[00:00:33] is there so much pain and suffering in the world and my guest today is Ray Comfort with living waters if you

[00:00:39] haven’t heard his name it really is his name Ray Comfort I get a lot of my students go really his last name is

[00:00:45] Comfort and it’s appropriate in a sense ray is the founder and president and CEO

[00:00:51] of Living Waters publications he’s originally from New Zealand thus the accent which are going to hear in a

[00:00:56] moment and he’s written tons of books over 70 books now I believe he’s also

[00:01:02] the co-host with Kirk Cameron if you’re familiar with I believe eighties television shows Kirk Cameron was in

[00:01:09] growing pains and he’s a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and produced

[00:01:14] many movies on his own but together Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron produced the way of the master airs in 123 countries

[00:01:21] around the world and he and his wife Sue live in Southern California where they have three grown children so ray thanks

[00:01:28] for being on the program today it’s actually three groaning children for

[00:01:36] that very kind introduction thank you absolutely absolutely well you know the

[00:01:41] the question that people ask all the time is why is there so much pain and suffering in the world and you recently one of the movies you produced is called

[00:01:49] exit one of the most recent movies and it’s the subtitle is the appeal of

[00:01:54] suicide and I think you know somebody would look at that title and go what what does that mean so how did you come

[00:02:01] up with the subtitle the appeal of suicide it’s actually taken from the rock musician well known rock musician

[00:02:09] who is in his 60s he just lost two of his band members the boss is his nickname and he left two

[00:02:16] of his band members and went for a walk on the beach and he just wanted to die and he spoke of suicidal thoughts being

[00:02:24] so strong he used the phrase in the Time magazine article the appeal of suicide

[00:02:32] because they think it gets them out of a difficult situation just makes things worse if you die in your sins yeah from

[00:02:39] the frying pan to the fire so I’d never advocated suicide for anyone I the film

[00:02:44] wants to die die at the foot of the cross amen give your life to Christ and in all the

[00:02:50] the rebellion against God give up surrender and let God take the controls now that everything’s rosy when you

[00:02:56] become a Christian you get hated and you get problems and trials and tribulations but I love why someone said many years

[00:03:02] ago Christianity doesn’t offer a smooth fight/flight but it does offer a safe

[00:03:07] landing and that’s what it’s all about that as a Christian you know you have everlasting life death can seize upon

[00:03:14] you’ve got purpose in existence we’re living in a generation that doesn’t know Wyatt is alive doesn’t know where it

[00:03:20] came from they think they came from explosion and space and they’re made of

[00:03:25] dust they are made of dust according to the Bible they just don’t believe that and they don’t know what’s going to happen after death but as Christians we

[00:03:31] know the point of the man once to die and after this the judgment so we’ve got a mission to reach out to this lost

[00:03:38] generation that is feeling the appeal of suicide 40,000 a year in our country and

[00:03:43] that’s a that’s a tragedy beyond words that breaks my heart yeah I was reading the news just recently in Ohio they had I believe six

[00:03:52] suicides in six months in one school district when you when you were thinking

[00:03:57] about whether to make this movie or not was it because of the stats that are showing a rise in suicide no it was

[00:04:04] because of something I saw on television as a well-known country-western musician

[00:04:11] who’s getting on an age and she was having trouble with chronic depression and the doctors have given her drugs she

[00:04:18] was being interviewed they gave a drug that made his face swell up horrific ly slurred her speech made her shaky and a

[00:04:26] and my heart went out to I thought what is going on and so I looked up did some

[00:04:33] search on the internet and found out that one of the side effects for drugs that people give for depression are

[00:04:39] suicidal thoughts I thought this is a crazy world so I began studying what was

[00:04:44] going on and I took a camera on my iphone to a local school and I was just going to talk to kids about suicide and

[00:04:52] I found three or four one after the other that were considering suicide so suddenly I had enough material to pour

[00:04:59] together a movie and we know the answer to suicide as Christianity because when

[00:05:06] you’re a Christian you fear God and he’s in charge of your life and you don’t say when it ends he does and so that’s very

[00:05:13] important that we give him the controls yes I’ll tell you why yeah because

[00:05:18] because there’s a man that attempted suicide in the Bible in the book of Acts he was going to kill himself because the

[00:05:24] situation was horrific it was the Philippian jailer and he was going to kill himself because he thought all the

[00:05:29] prisoners have left and when your roman jailer and the prisoners are gone you suffer the punishment they were going to

[00:05:36] suffer so if you’re looking after a murder it was going to be crucified the next morning and he gets out of your

[00:05:41] prison you suffered his punishment so you made sure that it didn’t let him get out well the Philippian jailer all his

[00:05:47] prisoners he thought were gone so the morning that has not been an exciting morning for him so he got his sword and

