How to Defend Keeping Moses in Textbooks
In this episode of The Educate for Life Podcast, Kevin Conover tackles a hot-button topic in Christian education: why it’s historically accurate and spiritually important to keep Moses in our social studies and history textbooks. If you’re navigating secular curriculum, trying to build a strong biblical worldview at home, or wondering how Christian apologetics and creation science connect to civic life, this conversation will help you think clearly and respond with confidence.
Why Moses Still Belongs in Modern Classrooms
In “How to Defend Keeping Moses in Textbooks,” host Kevin Conover walks through the Texas textbook controversy, where state leaders were challenged for including Moses as one of the key influencers on American law and government. Kevin explains why this isn’t about “sneaking religion” into the classroom, but about accurately recognizing the biblical roots of our legal system and the Judeo-Christian ideas that shaped Western liberty.
As a Bible teacher, Christian apologist, and homeschool-friendly educator, Kevin connects this debate directly to the questions Christian parents and students face: Is America really founded on Christian principles? Is it fair to talk about Moses and the Ten Commandments in public education? How do we answer people who say “we’re not a Christian nation” anymore? He draws from history, Supreme Court precedent, and Scripture to show how a biblical worldview speaks into law, politics, and citizenship.
Throughout the episode, Kevin helps listeners see why defending Moses in textbooks isn’t just a “culture war issue,” but a discipleship issue. When we erase the Bible’s influence on history, we weaken our children’s confidence in both faith and reason, and we miss powerful opportunities to talk about Christian apologetics, Christian parenting, morality, and God’s design for nations.
Key Takeaways
- Why Moses and the Ten Commandments are historically connected to American law, the Supreme Court, and our founding documents.
- How to answer the claim that “America was never a Christian nation” using history, primary sources, and a biblical worldview.
- The difference between liberty (the freedom to do what is right) and licentiousness (the freedom to do whatever we want) — and why that distinction matters for Christian education.
- How Christian parents, homeschoolers, and teachers can respond when people say Moses or the Bible don’t belong in public-school textbooks.
- Why removing biblical references from curriculum ultimately shapes students toward atheism or agnosticism, not “neutrality,” and how to lovingly push back.
Recently, the Texas Board of Education approved changes to their history textbooks that reference Moses as an influential person in American history. Outrage from atheist and freedom from religion groups quickly followed. They claim that the Board can’t include…
Recently, the Texas Board of Education approved changes to their history textbooks that reference Moses as an influential person in American history. Outrage from atheist and freedom from religion groups quickly followed. They claim that the Board can’t include the reference because it espouses a particular religion.
But are they right? Today on Educate For Life, Kevin will talk about how the Board defended its position on keeping Moses in American History textbooks. Does the First Amendment prevent any public reference to a particular religion? Where the founding fathers Christian? Does America have a Christian foundation?
Join Kevin as he provides a ton of facts that will help you know how to answer all of these important questions and be confident and sure in your answer.
This episode first aired on September 29, 2018.

Here’s a short excerpt from the episode:
- “A lot of people in our culture today don’t know the basis for having Moses in our textbooks. Even some Christians will say, ‘You can’t do that, we’re a pluralistic society.’ But there’s always going to be a philosophy that dominates our culture — if it isn’t Christianity, it will be something else.”
- “The Bible makes a propositional claim: ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.’ If that’s true, it makes sense that Yahweh remains the foundational guiding principle for what we do as a nation, including how we teach history and law.”
- “When the Supreme Court said, ‘This is a Christian nation,’ they didn’t mean you can’t be a Muslim or an atheist. They meant our philosophical foundation — our guiding principles — come from the Judeo-Christian religion. That’s just a fact of history.”
- “Some people think taking Moses out of the textbooks makes things ‘neutral.’ But nothing is neutral. If you remove the Bible as the reference point, you’re not left with neutrality; you’re left with another belief system quietly taking its place.”

