How To Share Your Faith During the Holidays

The holidays are full of warmth, tradition, and family gatherings—but they’re also one of the most natural seasons to have meaningful conversations about Jesus. In this episode of The Educate for Life Podcast, host Kevin Conover offers a practical, grace-filled guide for how to share your faith during the holidays without creating unnecessary tension. If you care about Christian education, raising kids with a biblical worldview, or simply want to grow in everyday evangelism, this conversation will encourage you to step into the season with confidence, compassion, and truth.

Wisdom for Witnessing When Family Is Around

Kevin Conover—apologist, Bible teacher, and longtime advocate for equipping families—speaks directly to a struggle many believers feel: How do I bring up Christ with relatives who disagree with me, or who don’t know the Lord at all? With a pastor’s heart and a teacher’s clarity, Kevin reframes holiday evangelism as seed-planting, not pressure-performing. You don’t need to “win” a debate at the dinner table. You’re invited to lovingly represent Christ and trust the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do.

Throughout the episode, Kevin connects evangelism to discipleship and spiritual growth. Sharing your faith isn’t a talent reserved for a few; it’s a skill that believers can develop. That’s why he emphasizes preparation—thinking ahead, praying intentionally, and entering holiday conversations with love and humility. In a culture that often paints Christians as combative or judgmental, Kevin reminds listeners that truth and love are both magnetic, and the gospel is best carried on a life that reflects Christ’s character.

Key Takeaways

  • Why loving people first is often the most powerful doorway to sharing the gospel
  • How to introduce biblical truth through curious, gentle questions instead of debates
  • Practical ways to avoid a “holier-than-thou” vibe while still being bold about Jesus
  • How to articulate the gospel clearly when opportunities open up naturally
  • Why the goal is to plant seeds during the holidays and trust God with the growth

It’s that time of year again. You’re gathering around a table with your family to share some food and conversation. So what do you talk about? You’ve probably heard it said, never talk about religion or politics. But what if you could talk about religion? Today on Educate For Life, Kevin…

[00:02:09] bring your time hey welcome to educate for life I’m your host Kevin Conover

[00:02:15] thanks for being here with us today my website is educate for life dot o-r-g and if you’re tuning in for the first

[00:02:21] time this is an apologetics radio program specifically focus on all the issues that are related to the Bible how

[00:02:29] to defend the Bible how to talk about the Bible how to share your faith and I interview people from all over the world about these different issues today I

[00:02:36] thought we’d talk about sharing your faith during the holidays I know for a lot of people there’s a lot of tension involved in okay we’re coming up on the

[00:02:43] holidays I’m seeing people that you know agree with me or don’t agree with me all kinds of people who who have different

[00:02:53] viewpoints and sometimes it creates conflict because you know maybe you have

[00:02:58] a group of people coming over to your home who aren’t necessarily believers they don’t they don’t know the Lord or maybe you’re going to visit a home where

[00:03:06] they’re celebrating Christmas but they don’t believe in Jesus right and so this

[00:03:12] can create a lot of nervousness and tension especially you know when you have people in your family or your life

[00:03:17] who you really love and you really care about and you want them to know Christ and you also feel a kind of an

[00:03:22] obligation to share your faith but you just don’t know how to go about doing

[00:03:27] that am I supposed to pray before we eat am I not supposed to pray should I pray

[00:03:33] silently and so this is a lot of stuff to work through and that’s stuff I’ve

[00:03:39] had to work through in my own family too and so I just thought we’d talk about

[00:03:45] this if you have ideas about the best way to share your faith please post a comment below and or maybe things that

[00:03:52] have worked for you that you could share with others who could be encouraged by what you’ve done and I just want to

[00:03:59] encourage you that God is is you know wants us to do this but also he’s with

[00:04:05] us guiding us through his spirit helping us to become better at sharing our faith and I also have a website that you can

[00:04:13] go to for a resource it’s got all kinds of classes they answer people’s questions about God in the Bible I also

[00:04:19] have a coaching course coming up – in which I can help coach you on sharing your faith

[00:04:24] I think a lot of people struggle with sharing their faith because they don’t

[00:04:30] treat it as something that they have to get better at it’s almost like we assume that either I can do it or I can’t do it

[00:04:37] right I’ve got the gift or I don’t have the gift and a lot of times even though

[00:04:42] there is the gift of evangelism in the in the Word of God it doesn’t mean that we can’t be a light we can’t beat that

[00:04:47] salt and light to the people around us and find creative ways to be able to share our faith or represent Christ well

[00:04:54] so let’s get into a few different ideas here that I have about how do you share

[00:04:59] your faith and one of the things that I think we overlook often in sharing our

[00:05:05] faith is just loving someone I think that’s really really important to figure

[00:05:10] out a way to love somebody I think God designed us to respond to both love and