[00:05:53] he was going to kill himself and Paul called out it’s okay we’re all here and so if you’re thinking of killing

[00:05:59] yourself don’t discount the miracle power of God God had kept the prisoners there they could have left their pack of murderers and rapists and thieves and

[00:06:05] the doors are open they could have gone but God kept them there because he had his purposes so God changes everything

[00:06:13] it’s the principle of Scripture read see no way out why did Moses just kill himself but no God opens the Red Sea

[00:06:19] Daniel Lyons Dan no way out is going to be eaten by lions no no don’t discount

[00:06:24] God he didn’t kill himself God did a miracle and so when you take your life in your own hands you get rid of the

[00:06:30] miracle power of God to deliver you you discount that and that’s very unwise

[00:06:36] because God’s in the miracle business he saved my life not that I was idle that 46 years ago he transformed me

[00:06:43] in a moment of time and took me out of darkness into light and you can do the same with purposeless meaningless people

[00:06:50] who are suffering from the fear of death and you can transform them in a moment of time absolutely praise God for that yeah and

[00:07:25] impact I actually Ray at one of our chapels I showed the movie exit the

[00:07:30] appeal of suicide and one of the students afterwards came up and said that they had been considering

[00:07:36] contemplating suicide and changed their mind because of that we were able to counsel them and reach out to them and

[00:07:42] encourage them so what kind of feedback have you gotten as people have been watching this movie what kind of reactions are you getting well it hasn’t

[00:07:50] taken off like our other movies our YouTube channel has got 52 million views I think including the font languages 52

[00:07:58] million views and were blown away by that yeah exit was a movie I did not enjoy

[00:08:03] making I cried and cried when I was editing I just couldn’t believe my eyes see an elderly man jump off the bridge

[00:08:10] at San Francisco and I look at his body language and just see him end his life and think boy did he have a wife did he

[00:08:17] have children why didn’t someone reach out to and why did you do that until more than a movie I enjoyed making and

[00:08:22] it’s not a movie that people enjoy sharing hey here’s a movie on suicide

[00:08:28] another yeah you want to yeah and so it’s a it’s a message that message that

[00:08:34] needs to get out there but I think it’s 60 or 70 thousand views it may be 80 I can’t remember but we know that the

[00:08:43] gospel doesn’t return void and we made it because we don’t want people just to change their mind about suicide what we

[00:08:50] want to change their mind about garden we want to see people saved from the very real hell so that’s always their

[00:08:55] agenda with our movies with only one coming out soon called banana man oh yeah I wanted to ask you

[00:13:50] just making the Bible very very easy to understand and the gospel very clear and

[00:13:55] so it’s a great resource but Ray you you early in your life as you were sharing

[00:14:02] the gospel explain to us but bananaman the book that’s called the book just came out and you’re coming out with a

[00:14:08] movie now and what where did that all start where did you get the name bananaman well it started about 30 years

[00:14:15] ago I began when I was witnessing to or preaching up in here to unsay people

[00:14:21] particularly atheists I said I got a theory of where the coca-cola can may have come from big explosion in space

[00:14:27] big rock this bubbly brown liquid and tin aluminum clipped up beside formed

[00:14:33] itself into a 10 you know alleged and then a tap and then red paint sauce kind myself in the woods coca-cola 12 fluid

[00:14:39] ounces it makes perfect say yes and he will say what are you doing that’s crazy doesn’t make sense as I said of course

[00:14:45] doesn’t make sense you know if the coca-cola counters made there must be a maker and then I get out of banana and

[00:14:53] tongue-in-cheek talk about the design of the banana and it’s got a tab on the top it’s got perforations it’s just the

[00:15:00] right shape for the human hand just the right shape the human mouth curved toward the face to make the process easier it’s black to early color-coded

[00:15:07] yellow just right sorry black too late green too early yellow just right and it

[00:15:12] was just a lot of fun to meet Christians laughs and it showed the absurdity of of evolution and I did it the teaching for

[00:15:19] years across the states across the world and then when Kirk and I had the television show back in 2004 I think it

[00:15:26] was maybe five we’re at the human lake in California and we did an episode on

[00:15:31] evolution sorry on atheism and I did the banana analogy just what I did then but

[00:15:36] there was no audience I fell a bit flat but it was still funny and I’m you know

[00:15:41] any Christians going to watch it Christians you know yeah grain of salt yeah anyway uh three years later someone

[00:15:48] told me that thing you did on the bananas all over the Internet laughing what it talked about it’s crazy I could

[00:15:54] have be all over the internet and I found out that Richard Dawkins had seen it and done it on television done it the

[00:16:00] students that have gone viral in the internet and someone had taken the coca-cola can thrown that away and just

[00:16:06] had me seeing that banana is proof for God and Dawkins was mocking it and all

[00:16:11] the top scientists a lot of the top scientists were mocking it and calling you banana man and suddenly I became