[00:03:46] it’s also on my page educate for life 0rg and I’m gonna pick up where we left off last week you know we were talking
[00:03:53] because in the news Texas was being that the Board of Education in Texas was
[00:03:59] being challenged because they wanted to include Moses a reference to Moses in
[00:04:05] the social studies history textbooks and there was a lot of pushback against that saying hey you can’t do that you can’t
[00:04:10] have Moses in the textbooks but they are currently defending their position that
[00:04:16] it’s totally legitimate to have Moses in there but they’re also wrote they’re not going to be referencing Hillary
[00:04:21] as well as a variety of other people and the argument is that hey look we don’t
[00:04:27] have enough time to cover everything so our our minimal standards are that these people need to be referenced and Moses
[00:04:35] one of them doesn’t mean they can’t talk about Hillary but just means that part of the standards is that they do talk about Moses and why I don’t know how you
[00:04:43] pronounce this her name is Donna she is the chair of the Texas State Board of Education and this is what she said
[00:04:49] about why they’re going to include Moses she said here that Moses is actually
[00:04:59] referenced in in the Supreme Court building 18 great law law givers are
[00:05:07] adorning the frieze of the US Supreme Court building and in Congress a marble relief of Moses is located directly
[00:05:12] across from the dais where the Speaker of the House sits as for those laws that Moses gave the world the Ten
[00:05:19] Commandments are acknowledged with an engraving in the floor of the National Archives in front of the display of the Declaration of Independence and the
[00:05:25] Constitution and no wonder Time magazine in 2009 published an article how Moses
[00:05:33] shaped America and so again the argument here from Adana on the on the Texas
[00:05:38] State Board of Education is that hey Moses is all over the place he’s highly influential far more influential than
[00:05:45] Hillary Clinton so I’m gonna pick up where we left off last week what we were talking about was is America does
[00:05:51] America have a reference Christian history does it have a Christian foundation I was at a rally quite a few
[00:05:58] years ago for the cross on Mount Soledad and one of the people there was arguing
[00:06:04] with me saying that hey we we are not a Christian nation we weren’t a Christian nation we weren’t founded on Christian principles and you’d be surprised at how
[00:06:11] many people feel that way now last week when we were talking about this what I covered was that you the University of
[00:06:17] Houston study was able to isolate 3154 direct quotes from the founding fathers
[00:06:23] and what they found was hey there’s no doubt about it our country was founded
[00:06:28] on Christian principles they constantly reference to them the source that was referenced more often than any other single source was the Bible
[00:06:35] thirty-four percent of the founders quotes came directly out of the Bible now what does this have to do with apologetics why should I care about this
[00:06:41] well the reason it’s important and it’s significant is because the Bible makes a
[00:06:46] propositional claim that is that blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and that claim is that claim true blessed is
[00:06:54] the nation whose God is the Lord if it is true then it makes sense that Yahweh would remain the foundational guiding
[00:07:02] principle the principle God guiding everything that we do as a nation and
[00:07:08] but if not then what’s the point why would we have a why would we continue to
[00:07:14] have crosses out I’ll mount saw it at why would we have the Ten Commandments freeze in the Supreme Court why would we
[00:07:21] have a reference to Moses in the public schools if that weren’t the case so we’re going to pick up where we left off
[00:07:27] last week if you if you didn’t get the show last week it is on our youtube channel it’s on educate for life.org
[00:07:34] and you can check that all out there so what I was talking about last week is
[00:07:40] different laws that are actually pulled out of the Bible you know the founding fathers they they spent a lot of time in
[00:07:47] the Bible they spent a lot of time talking about the Bible studying the Bible referencing the Bible and far more
[00:07:54] than we can probably possibly imagine remember they had no social media at the time they didn’t have Facebook they didn’t have a snapchat they didn’t have
[00:08:00] any of these things to distract them right they didn’t have national sports they didn’t have video games they didn’t
[00:08:05] have TV shows so what do they do with their time well a lot of their time was spent journaling writing thinking about
[00:08:11] these issues right this is why many of the founding fathers knew multiple languages because this is what how they
[00:08:17] filled a lot of their time because what else was there to do right so here’s
[00:08:22] another one this is in 1892 the US Supreme Court’s unanimous decision in
[00:08:27] Church of the Holy Trinity versus United States stated no purpose of action against religion can be imputed to any
[00:08:34] legislation state or national because this is a religious people this is a Christian nation so here you have a US
[00:08:41] Supreme Court decision stating within the decision that this is a Christian
[00:08:46] nation now this is relevant as far as kavanah Brett Kavanaugh you know
[00:08:53] this whole big argument over whether he should be confirmed or not they’re looking into his past seeing if he you
[00:08:58] know sexually molested or took advantage of this woman who says that that he did
[00:09:04] and all these this stuff going on he is an original intent judge meaning he’s
[00:09:12] different than a judge that interprets the Constitution as a living document he believes that the in the original intent