[00:05:16] truth and so if a person experiences love they naturally respond it’s it’s my

[00:05:22] love as magnetic God designed us to love people and then on the other hand another thing that that people are

[00:05:28] attracted to is truth if if a person hears truth and it’s it’s attractive

[00:05:36] when we hear the truth and so I encourage people we want to use these

[00:05:42] things in tandem we want to love people and we want to tell the truth and so a

[00:05:48] lot of times we’re thinking more about telling the truth than we are about loving people especially around the

[00:05:53] holidays we’re constantly thinking about how can I tell them the truth how can I share the gospel how can I give them a

[00:05:59] scripture verses how can I go out of my way to love this person and this is what

[00:06:06] God tells a freight first Corinthians 13 Paul says the greatest thing is love right there’s Faith Hope and love but

[00:06:13] the greatest of these is love and so what does that mean what is love essentially well love is to put somebody

[00:06:19] else before yourself right Christ said there is no greater love than this that

[00:06:24] a man lay down his life for his friends what does that look like with my relatives what does that look like with the people I’m going to be seeing over

[00:06:31] the holidays in a lot of ways what it means serving them right it means taking the opportunity to help set up maybe even

[00:06:38] coming a day beforehand and helping set up it means helping clean up it means

[00:06:44] maybe going the extra mile in providing being a resource to people that are

[00:06:49] trying to prepare and get ready and that’s a great way that we can show love to other people um I think we have a

[00:06:57] tendency a lot of times especially around family and so forth to tell people how they should live and we we

[00:07:04] become focused on morals and not that morals are a bad thing but a lot of

[00:07:09] people a lot of times we confuse love for moral morality right so being a good person doesn’t mean you’re necessarily a

[00:07:16] loving person you can act very moral but not necessarily be loving the people

[00:07:21] around you and so love means to put some somebody else before myself

[00:07:27] now often time of course morality and love go together our hand-in-hand but we just have to be careful that we’re not

[00:07:34] spending our holiday season telling people how they should live instead of showing them that we love them so I

[00:07:41] think that’s a great starting point is love the Bible says that we love Him

[00:07:46] because we love Christ because He first loved us right and gave himself for us and so he demonstrated that love to us

[00:07:53] and that’s what draws us to him so sometimes when we love people around the holiday season that’s a real big

[00:07:59] blessing because then that love is magnetic okay let’s go to tip number two

[00:08:06] here that I wrote down I put share some truth using a question and avoid debates

[00:08:12] so what I mean by that is is a lot of

[00:08:19] times a great way to share the truth or to begin to be able to witness or share the gospel during the holidays is to

[00:08:26] share some information that maybe your family or neighbors don’t know about but that would be interesting and I think

[00:08:33] one of the ones that’s you know real is interesting is something like maybe

[00:08:38] something about the Dead Sea Scrolls the fact that the Dead Sea Scrolls have real prophecy in them that talks about Jesus

[00:08:45] the coming of the Messiah super-interesting there’s a great movie out there called the Star of Bethlehem

[00:08:50] which talks about the star that led the wise men to Christ that’s a great really

[00:08:57] really interesting and something that you can share with people even buy and pass out as a great witnessing tool it’s

[00:09:04] very interesting because it has to do with astronomy and how the stars move around the sky the the video the DVD

[00:09:12] Star of Bethlehem actually you can track back in time where the stars were at the

[00:09:18] time of Christ and it’s pretty amazing the conclusion they come to if you’ve got if you’ve got friends or family

[00:09:24] members that are into things like aliens there’s a great DVD out there called alien intrusion I got to interview the

[00:09:30] author of the book and they came out with a DVD on it and there’s a it’s a best-seller on Amazon and it’s an

[00:09:36] incredible really interesting video on aliens but it ultimately shares the

[00:09:42] gospel and so that’s another great tool and you know a lot of times we don’t

[00:09:48] share the gospel not because the opportunity isn’t there but it’s because we just haven’t taken the time to think

[00:09:53] about it and when I when I teach on Sundays and when I help disciple people

[00:10:01] in sharing the gospel a lot of what I’m doing is simply reminding them to do it

[00:10:07] and that’s really important because we can get so caught up in the day to day

[00:10:13] activities that we have going on that we can lose track of what we want what

[00:10:18] we’re supposed to be doing spiritually right what was sharing the gospel and so forth and so that’s a really helpful

[00:10:24] thing is to have somebody in your life or to be a part of a evangelism class or to be going to a church where the pastor

[00:10:31] is regularly talking about reaching out to friends and relatives and sometimes

[00:10:36] we kind of put evangelism in a box where we only do it and on Thanksgiving or on

[00:10:43] Christmas because we want to be able to invite people to something during Christmas and so that’s our that’s our

[00:10:49] time and that’s great that’s it’s certainly true more people go to church during Christmas around the Christmas

