinet for Trump and what are the things that you’re hearing are the

[00:38:25] things that need to change and how do you feel about that oh that’s a loaded question I guess you

[00:38:36] know because as you were talking and I was I was trying to think you know like

[00:38:42] you said the most pressing thing you know our system of government is based on a well inform a little educated

[00:38:49] populace I said that before yeah but but part of that is learning how to think for yourself right now we’re living in a

[00:38:58] nation where the one business that’s protected by our Constitution the press

[00:39:05] and they’re protected because they’re supposed to keep everybody honest now we

[00:39:13] have the mainstream media that has their

[00:39:18] own agenda and they’re trying to manipulate things and what’s sad is with

[00:39:25] so many kids being taught to the tests and so on a lot of people aren’t

[00:39:31] thinking for themselves and really thinking is this really what happened

[00:39:36] does this really make sense could this could a possibly follow be sometimes you

[00:39:43] know or C or D is everything like in a role like it should be they’re kind of just accepting accepting what they hear

[00:39:49] rather than critically thinking about it well yeah and the sad thing is because a

[00:39:55] lot of it I remember hearing and I haven’t seen the article in New York or something they put something out saying

[00:40:00] that I was my husband’s shadow and going around I mean I be growing around money

[00:40:06] goes on his egos on these listening tours to try to find out what’s really happening in the trenches

[00:40:12] you know so that we know what really works so that he knows excuse me let me put it that way she could because it

[00:40:19] really is about him but while I’m there I get to see so many wonderful things going on and and all over the country

[00:40:25] how people are coming together with public-private partnerships and finding ways to solve our problems with with

[00:40:32] housing and and one of the things that that he has been espousing is the idea

[00:40:38] of not only finding out who’s homeless but then finding out why they’re homeless

[00:40:43] yeah and then also fixing that and using that what must once you take care of

[00:40:50] their homelessness using that as a springboard so that they can take advantage of the American dream so that

[00:40:56] eventually there will be no homelessness at all but you know that it’s it’s just

[00:41:02] that that kind of thing doesn’t get out there because our mainstream media doesn’t feel that that’s newsworthy yeah

[00:41:12] you know it’s but it is and the conflict a lot of times that sells you know right instead of them yeah well it and and I’m

[00:41:19] not sure if it’s the sponsors if it’s you know who’s at the top of these media

[00:41:25] change but but on the thing of it is you have to you have to look at more than one outlet and try to get both sides of

[00:41:31] of any story because too often the stories are just loaded with falsehoods

[00:41:37] I mean it’s really sad that there there are some better and and sometimes the news is opinion and you know they ask

[00:41:44] someone well what do you think so and so is going to do about that and what who’s going to do and that’s not news you know

[00:41:49] let’s put stuff out there about the good things that are happening also you know that will encourage others to do more

[00:41:56] you notice in the with the flooding and it’s really sad that that we have to go through this but but it’s bringing out

[00:42:03] the best and our people have you noticed that yeah are helping each other yeah yeah you know why they’re helping each

[00:42:09] other is because these people’s moms and dads showed them that that was the way

[00:42:14] and then there’s the positive peer pressure that for others that may not have had that experience you know

[00:42:21] they’re helping out too you know so that so that’s why it’s important as moms that we need to try to instill the

[00:42:28] right things in our children so that first of all you learn to think for themselves and they know right from

[00:42:33] wrong because it’s not someone’s opinion it’s exactly there is a right way and

[00:42:39] there’s a wrong way now there’s some some other ways you know and a lot of times like when it comes to Washington DC and and maybe there’s a goal there

[00:42:47] you know I think everybody pretty much really has the same goal if we’re

[00:42:52] thinking of the constituents first then we want what’s best for the country but when something else takes precedent over

[00:42:59] that then you have what we have now and that’s what’s really sad is because a

[00:43:05] lot of our politicians are not they’re

[00:43:11] not really representing us yeah they’re not representing well they’re they’re oftentimes self-serving and there’s that

[00:43:18] conflict right between us yeah what’s going to be good for me and what’s going to be good for the people that I’m supposed to make legislative things for

[00:43:25] themselves that perks and things and it’s really it’s amazing on some of the stuff that you see but there’s still a

[00:43:32] few I think you can get through too I mean it by being more than a few I don’t

[00:43:38] I don’t know I just know that there are quite a few of them who have their own agenda and they’re sticking with the

[00:43:44] agenda over everything else there are those who really do care about constituents but maybe they’ve made some

[00:43:51] deals right you know I don’t I don’t know all of the history of it sure but and I don’t know everybody’s each and

[00:43:56] every person’s background on it but right now most of the cabinet members do

[00:44:02] not have their deputies in place and they’re having to do all the work and all the top-level work themselves and so

[00:44:08] they’re moving forward but but but they’re not moving it as fast a clip as

[00:44:14] they could my husband finally got with his first deputy secretaries that hadn’t been sworn in yet but so so they’re not

[00:44:21] at work but but he still you know he had to learn a lot of stuff himself you know because and I mean and it’s a good thing