[00:09:18] of the Constitution now this is significant because when I was discussing this with the head of the San
[00:09:25] Diego coalition of Reason she told me that the law was that that cross up
[00:09:31] amasau dad could not be on public property you she said you can’t have that cross in there it’s a religious symbol therefore you can’t have that up
[00:09:39] there now I said do you think that the founding fathers when they wrote the First Amendment did they intend that
[00:09:46] that that her idea of freedom of religion did they intend that no crosses
[00:09:52] could be on public property now she then began to say well that doesn’t matter what they intended it
[00:09:58] doesn’t matter what they intended she actually said hey look at they were slave owners they oppressed women they
[00:10:05] did a lot of bad things and therefore it doesn’t matter what what they thought because what matters is current law what
[00:10:13] the the judges today are how they’re interpreting the Constitution for modern
[00:10:18] day and this is the whole debate between a living Constitution judge in an
[00:10:23] original intent judge is kavanah he what he’s going to do as far as we understand
[00:10:29] it from his record and so forth and his his his philosophical views on the Constitution is that hey I want to know
[00:10:35] what the Founding Fathers originally intended when they wrote the Constitution when they wrote the amendments the Bill of Rights all these
[00:10:41] sorts of things I’m not going to interpret it for today as I see fit I’m going to interpret it
[00:10:46] as they specifically wanted it to be interpreted and so this is why there’s this huge battle over that and and if
[00:10:53] you’ve been falling at this at all you know that the reason you know Roe versus Wade according to many opinions and and
[00:11:01] people who are knowledge about these issues that was not good law it was not passed with an understanding
[00:11:07] of the original intent of the founding fathers when they’re talking about a
[00:11:13] person’s rights right well a right to privacy with their doctor and so forth what they’re saying is hey look this
[00:11:19] could be overturned if we have a bunch of judges that our original intent judges if they’re a living Constitution
[00:11:25] judge is not going to overturn it but a original intent judge very likely would
[00:11:31] vote to overturn it because it’s bad law and so the question becomes is this is
[00:11:37] why there’s so much attacks on on this particular judge on Breck Cavanaugh so let’s talk a little bit more about this

[00:15:06] youtube channel it will be on Facebook it’ll be everywhere so we’ll be streaming it everywhere and specifically
[00:15:11] what we’re talking about today is what happened in Texas the Texas school board is is dealing with a lot of issues
[00:15:17] because they’re talking about including Moses in the educational curriculum references to Moses as influencing our
[00:15:23] laws as influencing our our government and so forth and so there’s been a lot
[00:15:29] of pushback from groups like the Freedom From Religion Foundation and others who
[00:15:34] are saying hey you can’t have Moses in the social studies books can have Moses Moses in the history books when in fact
[00:15:40] that’s not the case at all but you know a lot of people in our culture today they don’t know the basis for having
[00:15:46] Moses you know I have Christians who say things like hey you can’t do that you know where we are pluralistic society we
[00:15:52] have freedom of religion and so they’ll say things like you can’t have a reference to Moses because that’s
[00:15:58] espousing Christianity over other religions and so people get get offended
[00:16:03] by having Moses in there but we want to ask ourselves is that really the case you know there’s going to be a
[00:16:09] philosophy that dominates our culture it’s if it’s not Christianity it’s gonna be something else it could be it could
[00:16:15] be atheism it can be agnosticism the idea that hey nobody knows a lot of people say look it let’s take the cross
[00:16:20] down and let’s just have it neutral but nothing isn’t neutral right by nothing
[00:16:29] you’re saying hey we don’t know if any religions true and we’re leaning towards atheism or agnosticism so there’s going
[00:16:35] to be a our viewpoint that is promoted in our schools in our government whatever it is
[00:16:41] in in Saudi Arabia the the viewpoint is Islam right Sharia law in India the the
[00:16:48] viewpoint is Hinduism in China the the viewpoint is atheism or communism right
[00:16:53] and so here in America what do we want it to be now the Bible says blessed is the nation whose God is Lord it says
[00:16:59] that righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people so the question becomes if we believe the Bible
[00:17:06] is true and and it’s true that blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord then
[00:17:12] we want Yahweh to remain the philosophical foundation of our of our government of our culture of our society
[00:17:18] if that’s where our blessings have come from now of course an atheist or an agnostic or somebody else is going to
[00:17:23] argue no that’s not where our blessings came from so what we want to do is we want to be able to look look at this situation we want to be able to make a
[00:17:29] connection between the prosperity between the blessings that we have in our country and our belief in Yahweh if
[00:17:36] we can make that connection if we can articulate that if we can provide evidence for it then we’ve we’ve gone a
[00:17:41] long ways in being able to make a good case that Yahweh the God of the Bible should continue to be the undergirding
[00:17:48] of philosophy the judeo-christian belief system should be what undergirds our country our government our politics so I
[00:17:56] was quoting a particular case in 1892 the US Supreme Court made a decision in