[00:10:55] time than any other time so that’s a great opportunity but at the same time we want to be thinking of opportunity

[00:11:01] in ways we can reach out outside of the holidays also for example writing a letter writing a letter a yearly letter

[00:11:09] like a Christmas letter or a update letter and including the gospel in it or including some information that again

[00:11:17] they find interesting as something that they might be willing to look into or

[00:11:22] even now that we have the internet there’s links right you can link to so many different videos that are

[00:11:28] interesting and that share the gospel and my website specifically has tons of

[00:11:33] videos that are meant to give very interesting useful information if you have a relative for example that’s

[00:11:39] interested in Buddhism we have tons of links to videos on Buddhism if you have somebody that’s interested in dinosaurs

[00:11:47] right kids love dinosaurs so we have tons of videos on dinosaurs and how

[00:11:52] dinosaurs fit in with the Bible and so just all kinds of useful resources there on the web that you can use as links to

[00:12:01] share with people and give them the opportunity to think about what you’re what you’re saying and you know I

[00:12:06] usually try to phrase things with a question hey what do you think about this you know did you know that they

[00:12:12] recently found soft tissue in a t-rex bone or soft tissue in a triceratops horn what do you think about that why is

[00:12:20] it that there’s still soft tissue red blood cells in a dinosaur bone that’s pretty provocative right I think it’s

[00:12:27] almost like a real-life Jurassic Park here why is it that we have dinosaur bones that still have soft tissue in them so when you when you have these

[00:12:34] sorts of resources you can share them and it can plant seeds and we’re coming

[00:12:41] up on a quick break here but stay with me you’re listening to educate for life radio this is Kevin Conover we’re

[00:15:58] stuff he’s done Brad daucus will be there from the Pacific Justice Institute Stephen Collins he’s a world-renowned

[00:16:05] biblical archaeologist credited with discovering Sodom and Gomorrah the ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah and Phil Phil

[00:16:12] Fernandez as well as myself I’ll be speaking on the scientific foresight of the Bible and that’s Saturday October

[00:16:18] 13th 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. that’s at Calvary Chapel South Bay 119 19300 one

[00:16:27] nine three zero zero Vermont Avenue in gardenia California so it’s a free event

[00:16:32] I hope you can make it out if you’re in the LA area it should be absolutely fantastic so what we’re talking about

[00:16:39] today is we’ve been talking about sharing your faith around the holidays can be a little bit nerve-wracking because because of the fact that you

[00:16:47] have relatives that you want to get along with right and you don’t want to cause controversy and so a lot of people

[00:16:55] avoid bringing up things like politics or religion and we’ve got a lot of both going on right now with Cavanaugh and

[00:17:00] also with the elections coming up in November it’s going to be very difficult to avoid a political discussion unless

[00:17:09] you really go out of your way but we don’t want to completely avoid discussing the truth of God’s Word we

[00:17:15] want our family members to be saved and we want to be thinking proactively we don’t we don’t want to be passive just

[00:17:23] waiting for an opportunity to arise we want to create those opportunities you

[00:17:28] know I I heard a pastor once say you know that God God didn’t tell us to just

[00:17:36] wait you know to share the gospel he said go and make disciples of all

[00:17:41] nations and so in the same way in a lot of ways we want to be thinking about creative ways that we can reach out and

[00:17:46] those don’t have to be awkward they don’t have to be fearful so far one of

[00:17:52] them I tips I gave is find a way to love somebody look at something that they need over the holidays and go out of

[00:18:01] your way to help them solve whatever that problem is it might be preparing for people to come over it might be

[00:18:07] cleaning up afterwards going the extra mile and cleaning up whatever it is Christ called us to love people and love

[00:18:14] is magnetic the second tip I gave is share some truth using a question and what I mean by that is ask them if they

[00:18:21] know about for example the Dead Sea Scrolls or ask them if they know about

[00:18:27] soft-tissue and dinosaur bones I know dinosaurs and Christmas you know I’m not sure about that but regardless

[00:18:33] people love dinosaurs any time of year so you know go for it but there’s all kinds of things you can

[00:18:39] bring up and so all you got to do is do a little bit of research before you go

[00:18:44] to that Thanksgiving dinner or before you go to that Christmas event spend some time learning about something and

[00:18:49] then bring it up and just ask a question and don’t feel like you have to win a debate you’re not there to win a debate

[00:18:54] you’re not there to win an argument you’re just there to break the ice and in plant seeds you know God is not

[00:19:02] asking us to to necessarily get somebody saved I mean he does that through his Holy Spirit but he is asking us to start

[00:19:09] that conversation just start planting those seeds in people’s hearts a lot of the people that I’ve seen saved over the years it was a long process of them

[00:19:16] coming to Christ but it all started with planting a seed I tell this story frequently about a a guy I