[00:16:16] internationally known and this is I’m not exaggerating internationally known as the celebrity idiot poster boy for

[00:16:23] atheism atheists would yell out as I’m walking down the street banana man just

[00:16:29] unbelievable but that the cool thing and this is what the movie brings out is that everything I did would go viral

[00:16:36] again under hundreds of thousands of views because nobody took banana man seriously they had invite me on to their

[00:16:41] programs to talk about God and they were surprised I could string a whole sentence together and they let me stay

[00:16:47] for an hour and they get like half a million views and it was just amazing and atheists would

[00:16:54] show up at the ministry to debate me out there what do they want to debate bananaman for and I became friends with

[00:16:59] top atheists like Penn Jillette Lawrence Krauss Dawkins kept tweeting about me

[00:17:05] and a banana mandersohn but not a man that when we put out 180 he publicized

[00:17:10] that in a mocking way so that a lot of atheists watch the pro-life movie so it’s a wonderful story and then pin

[00:17:17] Gillette I don’t you know but he put out a video saying how much do you have to

[00:17:23] hate somebody yeah to believe in hell and not warn them yeah I used that video in my class

[00:17:28] actually and that yeah that’s crazy huh that’s very powerful and then he says a

[00:17:34] man gave me a Bible and he says he was a good good many raves about the system

[00:17:41] they gave him a Bible I mean ridiculous raving he’s a very very good man yeah keep saying that I know we

[00:17:49] discovered who that man was oh really who is it yes and we invited

[00:17:54] them to the ministry I interviewed him and we’ve got him in banana man and you won’t believe what he gave Penn Jillette

[00:18:00] when he spoke to him was just it’s just the hand of God and we think banana man

[00:18:06] that best moves people just finished the trailer that should come out a week or so and then we’ll make a date then we’re

[00:18:51] actually a disc jockey Oh radio announcer in Las Vegas and I wrote to

[00:18:56] Penn who I became friends were then he says yo your that is the man and so we had one than it is one what he gave them was

[00:19:39] we’re seeing there and everything you know when you made that you know how did you prepare to make this movie do you

[00:19:45] just go out and just start filming or I mean did you do a lot of research on this and you know what are some of the

[00:19:52] things that kind of caught you off guard as you are making this movie was there surprises there or was it were you

[00:19:58] pretty much well informed about suicide and what’s going on there well um most

[00:20:05] people don’t know why 350 million people are depressed the psychology hasn’t got

[00:20:13] any reason for it I know what causes it they got our answer to it depressed oh never mind riding high in April shot

[00:20:20] down in May you know just deal with it but life is super depressing you know

[00:20:27] I’m getting on then I’m in the late 60s there’s no such thing as the golden years they are older years take the G

[00:20:34] away and it’s what everything starts breaking down and it’s a battle to keep your health as you get older and I got

[00:20:41] news we lose the battle there’s no way around it there’s no way around we’re at

[00:20:46] it and and so that’s depressing when young people realize that their friends around them are dying nothing you can do

[00:20:53] about it so they think life becomes absolutely horrific we’re tormented by the fear of death and the Bible actually says that in the book

[00:21:00] of Hebrews chapter 2 but for as much as you and I are made of flesh and blood God became flesh and blood so he could

[00:21:06] pass through death and destroy him as where the power of death that is the devil and deliver those who through the

[00:21:11] fear of death were all their lifetime subject ekta bondage so that fear of death

[00:21:17] torments and haunt every unsaved person some face it some try and hide ever try

[00:21:25] and remedy it you know become a religious or whatever but the Bible says Jesus Christ has abolished death and

[00:21:31] brought life and immortality to light through the gospel and when you are born again the spirit of life the Holy Spirit

[00:21:37] enters you and you conquer death by trust in Jesus and I can’t explain to

[00:21:44] you the joy I have and living that reality of being free from the power of

[00:21:49] death and my heart’s desire is Jesus every means possible books tracts movies

[00:21:55] to take the message of everlasting life to a dying and held down the world so

[00:22:01] each of these movies is just a vehicle to same to say the same message with 180 if you’re seeing 180 I’ve seen all of

[00:22:07] them and I and that’s what I love about what you do is that it is that consistent message my guest is Ray

[00:22:13] Comfort and there’s something he said in the exit movie that for me really just was such a powerful message of hope that

[00:25:12] and he recently not too long ago came out with a movie called exit and the the

[00:25:18] movie deals with the the subtitle is the appeal of suicide and I just I read this off USA Today it says suicide is a

[00:25:25] growing public health crisis the Centers for Disease Control reported recently that suicide rates for teenage girls in

[00:25:30] the United States have hit a 40-year high the suicide rates doubled among girls and rose by more than 30 percent

[00:25:36] among teen boys and young men between 2007 and 2015 according to the CDC report today