[00:18:03] in Holy Trinity versus the United States they said no purpose of action against
[00:18:09] religion can be imputed to any legislation so you can’t make laws that push down on religion but then they
[00:18:16] specify the religion they said state or national because this is a religious people and they said this is a Christian
[00:18:22] nation so what they were saying is you can’t make laws that suppress Christianity you can’t do that okay now
[00:18:28] interestingly enough the court’s decision was only 16 pages long but it had 87 precedents showing that America
[00:18:35] was a Christian nation so what is a precedent a precedent is simply an act or decision in the past which is used as
[00:18:42] an example to inform the decision that the court is going to make at the time so what they’re doing is they’re looking at previous court cases and they’re
[00:18:48] saying hey what they say in this case what do they say in this case what do they say in this case and what they had was 87 different
[00:18:53] precedents that referred to the nation as a Christian nation so this is significant for us what does it mean
[00:18:59] when they said this is a Christian nation do they mean you can’t be a Buddhist do they mean you can’t be a
[00:19:04] Muslim do they mean you can’t be no religion no not at all that’s not at all what they were saying what they were
[00:19:10] saying is this nation specifically its philosophical foundation its guiding
[00:19:15] principles are from the judeo-christian religion and that’s a fact now again a
[00:19:22] lot of people would say that’s not the case there was a textbook written called the godless Constitution and in this
[00:19:28] book the author specifically tried to say hey our country was not founded on
[00:19:34] Christianity we are not founded on the Christian religion and they say hey the
[00:19:41] Constitution doesn’t mention God therefore they didn’t want anything to do with God now now this isn’t the case
[00:19:46] remember the founding fathers were trying to walk a middle line what they were trying to do was they didn’t want to end up like
[00:19:53] the Church of England they didn’t want the country to be like England where you were penalized you could lose your job
[00:19:59] you could lose your ability to make a living if you didn’t follow the Church of England they did not want that but at
[00:20:06] the same time they knew that Christianity was necessary to any form
[00:20:11] of good government and so in the Declaration as specifically references are our Creator right it references God
[00:20:19] four times but in the Constitution it doesn’t at all and this was because there they were making an effort to walk
[00:20:24] this fine line where our whole country was undergirded by Christianity but nobody was going to be forced to be a
[00:20:31] particular religion they didn’t want that and you know interestingly enough biblically God gives us freedom it says
[00:20:37] right what does Joshua say he says choose this day whom you will serve it’s your choice it’s your prerogative you
[00:20:43] get to choose I’m not gonna make you have a relationship with God I’m not gonna make you have relationship with Jesus but at the same time if we do not
[00:20:51] have our our principles and our guidelines being pulled from
[00:20:57] Christianity guiding our country well we’re gonna be in a whole world of hurt you know I’ve been I teach
[00:21:03] Christian high-school students I teach seniors out at Christian Christian high school Shadow Mountain Church and I
[00:21:08] teach seniors and what we’ve been discussing recently is the issue of pornography and the this a lot of the
[00:21:15] students were saying things like well you know we know it’s wrong we know people shouldn’t do it but at the same
[00:21:20] time we don’t want to make them not use pornography well that’s not really a
[00:21:26] biblical viewpoint right because from from a founding father standpoint from the biblical viewpoint we don’t want
[00:21:32] people engaging in that behavior pornography I got to talk to District
[00:21:37] Attorney summer Stefan and she said that pornography amplifies human trafficking
[00:21:42] if that’s the case then why should pornography be legal pornography is also
[00:21:48] among lawyers divorce attorneys the studies have shown that more than 50% of
[00:21:54] divorces they’re saying that an obsessive use of pornography is what led
[00:21:59] to the divorce and so again we’re seeing here that pornography is extremely dangerous we know it’s a highly
[00:22:04] addictive and so why would we continue to condone that behavior why would we want to make it legal now of course some
[00:22:11] people will say well in the name of freedom we want to allow people to do whatever they want if you if you lean
[00:22:16] libertarian you might say hey let people do what they want they’ll suffer the consequences and then oh well too bad so
[00:22:22] sad you made your bed now sleep in it right so the problem with that is is a lot of people get involved in behavior
[00:22:28] and activities that they didn’t realize were addictive right so we have this huge problem with heroin and opium right
[00:22:35] now in our country and the significance is that you might say oh well that’s their fault they did it right but the
[00:22:41] problem is is a lot of people don’t know what they’re getting themselves into and we have a lot of people in situations where they’re walking down a path they
[00:22:49] don’t realize where that path ends and by the time they realize where they’re going it’s too late they’re addicted
[00:22:54] right what starts off as a moral decision eventually becomes potentially an addiction or a brain decision and you
[00:23:02] can no longer control yourself this is why we have rehab because the the person has lost self-control they’ve lost
[00:23:09] impulse control they’re addicted to whatever it might be heroin or even video games now we know that 1 in 11