[00:44:28] I mean he’s you know he’s saying that it has been good for him to know all the background but then again if you had

[00:44:34] your people in place you could have been getting a lot more done so exactly it’s kind of sad that you

[00:44:40] know that we’re at that place however we do have dedicated people in there now who care and and wouldn’t wouldn’t do it

[00:44:47] I mean well put yourself through the wringer like that you know it’s and that now sort of Reese I don’t say it don’t

[00:44:54] run don’t run because why put yourself through the wringer I mean they’re going to be saying all kind of negative things

[00:44:59] about you that I grew yeah and so on but but the good thing is we’ve got dedicated people who don’t need the

[00:45:05] acclaim who don’t need the money and dah dah dah but they’re willing to do what needs to be done to get our country back

[00:45:12] to where it was that’s fantastic well kandi thank you so much for being on the

[00:45:17] show today I really appreciate it and you know my wife and I will be praying very much for you and for your husband

[00:45:24] as he serves in the cabinet and just the support that he needs through you and we

[00:45:30] just thank you for what you represent we’re so glad that you’re involved with our government and we love you guys very

[00:45:36] much love the fact that you love God in the Bible and that’s your perspective so well please pray for the whole

[00:45:42] administration because we’ve got some people that are getting snares and snipe

[00:45:47] debt and all that but they’re really working hard I mean I think of general Kelly and and Karen and and I you know I

[00:45:54] think are the Pence’s and I think is you know of course Trump I mean he’s you know he’s getting a lot of fire oh yeah

[00:45:59] but but you know I mean it’s not like he’s not getting some things done Sean Hannity had had on one of his programs

[00:46:07] he was saying some of the things that he had gotten done that we weren’t hearing about and it’s really sad that that’s

[00:46:12] not out there as news you know but it’s it’s just but the good thing is we can

[00:46:18] think for ourselves and we don’t have to just take whatever they say lying down

[00:46:23] that’s right yeah sure that you got a full understanding of what’s going on because if there are those who want to

[00:46:29] pull the wool over our eyes yeah that’s absolutely true well thank you so much candy again thank you for being on the

[00:46:34] program today and candy is involved with moms March for America that’s happening

[00:46:40] on September 23rd please go to their website mom’s mark usa.com this is an

[00:46:45] opportunity for moms who love the Bible who love God their families who you know have these

[00:46:52] conservative values to get involved in and to join together rather than working independently but to team up work

[00:46:59] together and to make a difference in this country and moms are awesome and so

[00:47:05] I hope you’re having a fantastic Saturday today and we will be back next week also so god bless you and have a

[00:48:57] ah [Applause]

[00:49:03] welcome to educate for life I’m your host Kevin Conover if you’re a homeschooling parent I’ve designed a

[00:49:09] Bible curriculum just for your kids my website is joined I educate for life.org it’s 40 online classes defending the

[00:49:15] truth of the Bible lifetime access and one price for the whole family it’s an amazing tool to help your children

[00:49:21] develop a strong faith in Jesus Christ and the Bible and I just had a candy Carson on the show with me and the wife

[00:49:28] of dr. ben Carson and you know the moms marked USA is coming up it’s not too far

[00:49:33] away here September 23rd Omaha Nebraska and they’re doing an incredible job Kimberly Fletcher is the one who’s

[00:49:40] putting that on she’s homemakers of America oh our G and the stats on what

[00:49:47] mom’s the impact moms have is amazing I was looking up some stats from George

[00:49:52] Barna he’s a statistician he’s he does a whole all kinds of studies surveys these sorts of things on a variety of subjects

[00:49:59] he’s a Christian statistician and what’s happening right now in our culture is that moms are battling between the pool

[00:50:07] to work and to or be at home and that’s a struggle as an ongoing struggle this

[00:50:14] is what he says moms rank family is their number one priority and report that it’s also their top time commitment

[00:50:20] seven out of ten say family takes the lion’s share of their time and no other commitment comes close the nearest

[00:50:26] competitor for time is career with just over two and ten moms saying they spend most of their hours each week at work

[00:50:32] here’s the biggest disparity between priorities and obligations mom’s rank career last on their list of priorities

[00:50:39] after family personal development church and friendships but second on their list of time commitments so the significance

[00:50:46] of course here is that um it seems like from this study that moms want to be

[00:50:51] home with their families they rank that very very high and yet even though work

[00:50:58] is ranked last a lot of them have work as second in reality in their lives so

[00:51:04] what you’re looking at is this disparity where work is is less important to them

[00:51:09] but they’re they’re having to do that because they don’t know how else to get around it and I guess what I would like

[00:51:15] to encourage you moms out there is that’s a that’s very difficult and you and you fathers too right it’s

[00:51:22] very difficult to try to make ends meet especially if you’re living in somewhere where homes are expensive and and or

[00:51:28] rent is expensive and so but I really encourage you to reach out to your

[00:51:34] friends at church and other places just try to say how did you make this work how are you able to to do that because

[00:51:41] I’d like to be able to stay home I’ve talked with different teachers at my work who want to stay home with their

[00:51:47] kids and they just really struggle to be able to do that they’re battling back and forth but they want to be home but