[00:25:43] suicide is the number one killer of teenage girls worldwide and the second leading cause of death and teenagers in

[00:25:48] the US only accidents cause more deaths where that those stats just blew me away

[00:25:54] and Ray were you aware of those stats that the CDC is reporting yeah I came

[00:26:01] across them and you know stats kind of bounce off you if you can hear yeah

[00:26:08] there’s quite a 40,000 people killed you go well that’s terrible yeah and then

[00:26:13] they show you a little girl who’s being rescued and she’s just too much crushed to death well they bring it one body out

[00:26:20] and they all show the father holding that child suddenly it becomes real and these these statistics contender bounce office

[00:26:26] sometime and it was got to take them to heart we’ve got to be serious about the gospel we’ve and truck we’ve been

[00:26:33] entrusted with you know in 1990 in a company where it was Minnesota or

[00:26:38] somewhere three Northwest pilots were jailed because they flew their plane with passengers and that drunk the three

[00:26:45] pilots were drunk and the judge said you have betrayed the trust placed in you a

[00:26:51] three of them drunk and how much more should we be sober when we minister this

[00:26:59] gospel we’ve been entrusted with the gospel and we can’t water it down we

[00:27:05] can’t fail to talk about sin or righteousness and judgment we’ve got to speak the truth and love and every

[00:27:10] person needs to stand up and go to this world and not minister to the symptoms you know so easy to get caught up in the

[00:27:16] social gospel but every problem America has is just a problem and the root cause

[00:27:23] of all these things is sin yeah it’s not skin with that was with racism it’s not kids skin at sin and so

[00:27:31] we need we need to say what sin is open up the commandments and then preach the cross and three people transformed and

[00:27:38] saved from the pen of death can you can you just explain in a nutshell your method of sharing the gospel because you

[00:27:45] know I think when I stumbled upon you first quite a while ago and I saw how

[00:27:51] simplistic it was and yet it made sense I mean I literally when I when I’m at the beach and I share the gospel you

[00:27:57] know starting with a 10 commandments and all it is amazing to me because I actually have my students memorize the

[00:28:04] way you share the gospel and they have to learn to share the gospel this way because I always ask them does what I

[00:28:10] just said makes sense and I mean almost a hundred percent of the time the people

[00:28:15] that I share with go yes that makes total sense and can you just share this

[00:28:21] with our listeners so that they can idea of of kind of the bad way to share the

[00:28:26] gospel versus the biblical way of sharing the gospel yes certainly and people can hear the full teaching on

[00:28:33] livingwaters.com a message called house best-kept secret yeah that’s the one that cameron heard

[00:28:38] back in 2001 and called the ministry and one of the combined ministries because

[00:28:44] it’s so effective there’s life but it really is just a simple simple principle is that you don’t give someone a cure if

[00:28:50] they’re not convinced they have the disease if you come to see me or I came up to see you and say excuse me

[00:28:57] okay then I’ve got a cure for you and so I’ll just go away I just wanted to do

[00:29:02] what are you trying to do get out of my face yeah oh you’re trying to sell this off you know my cure wouldn’t wouldn’t make any sense to you I say hey Kevin I

[00:29:09] can see you’ve got a terrible terminal diseases ten clear symptoms on your flesh you’re going to die in two weeks

[00:29:15] and you said what should I do so I got a Qi Dimity roll makes sense you’ll appreciate it and appropriated

[00:29:21] because you’ve seen your disease before you see the cure and what we’ve done it’s held up a cure give you a heart to

[00:29:27] Jesus Jesus died on the cross if you’re lacking you’ve got marriage problems drug problems alcohol from give you a

[00:29:33] heart of Jesus he’s the cure no no you got to do what Jesus did and open up the Ten Commandments and show what the

[00:29:39] disease is 19 verse 17 a young man came to Jesus and said what can I do to inherit eternal life and Jesus didn’t

[00:29:46] say we’ll just give you heart to me he didn’t talk about the love of God or anything like that he says you know the

[00:29:51] commandments and he gave him five commandments why did he do that well Paul in the book of Romans is by the law

[00:29:58] that’s the Ten Commandments the moral law is the knowledge of sin if it I had

[00:30:03] not known sin but by the law by the law sin became exceedingly sinful Galatians 3:24 the law is our schoolmaster to

[00:30:11] bring us to Christ and so that’s what we should do and Paul did it Romans chapter 2 you who say you shall not steal do you

[00:30:18] steal you say shall commit adultery do you commit adultery what’s he doing is opening up the law to show what sinners

[00:30:25] sinners to see the need of a savior showing what the diseases so they’ll appreciate appropriate cure and so it’s

[00:30:32] very very simple and so when I meet a complete stranger I believe in relationship evangelism by the way when