[00:23:16] people clinically clinically addicted to video games well if you start a kid out at
[00:23:21] three four five years old and he’s playing video games well that’s gonna that’s gonna impact him for the rest of his life it’s gonna change how his
[00:23:27] schooling goes it’s gonna change a lot of things in his life he’s going to lose impulse control we know this now from
[00:23:32] studying the brain the prefrontal cortex is what controls impulse control
[00:23:38] self-control but your your your prefrontal cortex actually degrades your
[00:23:43] ability to use it degrades over time as you get more and more involved in an addictive behavior so the question is is
[00:23:51] let’s talk about our laws are we allow able to apply moral laws to our culture
[00:23:58] if they’re Christian laws I had a student say but mr. Conover not everybody’s a Christian and therefore is
[00:24:04] it right for me to impose my viewpoints on these other people so when we come back we’re going to talk more about that and in the meantime if you like what

[00:26:47] hey thanks for tuning in today thanks for being with me you’re on educate for life radio my I’m your host Kevin
[00:26:53] Conover my websites educate for life org I’ve got all kinds of resources up on my
[00:26:59] website and tons of videos up there that you can watch on things like how do we know God’s real what about creation and
[00:27:06] evolution you know a big topic right now is is the earth flat or is the earth a
[00:27:11] sphere you know a lot of people are wrestling with this I have I have
[00:27:16] students emailing me about this people telling me that the Bible teaches that the earth is flat you know I have strong
[00:27:23] views on that and I definitely do not think the earth is flat so but if you want to check into that look into that
[00:27:29] more there’s a bunch of stuff on on my website that you can look at we’ve got things on genetics on there and how
[00:27:35] genetics proves the existence of God how do dinosaurs fit in the Bible you know did we really did the earth come into
[00:27:42] existence billions of years ago 3.5 3.6 billion years ago or was the earth
[00:27:47] recently created all kinds of stuff that people have questions about how do I know my religion is the right religion
[00:27:52] there’s so many religions out in the world Who am I to say mine’s right how do we know the Bible is actually inspired by God all kinds of really
[00:27:59] important questions you know what my general philosophy is that the more comfortable you become with answering
[00:28:05] the questions people have about God in the Bible the easier it is for you to invite somebody to church so if you’re a
[00:28:10] Christian out there and you have a lot a lot of questions you get kind of nervous you go well man I’m not sure if I want to invite somebody to church they might
[00:28:16] ask me something like why is homosexuality wrong or are you against same-sex marriage and so what happens is
[00:28:23] the less we know about the Word of God the less we’re able to answer the questions that are popular in our culture today sometimes we get shy about
[00:28:30] inviting somebody to church or sharing the gospel with our neighbor but the more informed you become the more
[00:28:36] comfortable you get with sharing the gospel and with inviting others to church and I really encourage you to
[00:28:43] check out my website there’s all kinds of amazing stuff on there that is just really really easy to use you can access
[00:28:48] it from your phone or your computer it’s educate for life org please check it out also I’m going to be speaking at the

[00:29:19] world-renowned biblical archaeologist Steven Meyer dr. Steven Mayer from the Discovery Institute and Phil Fernandez
[00:29:26] as well as myself I’m gonna be speaking up there on how science confirms the truth of the Bible I’d love to have you
[00:29:33] join us if you would like five of the best arguments for the existence of God
[00:29:39] just shoot me an email at info at educate for life org or call and leave your email at six one nine four three
[00:29:45] one zero zero nine six or if you’re on Facebook or on the stream just leave it your email you can message me or
[00:29:51] whatever the case all my programs are up on YouTube and also on our website so
[00:29:57] what we were talking about was you know even though the Constitution doesn’t reference God’s specifically the
[00:30:03] declaration does and what why did they do that well they did that because they’re walking a fine line they know
[00:30:09] that our our country is undergirded the founding fathers know that our country is undergirded by christian ideas
[00:30:15] Christian values Christian principles that are drawn from Scripture but at the same time they don’t want to force
[00:30:20] anybody to be a particular religion so one of my students said hey mr. Conover look isn’t it wrong for us so we’re
[00:30:26] we’re discussing the issue of pornography isn’t it wrong for us to outlaw or make illegal or put restrictions on pornography because then
[00:30:33] that’s us forcing our Christian views on somebody else and we live in a country that you know as freedom of religion well what a lot of people don’t realize
[00:30:40] is that when the founding fathers talked about Liberty in the Declaration they weren’t talking about the freedom to do
[00:30:45] anything founding fathers were not okay with pornography they were not okay with
[00:30:51] prostitution they were not okay with a lot of immoral behavior now I’m not saying that some of them didn’t
[00:30:56] participate in that more immoral behavior they did but when it comes to whether they thought freedom represents
[00:31:04] the freedom to do these immoral things generally the answer is no they have the idea of what’s called Liberty which
[00:31:10] liberty is the freedom to do what’s right what’s moral what your conscience is guiding you to your