[00:51:52] they just can’t figure out a way to make that happen and I would just say you know the old

[00:51:58] adage a – a Dacian right I don’t know what that is right the where there’s a will there’s a way and so try to figure

[00:52:06] out a way to make that happen here’s another stat from George Barna he says according to another Barna study

[00:52:13] women who are raising children are among the most faith minded and spiritually active segments of the American

[00:52:18] population the study explored faith fellated activities commitments and perspectives relying upon nationally

[00:52:24] representative interviews among more than 10,000 adults in nearly 2000 women who are currently parenting children

[00:52:29] under the age of 18 the study shows that more than three-quarters of moms identify family to be their highest

[00:52:35] priority at the same time a majority of mothers strongly agree that their faith is very important in their life in

[00:52:40] contrast fathers also tend to list family as their top priority in life yet they are much less likely to equally

[00:52:46] attribute importance to faith and this is an interesting thing I think women tend to be more relational than men and

[00:52:53] really the studies show that this is the case when men and women get old that the study I was reading said that women have

[00:53:00] on average 5 close friends men have on our two old men have on average 0 and so

[00:53:06] what happens is men tend to be more intellectual and less relational women tend to be more relational and generally

[00:53:13] speaking they’re less focused on facts and and you know these sorts of things

[00:53:18] and so the difficulty with a guy a lot of times is that he’s looking for facts

[00:53:24] to go with his faith and a woman oftentimes is looking for relationships

[00:53:29] to go with her and and so my challenge to you guys out

[00:53:34] there again it’s kind of a self-promotion of what I do but I teach apologetics I teach why our faith is

[00:53:43] rational logical intellectual and so check check out my curriculum online you

[00:53:48] can check out some of my radio shows I interview all kinds of experts on science and the Bible and a plenty of

[00:53:55] scientists out there who say hey look it science and the Bible go perfectly well together and as you begin to explore

[00:54:02] Christianity and the facts behind Christianity you go WOW hey the truth of the Bible matches right up perfectly

[00:54:08] with my faith and hopefully then what happens is your faith is not secondary

[00:54:15] anymore it becomes an important aspect of your life rather than something

[00:54:21] that’s just on the back burner because God is real and there’s no denying that

[00:54:26] there’s no way to get around that if you’re a local to San Diego we’re having

[00:54:32] a debate coming up on September 26th it’s between Dan Barker who is the president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and dr. Andy McIntosh who was

[00:54:39] an expert in thermodynamics and he’s from Leeds in the United Kingdom and

[00:54:45] he’s a scientist so we’re gonna have this dialogue between science and faith does a theist make sense of reality does

[00:54:53] agnosticism make sense of reality God is intimately involved in our lives and there’s plenty of evidence to show that

[00:54:58] that’s the case so my encouragement to you if you’re a guy out there who says hey I need facts not faith there are

[00:55:05] plenty of facts to support the truth of Christianity you don’t have to rely on some sort of blind faith or just kind of

[00:55:12] guessing or hoping and that Christianity is true there are numerous evidences for

[00:55:18] the truth of Christianity I’ll give you one of them for one of my favorites evidences for the truth of God is that a

[00:55:25] single cell okay that your your smallest form of life a single cell is made up of

[00:55:31] approximately 250 proteins and those proteins are all arranged perfectly in

[00:55:37] order to make a single cell a single protein the proteins that make up life

[00:55:42] are made up of 20 different amino acids and so those amino acids have to be put together in order to just bright in

[00:55:49] order to make a protein and then those proteins which aren’t a light alive have to be put together just right in order to make a single cell the stats on this

[00:55:57] that you can look this up Doug axe has done all the numbers on this but the

[00:56:02] chances of a single cell actually a single protein coming into existence by

[00:56:08] itself with no purpose or design and no creator is one in 10 to the 160 for one

[00:56:15] chance out of 10 to the 164 now consider that number that number is gigantic it’s

[00:56:20] huge it actually surpasses the amount of

[00:56:26] molecules in the known universe or the amount of seconds that evolutionists say

[00:56:31] has passed since the Big Bang has existed or Big Bang happened supposedly

[00:56:37] so this is not we are not a product of chance a single cell is not a product of

[00:56:42] chance we’re ten trillion 10 billion cells all put together perfectly we are

[00:56:48] not a product of chance we are product of design and very careful design and the god who made us is obviously

[00:56:54] extremely intelligent and because of the fact that we each have personality we

[00:56:59] also know he’s personable so I challenge you take a look at my classes online joined I educate for life org take a

[00:57:07] look at them go through them the first ten classes was all about the science issues we look at thermodynamics

[00:57:13] cosmology what’s called the anthropic principle we look at genetics and we

[00:57:18] look at all these tough questions and we go hey which is more probable that God exists or that he doesn’t exist and if

[00:57:25] you’re a mom out there I encourage you to get involved with moms mark usa.com

[00:57:31] please get involved with what they’re doing September 23rd and that’s kimberly fletcher homemakers of America org and

[00:57:39] together we can make a difference in our culture and really the family needs to