[00:30:38] I meet a stranger I build a relationship with them and that relationship can last maybe two three minutes before I share

[00:30:44] the gospel with them because he could die tonight so there’s a sense of urgency so I just say hey what’s your

[00:30:49] name is this free so Fred do you think there’s an afterlife now I haven’t mentioned God

[00:30:54] Jesus the Bible Heaven Hell Judgment Day the things that make him and me feel a little uncomfortable

[00:31:00] I just asked his opinion do you think there’s an afterlife and that’s been huge for me for the last 15 20 years

[00:31:05] I’ve asked that question of strangers and let them talk and then found out that they’re afraid of dying and they

[00:31:12] don’t know what happens after you’re dying and I said where you going to heaven when you die you a good person that’s a young a good person and that’s

[00:31:17] when you’re taken through the commandment if you lied if you stolen if you use God’s name in vain jesus said if

[00:31:23] you look with lust you commit adultery in your heart a beautiful look with lust than they say I’ve done those and I’m

[00:31:29] not judging you but you’ve just told me you’re a lying thieving blasphemous daughter heart you have to face God on

[00:31:34] Judgment Day if he judges you by those commandments to be innocent or guilty heaven or hell and most people say now

[00:31:41] I’d be guilty I’m hidden for hell and that’s when the cross begins to make sense nice died for us while we yet sinners he

[00:31:48] paid the fine for the law that we broke and so God can forgive our sins dismiss our case tomb you doubt this and it’s

[00:31:55] and let us live forever because of the death and resurrection of the Son of God and what we have to do is repent and

[00:32:00] Trust in Christ like a trust a parachute and so it’s as simple as that and you practice on your dog practice in

[00:32:06] the showers in the mirror and till it till it becomes natural to you and have

[00:32:12] compassion on your tongue and people will say boy that makes sense thank you for sharing with me yeah and that’s

[00:32:17] another thing that you know I always get feedback on as people say man that seems a little harsh um how do you respond to

[00:32:23] somebody who says that seems a little harsh you know as far as you know because because you’re you’re saying hey how

[00:32:29] many lies have you you’ve told in your whole life and they you know people say doesn’t that seem kind of condemning how

[00:32:35] do you respond to that yeah I’d say I’m usually when Christians say that to me I said where is this

[00:32:40] person going if they died in this sense and they say not to a not very nice

[00:32:46] place I said what’s it called they sell hell well are you gonna tell them or not and it’s gonna be harsh if

[00:32:53] you tell them yeah really a has to say someone’s gonna hell yeah so when you use the commandments you let them come

[00:32:58] to their own judgment you don’t judge them you don’t condemn them you say how many lies you could tell take

[00:33:04] through the commandments so you’re going to be innocent or guilty just asking questions not pointing fingers do you think you’ve got to heaven or hell and

[00:33:09] they say how they make the judgment they show that they’re condemned and the Bible says they’re already condemned and

[00:33:15] our message is one of non condemnation they can have their sins forgiven they

[00:33:21] can be exonerated by the gospel but so I usually when people are critical especially when I’m open-air preaching I

[00:33:27] say hey I’ll tell you what you come up on a soapbox and let me watch you and see how you do it I appreciate that

[00:33:32] thank you and I will go running away into the crowd yeah because they haven’t got the courage of their convictions they haven’t even got love enough to

[00:33:38] warn people they’re hating for help their motivation is love not not hate and love isn’t passive that’s fantastic

[00:33:47] and I couldn’t agree more I think it’s such a blessing and you know if you’re listening today and you’re afraid of

[00:33:53] sharing the gospel with your friends or neighbors your relatives you know what pray for pray to God to give you the courage and the passion and the

[00:34:00] compassion to to go out of your way to do that because sometimes it is awkward but you know what when it all comes down

[00:34:06] I’ve seen that God is faithful through my frail efforts my timid efforts God is

[00:34:12] faithful to move despite my stumbling word so there’s no time like the present

[00:34:19] to share with those you love the truth of Jesus Christ and that he loves them and that that hell is real so my guest

[00:37:25] God is real and it’s just a great way people it kind of captures people’s interest and they’re willing to take

[00:37:31] those cards and you can share the gospel so ray one of the things you said in the exit interview the exit movie you made

[00:37:38] that I I’ve used it now several times quite a few times actually and you said

[00:37:44] if somebody gave you if somebody promised to give you $100,000 tomorrow how would that affect your your day

[00:37:53] today can you can you expand on that and where did you come up with that that’s

[00:37:58] such a great way to to think about what happens when we understand the goodness

[00:38:04] of Jesus Christ and how it it’s not just good news for today for for tomorrow or

[00:38:10] for heaven it’s good news for today you know one analogy I use that I’ve used for many years that’s pretty similar

[00:38:16] what you’re saying is would you sell one of your eyes from a million dollars and I say look we get we’ve got surgeons you