[00:31:15] god-given conscience is guiding you to do and so that meant if I am worshipping
[00:31:22] God sincerely and honestly I need to be able to have the freedom to to be able to do that without restrictions placed
[00:31:27] on me by the government the Church of England for example and so there’s a
[00:31:32] difference between liberty and what’s called licentiousness licentiousness is the freedom to do anything at all even
[00:31:39] if it’s evil but liberty in the minds of the founding fathers was the idea that you had the
[00:31:46] freedom to do what’s right and and where did that right right and has come from well it came from their biblical
[00:31:52] understanding of righteousness right the Bible says that righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any
[00:31:58] people the Bible says blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord that’s Yahweh and and what they’re saying here
[00:32:06] is is if we honor the God of the Bible then our nation will be blessed now that’s a propositional claim and our
[00:32:11] question is is it true now let me give you a quote from John Jay
[00:32:16] he was the first Supreme Court justice 1789 to 1795 this is a quote from him listen to what he says Providence has
[00:32:23] given to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian
[00:32:30] nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers so interestingly enough
[00:32:36] he left it into the hands of the people right government by the people for the people and so he said it is the duty as
[00:32:44] well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and pervert Christians for their rulers but
[00:32:51] the fact of the matter was is that’s not going to be forced upon you now here’s what here’s the difficulty if you have a
[00:32:57] nation full of people that have lost an understanding of what it means to be a
[00:33:02] Christian nation of what it of the value of having Christian principles then people begin to backtrack on for example
[00:33:10] the the the Navy I believe it was or the Air Force took off god off of there
[00:33:16] their slogan or Harvard University taking Christ off of their slogan right
[00:33:21] they took off Christ all they have is Veritas now it
[00:33:27] have a Christ in the church they just have Veritas so the issue is is we’re
[00:33:32] losing our Christian heritage and why are we losing this why is this happening well it’s happening because of ignorance
[00:33:38] because people are are not connecting the dots between the significance of having a Christian nation that doesn’t
[00:33:44] force its views on people but at the same time you’ve got to have it if if you want freedom so you know I brought
[00:33:50] up in the beginning of the show that in Texas they make a reference to Moses within the social studies history
[00:33:56] textbooks and there was some some pushback against them and they defended their view they said look at Moses is
[00:34:03] all over the place there’s a huge references Moses is the source of our laws and so of course we’re going to
[00:34:10] reference Moses but again you have people that are saying no take Moses out take Moses out separation of church and
[00:34:16] state well these are people that don’t understand where our prosperity and our blessings come from and again there’s a
[00:34:22] large portion of our population that would say no no no no no you’re wrong we don’t get our blessings from being a
[00:34:28] Christian nation we get our blessings from somewhere else you know there’s this hilarious video by Bill Nye where
[00:34:33] he says if you don’t believe in evolution you can’t be a you can’t be a
[00:34:39] good voter you can’t vote well you can’t be an engineer if you don’t believe in evolution now this is a hogwash but what
[00:34:45] I think is really interesting about what he says is he says that America is the last nation that still believes in
[00:34:51] creation and but he in the same video he says America is the nation that produces the most scientific advancements and I
[00:35:00] don’t think it’s a coincidence that were the last nation that believes in creation and we’re also the last nation that produces the most scientific
[00:35:06] advancements now you can you can argue about why that is but the reality is is that the free market system is based
[00:35:11] upon Christianity to be able to have freedom to not be oppressed socialism is
[00:35:17] not a Christian or biblical idea and the reason we have so many scientific
[00:35:22] advancements is because of we can we can link connect the dots all the way back to biblical Christianity and freedom and
[00:35:28] being able to keep what you what you earn and what you work for not being
[00:35:33] overtaxed all these things are have biblical implications and so the Bible
[00:35:40] is critically important in this case you know there were about 250 founding fathers 90% 95% of them
[00:35:45] were Orthodox Christians some of the quotes from the founding fathers are phenomenal
[00:35:50] this one Benjamin Franklin he says I have lived sir a long time and the longer I live the more convincing proofs
[00:35:56] I see of this truth that God governs in the affairs of men and if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his
[00:36:02] nose at notice is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid and interestingly enough Benjamin Franklin
[00:36:09] has called a deist right he’s downplayed as an Orthodox Christian it’s true not all his beliefs were Orthodox but the
[00:36:15] fact of the matter is is that he had high regard for the God of the Bible and here he’s referencing very
[00:36:21] matter-of-factly that God is the one that brings nations up and brings nations down so we’ve got a few more
[00:36:29] segments left here so stay with me and we’re gonna I’m gonna give you some more quotes from the founding fathers amazing
[00:36:35] quotes that they were they referencing God in the Bible showing that absolutely