[00:38:23] can take it out painlessly and give you giving a new one that’ll look as good as the old one it just won’t look as good

[00:38:29] as the old one you want better see you’ll be blind yeah but even a million dollars for having a year I taken out painlessly and you get a full side would

[00:38:36] you give up an eye for a million dollars some people say yes okay we want to matching Pierre will give you a hundred

[00:38:42] million for both your eyes yeah they say no it’s a two hundred million five hundred million and they say no no no

[00:38:48] what are you gonna do with two million dollars see the world no you’re not going to see a thing and so we say look

[00:38:54] see how precious your eyes are to your eyes and merely the windows of your soul your soul that really looks out these

[00:39:02] little windows we call eye and then without Christ years how much more is the life that looks out of those

[00:39:07] windows worth Jesus said watching a profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses a soul so it makes people

[00:39:15] think about the the preciousness of life you know sometimes when people have a

[00:39:21] near car accident a near-death experience so they call it and they say

[00:39:26] boy it’s insured me the fragility of life and I say here but it’s just a postponement you’re going to die one day

[00:39:32] it’s just postponing death and I don’t want life to be fragile I want to be on

[00:39:38] I want to be on a rock foundation and that’s what happens when you come to Christ if your foundation is not a rock

[00:39:44] and so that you’re not fragile in that sense you you’re secure for eternity a

[00:39:50] lot of people are held back through from sharing the gospel because of fear now

[00:39:55] saying that I regularly use and if this don’t pray for less fear pray for more

[00:40:02] love because that’s the problem if you’re sitting with some friends at a

[00:40:09] friend’s house he’s got a swimming pool that’s not heated you may have experience that I’ve had many times you

[00:40:15] stand by the edge of the pool and you can’t jump in because it’s cold you know it’s not heated it’s going to get your flesh your friends that’s okay just jump

[00:40:21] in and you go well I won I on you know you’re nervous and you keep hesitating but let’s just seems an area but just

[00:40:28] change it up a little bit your four-year-old has fallen into that pool and he’s drowning you’re going to think

[00:40:34] about your flesh you’re going to hesitate oh no you’ll just jump in because you

[00:40:39] love that child and that’s what evangelism is cold waters and if you

[00:40:45] love the loss you won’t care about your flesh you would have to be coaxed in you’ll just dive into those freezing

[00:40:51] waters evangelism because you care about people you don’t want anyone go to hell Charles Spurgeon said have you no wish

[00:40:57] for others to be saved then you’re not saved yourself be sure of that Christians that don’t share their faith

[00:41:03] are like someone who sits by a pool and watches the kid drown heart of stone and morally responsible and so we have a we

[00:41:11] have a great responsibility as Christians to share the gospel to learn how to do if we don’t know what the

[00:41:17] say learn what to say we’ve got free resources on a website totally free yeah

[00:41:36] still you know when you started sharing the gospel and you know I’ve seen the pictures of you or watched a lot of the

[00:41:42] videos of you street preaching and so forth and I’m pretty comfortable sharing the gospel with a person 101 at the at

[00:41:48] the beach or whatever I’m still nervous to stand up on a box and Street preach but I want to I want to get into that

[00:41:56] but what what so or do you do you face nervousness now currently when you go

[00:42:02] and you do that or do you or you past that I’m sort of past it but I’m not

[00:42:08] I’m never self-confident but I discovered something about thirty years ago but diffused the fear when it comes

[00:42:13] to open your preaching and this is it and this will make it so easy for you all you have to do is go there and do it

[00:42:21] um get twenty trivia questions and write them out get twenty-one dollar bills

[00:42:27] stand up on a box and say okay folks we’ve got some money for trivia answer

[00:42:33] the question I’ll give you money what’s the capital of France it rhymes with eros and begins with tea does anyone

[00:42:40] know and someone will call that Paris say he gets the dollar give them a hand and then you say okay what’s the capital

[00:42:47] of United States someone says Washington DC hey you’re educated you are and then you say so

[00:42:53] what’s your name is Fred hey that’s right here’s your dollar Fred you got that right and you just start doing that

[00:42:59] people pack around and say okay anyone here think they’re a good person I’ve got five dollars for you if you pass the

[00:43:04] good test if you don’t pass it I’ll give you five dollars anyway for being a good spill sports so who wants to give this a

[00:43:10] try get up on the box there they get up on the box and you say okay you think you’re a good person got $5 you’re not you’re going to get it

[00:43:16] anyway so just be honest with me here we go how many lies you told it was stolen something and because I’m going

[00:43:22] the air and cheering trivia and giving away money which is a fun thing to do and it creates goodwill I’m not nervous

[00:43:28] for years like 15 years before I did this I would have to get up on a box and start cold turkey and give some sort of