[00:36:40] without a doubt our country was founded on Christian principles you can take it to the bank that’s absolutely the case
[00:36:47] so I’ll be right back if you want to support this ministry donate to EFL org donate to e FL org please check it out
[00:36:54] please share also the broadcast with your friends and family and neighbors love to have your support and
[00:37:00] encouragement and your prayers that be a huge blessing so thanks for tuning in we’re going to be right back don’t go away

[00:38:51] you’re on educate for life radio this is Kevin Conover I’m your host and we are streaming on Facebook right now we’re
[00:38:57] next week starting next week we’re gonna be streaming all over the place my tech guy figured out how to do multiple
[00:39:03] streams all at the same time so we’re gonna have be on two different Facebook pages we’re gonna be on my website we’re
[00:39:08] gonna be on YouTube we’re gonna be on periscope all over the place so please spread the word I’m really excited about
[00:39:14] some of the upcoming changes and exciting improvements in our radio program we are also streaming on at
[00:39:21] 10:00 p.m. on Sunday nights we’re going to be on 106.1 FM in North County San
[00:39:27] Diego North County we’re also going to be on our normal station 12:10 a.m. in San Diego so if you’re listening in the
[00:39:34] car or at home or wherever you are traveling you can check that out and what we’re talking about today is this
[00:39:41] whole big issue with in Texas how the Freedom From Religion Foundation and a
[00:39:47] bunch of other groups are saying hey Texas you can’t be putting Moses in your textbooks we don’t want to see any
[00:39:53] references to Moses they got rid of Hillary and so now the Texas school
[00:39:58] board has has defended their position and what they’re saying is look it we can’t cover everything we have minimal
[00:40:03] standards and Moses is a hugely significant figure in the laws that
[00:40:09] govern our country and so what I’m doing is I’m supporting them by saying hey look it let’s give some evidence that
[00:40:15] this is actually the case if you didn’t catch the show last week I went into more a lot of detail about this some
[00:40:21] major studies that were done proving that this is the case and you know it’s one thing to get in a shouting match
[00:40:26] with somebody where they say the country wasn’t founded on Christian principles and you say yes it was no it wasn’t yes
[00:40:32] it was no it wasn’t you know that’s useless that doesn’t get us anywhere we don’t want to just hate people that
[00:40:38] disagree with us we want to actually have an intelligent conversation so what we need is evidence right we want to give evidence for the truth that our
[00:40:46] country was founded on Christian principles but not just that but the Bible has a claim blessed is the nation
[00:40:51] whose God is the Lord that claim in the Bible says look at that if a nation honors Yahweh if it honors the God of
[00:40:58] the Bible then that nation is gonna experience blessings it’s gonna experience prosperity the Bible
[00:41:03] specifically sends says you will lend to many nations and borrow from none that’s
[00:41:09] what it’s talking about in the Old Testament when God is challenging the Jewish people to make him their God
[00:41:14] choose me right and he says you are gonna receive blessings you’re gonna
[00:41:20] receive the natural blessings of God’s morality when you follow God’s morality and you’re also going to receive
[00:41:25] supernatural blessings and so we want to say okay can we actually prove that is
[00:41:31] the case here’s some other quotes from some of the founding fathers Benjamin Rush he’s considered by some to be one
[00:41:37] of the top three founding fathers he said this I have alternately been called on aristocrat and a Democrat I am
[00:41:43] neither I am a Christ ik rat I like that I’m a Christ ik rat you know we’re
[00:41:49] coming up on election here in November so when somebody says hey are you dare you vote Democrat or do you vote Republican you say I vote Christ oh crap
[00:41:55] you know I’m people ask me that they say are you a Republican I say I’m a Christian way before I’m any
[00:42:03] kind of Republican now I generally vote Republican because the fact of the matter is is that currently the
[00:42:09] Republican Party has principles that are supportive of Christian values far more than the Democrat Party currently does I
[00:42:15] am NOT for socialism I am NOT for abortion I am NOT for same-sex marriage
[00:42:21] and I have no interest in being politically correct in that in that regard now do I love people yeah I love people
[00:42:27] that I’ve had abortions but I want to stop abortion I love people that are that have that are in the same-sex
[00:42:32] lifestyle I love them but that is not good for them or for the culture at
[00:42:37] large and I’ve got tons of interviews on that interviewed dr. Christopher yuan
[00:42:43] who used to be a former homosexual and he talks all about what he went through and all that sort of thing I’m not for
[00:42:49] transgenderism and why not because ultimately it’s not it’s not good for culture it’s not good for society and
[00:42:56] it’s not good for those individuals you know the transgender suicide rate is above 30% and the normal population is
[00:43:04] less than 5% why is that well there’s a significant reason here’s another quote
[00:43:09] from one of the founding fathers statesmen My dear sir May plan and speculate for liberté but it is religion and morality
[00:43:15] alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand boy that that is so true and if only
[00:43:23] people would understand just this one main point that you cannot have freedom without Christianity ultimately you will
[00:43:31] have oppression if you if for example if Hinduism in India you have the caste
[00:43:36] system the lowest caste which is called the deletes it’s da Li TS they are the
[00:43:41] outcasts right there out of the caste system they do not have freedom they don’t know how mobility to move forward
[00:43:47] economically this is why places like Calcutta India are the poorest places on earth because their philosophical
[00:43:53] foundation is Hinduism which suppresses people you cannot have freedom if you
[00:43:58] have Sharia law Islamic law women are suppressed under Sharia law woman can be beat in public a woman’s value is half
[00:44:06] that of a man it’s a horrible horrible system you cannot have freedom under
[00:44:12] atheism why can’t you have freedom under atheism well ultimately the reason is is because um if you don’t have a governor
[00:44:20] on the heart if you don’t have a moral guiding principle on the heart you
[00:44:25] create anarchy you create anything goes so if you don’t have a moral guiding principle on the heart then you must
[00:44:30] have an external control from without so in in Asia and I’m sorry in China I had
[00:44:37] a Chinese international student he said mr. Conover we’re just as free in China as you are here in America why do you
[00:44:42] keep saying that America so great and I said well you tell me if you went out in China on the street and you were
[00:44:48] upset about what the government said what your what your your your prime
[00:44:53] minister your president your whatever said I said you started handing out newspapers that said I disagree with
[00:44:59] this you know the government needs to change I said would you be able to do that how long would you last and he
[00:45:06] looked at me and he goes oh okay you’re right yeah you have more freedom here yeah you have more ability to we have
[00:45:13] freedom of the press we have freedom of religion we have freedom of expression we have freedom to assemble um well this is freedom freedom freedom freedom now
[00:45:20] not licentiousness right that’s licentiousness is freedom to do sin it’s freedom to be immoral
[00:45:27] the founding fathers wanted Liberty not licentiousness very very important to signature distinction so when John Adams
[00:45:32] says religion and morality alone are what established the principles upon which freedom can securely stand the
[00:45:39] point he’s making is this look if you don’t have Christianity you cannot have freedom why because God is the author of
[00:45:46] freedom and if you don’t believe in God then it’s just your word against somebody else’s word so if an atheist
[00:45:53] comes up to me and says hey uh or let’s say let’s say you’re an atheist that believes in freedom are you believe in
[00:45:59] Liberty and somebody comes up to you and says look I think that you should become
[00:46:04] my slave the atheist says no I believe in freedom the guy says no no but I
[00:46:10] don’t believe in your freedom and you’re gonna you’re gonna work for me now for no money and you’re gonna be my slave
[00:46:16] well the Atheist he only has a couple options he can’t appeal to God because he doesn’t believe in God so he has to
[00:46:22] fight back he has to get bigger guns or whatever whatever the case but as a
[00:46:27] Christian if I believe in God and somebody else believes in God and they try to take advantage of me I say well
[00:46:33] what does the Bible say and the Bible says that we are free right nobody is better than anybody else
[00:46:39] the Bible says there is no Jew or Greek there is no slave or free there is no male or female we are all one in Christ
[00:46:46] so when somebody tries to take advantage of me let’s say they say I’m a police officer I want to take advantage of you
[00:46:51] and they’re a Christian I can say well what does the Bible say and they if they
[00:46:58] are believer in God and they respect God they have to say yeah you’re right I can’t do that I can’t take advantage of you an employer who’s a Christian I can
[00:47:05] you take the Bible show him in the Bible is that appropriate what you’re doing do you call yourself a Christian you know it’s funny I have a funny story I was a
[00:47:12] in a I was a basketball coach for my son’s basketball team and during the the
[00:47:18] competition gets heated and this was like among like fourth graders right and so the other coach was totally flipping
[00:47:25] out freaking out and he started yelling
[00:47:30] at me and yelling at the kids yelling at one of my kids who was doing really good he and I said I said please you need to
[00:47:38] relax this is just these are just kids in elementary school here you know this is not the NBA and he he yelled at me and
[00:47:46] said no you need to relax and then I had the opportunity to say to him hey do you
[00:47:52] consider yourself a Christian because it was a Christian at basketball league now I couldn’t say that if he didn’t believe
[00:47:58] in God I couldn’t challenge him with his morality if he didn’t believe in God and this is the difficulty so if you decide
[00:48:06] that we are not a Christian nation we’re not based on Christian principles then it’s just one person’s opinion versus another but if we are a Christian nation
[00:48:13] based on Christian principles then we have a guiding philosophy that we can refer to about what is okay and what is
[00:48:19] not okay and if you decide hey I just want everything to be okay boy you’ve just opened up a Pandora’s box that
[00:48:26] you’re gonna wish was closed because then you get into areas where pretty soon people are taking advantage of each
[00:48:32] other all over the place and so our nation was founded on Christian principles we should keep Moses in the
[00:48:37] in the textbooks and we should be continually explaining to young people the connection between freedom morality
[00:48:45] and the Christian religion without that then we lose our grip on this wonderful
[00:48:52] great country that we where we have experienced so many blessings because of
[00:48:57] our philosophical foundation because of our judeo-christian foundation so thanks