[00:43:35] anecdote that will get people’s attention I was it was hard work yeah but this is easy anyone can ask

[00:43:41] trivia and it’s a lot of fun you feel like you’re just a a quiz show host asking questions and then by the time

[00:43:48] you get to the gospel your friends are the person you know his name is smiling with them and taking them through the test and sharing the gospel and then

[00:43:54] give you in five dollars and saying thanks for in a good sport you know why I’m giving this five dollars to you because I like you and that’s how God

[00:44:01] gives everlasting life we don’t earn it but is the lover of a soul so it’s a wonderful and easy way to share the

[00:44:07] gospel even at universities so if somebody wants to learn more about this if they want to learn more about what you’re talking about right here about

[00:44:13] about how to be an evangelist about how to be more comfortable sharing with their friends or even street preaching and you know standing up on a box and

[00:44:20] sharing the gospel wherever they’re at the mall or wherever it the way of the master is that is that what they would

[00:44:26] get involved with just living what is where the master is just a sub-sub portion of living waters into the big

[00:44:33] momma and the way of the master is just one of their arms but there’s a lot of free articles and free audio tapes of

[00:44:40] say 51 audio tapes or more than that you can audio yeah that you can listen to and so livingwaters.com is that place to

[00:45:32] and the laborers are still few you can get a church of thousands and the Evangelist the team has got six you know

[00:45:38] yep yeah and you think this is this is crazy when you look at the book of Acts the reason they existed was to take the

[00:45:43] message of everlasting life and so a lot of our preachers and pastors should have been politicians or plumbers or milkman or anything but sons

[00:45:52] of thunder in the pulpit because they’re not doing what they should so we need to pray for that Laden Church amen to that okay well thank you so much ray for

[00:48:45] welcome back to educate for life I’m your host Kevin Conover my website is educate for life dot o-r-g and I have an

[00:48:53] event coming up it’s still a ways away but I think it’s worth you knowing about it now it’s on May 15th it’s a Tuesday

[00:48:59] evening we’re gonna be having Danny Ray out if you don’t know who Danny Ray is he was on my radio program a while back

[00:49:07] and he’s an illusionist he’s incredible he’s performed in all 50 states thousands of performances he is at the

[00:49:14] Magic Castle but what’s special about Danny is that he loves the Lord and he shares the gospel through these

[00:49:19] illusions and you know his emphasis is on that is that Jesus Christ is no illusion he can change your life you

[00:49:25] know the the stats right now among young people are very difficult as far as

[00:49:30] suicide is concerned you heard the stats earlier suicide is the leading cause of death among young

[00:49:35] people now and accidents I’m sorry accidents is the only thing that that causes more deaths suicide is

[00:49:42] second and so the struggle here is what is going on and I would like to argue

[00:49:48] that what’s happening is is that the the truth of God and the truth of creation and the truth of the Bible and the truth

[00:49:54] of Jesus Christ is no longer taught in our schools a lot of people don’t know this but early in our school schools God

[00:50:03] and the Bible were taught as a regular part and when you believe in God he gives you hope right Ray Comfort uses

[00:50:11] this analogy and what he says is look at if I told you I was going to give you $100,000 tomorrow and how would that

[00:50:19] change your day today well you would be excited to know that tomorrow you’re

[00:50:24] getting a hundred thousand dollars so even though you don’t have the hundred thousand dollars in your hand you’re

[00:50:30] excited because you’re getting the hundred thousand dollars it’s the hope that it gives you for the future and

[00:50:36] this is what Jesus Christ does for us right and again in John 10:10 he says I

[00:50:41] have come that they might have life to the fool both now and in the next in the one to come and and the point is is this

[00:50:48] is that Jesus Christ isn’t just about heaven it changes your perspective on life now it gives you hope and so when

[00:50:55] you’re depressed or you’re going through a hard time you have God to go to you can pray to God you can seek God you can look at the promises

[00:51:02] made in Scripture that people went through difficult times but there was a light at the end of the tunnel and so

[00:51:08] sometimes we can’t see that light at the end of the tunnel and so what do we do we’re counting on the stories that are

[00:51:13] in the Word of God and the testimonies of other people who made it through those dark times and came out on the

[00:51:19] other side and saw God’s faithfulness and we’re also hearing about the truth of heaven and that this life isn’t all

[00:51:25] there is that we have heaven to look forward to you know I teach world religions and apologetics for a living

[00:51:32] that’s what I do in a Christian high school and one of the religions I cover is Buddhism and I’ve always thought it

[00:51:38] was so interesting that Buddhism teaches that reincarnation is a curse so they

[00:51:43] teach that you reincarnate now of course the Bible says in Hebrews that it’s destined for a man to die once and then

[00:51:49] the judgment so the Bible doesn’t teach reincarnation but Buddhism teaches reincarnation and it’s interesting that

[00:51:55] Buddhism teaches that the reason people suffer is they desire things that are impermanent or things that are always

[00:52:02] changing so you suffer when you have a new phone and you drop it and it cracks

[00:52:08] and you suffer because you desired that phone which isn’t gonna last anyway or you suffer because you have relationships that you’re hoping or last

[00:52:15] and they don’t last so what what Buddhism teaches you to do is to desire nothing and that way when you lose these

[00:52:21] things that change you won’t suffer because you never desired them in the first place now I personally think

[00:52:27] that’s a miserable way to live if I can just set my expectations extremely low then I’ll never be disappointed by life

[00:52:34] what a horrible solution but it’s worse than that Buddhism teaches that if if

[00:52:40] reincarnation is accursed because every time you are reincarnated you have to live life again and their philosophy

[00:52:46] they haven’t they call it the Four Noble Truths the first one is is that life is suffering so essentially they’ve said

[00:52:52] all of life is suffering and the only way to stop suffering is to stop living but they say the problem is is that you

[00:52:59] keep getting reincarnated so you have to keep living and therefore you’re in this miserable state of living a life full of

[00:53:05] suffering over and over and over again and so they say the final solution to all of that suffering is an

[00:53:13] vana which technically the technical definition of nirvana in what’s called the Theravada tradition of Buddhism is

[00:53:19] to cease existing literally means to be blown out like a candle and why am I

[00:53:24] talking about this well with Ray Comfort we are talking about the issue of suicide and what is suicide suicide is

[00:53:30] to literally stop existing to stop the pain it’s this idea that the solution to

[00:53:36] suffering is to no longer exist therefore I will no longer experience

[00:53:41] pain and and it’s interesting to me that our religion Buddhism would would provide this as the solution to

[00:53:48] suffering but what does the Bible say the Bible says and by the way Buddhism is atheistic it doesn’t believe in God

[00:53:54] and so you would see that that’s the only hope it can offer is a stopping of existing a stopping of suffering and so

[00:54:01] so what is it what does the Bible offer the Bible offers says delight yourself

[00:54:07] in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart Jesus Christ said he who he who drinks from the water I

[00:54:14] offer him will never thirst again right he will never die and and it will it

[00:54:20] will be a well that springs up to a spring of eternal life and in revelry Revelation God says he promises that

[00:54:27] there will be no more tears no more crying no more pain no more mourning that will be gone it says the old things

[00:54:33] will have passed away the new has come and so if you’re out there today and you know somebody that’s struggling with

[00:54:39] depression or suicide or you yourself are struggling with depression and suicide there’s it’s often a very dark

[00:54:46] place and I know I know people who struggle with depression and suicide personally and and I myself have been in

[00:54:52] very very depressing situations many of us go through that in life but the reality is is that Jesus Christ offers

[00:55:00] the hope and if we want to see a generation that that decreases in suicide decreases in their depression

[00:55:07] then we need to offer them the hope of Jesus Christ and so you if you are an influential person who has the ability

[00:55:13] to influence public policy as it pertains to sharing the gospel for example in the public schools right 90%

[00:55:21] of kids are not allowed to hear the gospel in the public schools because they

[00:55:26] Oh to public schools only 10% of kids go to private schools and so what’s happening is these kids are being taught by default they’re being taught

[00:55:33] agnosticism or moral relativism and that is that there is no truth we have no way

[00:55:38] of knowing whether God exists or not there is not necessarily any hope in Jesus Christ and so what why are we

[00:55:44] surprised when we see an increase in the rates of suicide the CDC said that there

[00:55:49] has been a huge increase in the rate of suicide in the past 40 years

[00:55:56] it says here suicide rates for teenage girls in the United States have hit a 40-year high and what’s interesting

[00:56:02] about that 40-year high this article was from USA Today it was published February

[00:56:08] 7th 2018 that’s literally today and so what’s interesting is that 40 years ago

[00:56:16] what was going on 40 years ago well that’s the 1970s in 1962 they took a

[00:56:22] prayer out of schools in 1963 they took the Bible out of schools in 1968 they mandated the teaching of evolution

[00:56:29] essentially mandated it and then the repercussions began to be felt right in

[00:56:35] 1970 we legalized no-fault divorce in 1973 abortion was legalized in all 50

[00:56:40] states and we wonder why we have these increases in violence school shootings teen suicide well it’s because we’ve

[00:56:48] taken out the hope of eternal life the hope for this life and the life to come and so if you are somebody who has the

[00:56:54] power to influence public policy and so forth I encourage you take the time to get educated to learn the truth about

[00:57:01] the Constitution and our freedom of religion and that freedom of religion doesn’t stop at the school doors we need

[00:57:07] to be able to offer these kids that that hope of Jesus Christ thanks for being here with me today I hope the show was a blessing to you have a fantastic