[00:19:24] I knew in college we were in a physics class together and that the teacher the

[00:19:31] professor at the time brought up some of the laws of thermodynamics and when he started talking about how things break

[00:19:38] down over time because of the laws of physics I pointed out to my friend I said look that right there shows that

[00:19:45] evolution can’t possibly be true because evolution says things get progressively better over time but the laws of physics

[00:19:51] say things get progressively worse and there’s a whole discussion on that in one of my classes online if you go into

[00:19:58] the 100 series there’s a whole discussion on the laws of thermodynamics I’m well aware that typically

[00:20:05] evolutionists will argue that the laws of thermodynamics can be overcome by adding energy to a system and so forth

[00:20:11] and so on but that’s not what we’re talking about today so regardless this this friend of mine he heard what I said

[00:20:17] and he listened and I said what do you think and he said that doesn’t doesn’t

[00:20:23] work for me and so the semester ended and we went our separate ways and I

[00:20:28] thought well there goes that didn’t didn’t really make much of a difference and three years later I was sitting in a

[00:20:35] coffee shop and in walks this guy and he walks right up to me and I didn’t recognize him at the time because he had

[00:20:40] he looked a lot different from from when we were in college together and he said Kevin he pointed at me he said Kevin and

[00:20:46] I said yeah and he said I’ve been praying that God would help me find you

[00:20:52] and I was like what and he goes it’s me Bobby from physics class and he said

[00:20:59] what you said in that physics class is one of the big things that got me saved and I was blown away here it was three

[00:21:07] years later and that short conversation we had he credited with what ultimately

[00:21:12] led him to Christ and so we’re planting seeds and we’re letting God you know

[00:21:18] water them and we’re letting other people come along and nurture those seeds and ultimately we’re trusting God

[00:21:23] that he’s gonna provide the increase that’s what the Word of God says so so Sarah share some truth using a question

[00:21:30] be prepared with some questions to ask them okay

[00:21:37] let’s go to tip number three actually before we go to tip number three I’m going to show a quick clip of me sharing the gospel down at the beach and this is

[00:21:43] relevant to sharing the gospel with your family over the holidays so watch this quick clip this is a guy I got to share

[00:21:49] the gospel with and he ended up accepting Christ now there is a small spot on this clip that’s kind of blacked

[00:21:54] out but just listen to the audio don’t worry about that just listen to the audio and and I’ll share with you what I

[00:22:01] think about it afterwards okay thanks go ahead and watch the clip yeah what do

[00:22:07] you believe what do you are you you have any do you

[00:22:12] go to church or anything like that you used to so do you think you’ll go to heaven when you die yeah would you mind

[00:22:20] if I give you a quick quiz real quick okay ready have you heard of the ten commandments yeah okay how many lives

[00:22:27] would you save told in your whole life Alexis hundreds okay what do you call somebody who’s told hundreds of Lies oh

[00:22:34] so what does that make you alright okay have you ever stolen anything in your whole life

[00:22:39] yeah okay and what do you call somebody who steals a thief right yeah yeah okay

[00:22:45] I’m not judging you Alexis okay okay have you ever used God’s name in vain like you stub your toe or something

[00:22:52] that you’re like Oh blank dang it yeah okay that’s using God’s name as a cuss word it’s called blasphemy right and

[00:22:57] then last question for you Alexis have you ever looked at a woman with lust

[00:23:03] yeah you have okay so Jesus said if you look at a woman with lust it’s like committing adultery in your heart so I’m

[00:23:09] not judging you Alexis right but by your own admission you’re a lying thief laughs miss adulterer at heart right

[00:23:15] okay so you get to heaven and there’s the pearly gates and if God judges you

[00:23:20] by the ten commandments are you gonna be guilty or innocent guilty heaven or hell hell okay does that concern you yeah

[00:23:29] okay do you know what God did for guilty sinners like you and me what did he doing he died for us what’s your name

[00:23:36] Jasmin awesome thanks jasmine yeah so so he died on the cross so that you don’t

[00:23:42] have to pay the penalty for your sins right so Alexis is in the

[00:23:48] the courtroom the judge pronounces him guilty and Jesus steps in and says I’m gonna take his place so that he doesn’t

[00:23:54] have to pay the penalty for his own sins does that make sense yeah have you have you made the decision to follow Christ

[00:24:01] no to give your life to Him to say hey yeah because the Bible says that the free gift of salvation is eternal life

[00:24:07] but it says you have to take the gift right you have to take the gift you can’t just look at the gift you have to

[00:24:12] take the gift from Christ have you have you made that decision to make him the Lord of your life you have yeah okay no

[00:24:20] you haven’t okay so at some point in time you know that’s what you want to do you want to I

[00:24:25] mean is that something that you would do have you have you thought about that before you are you serious about it you

[00:24:34] want to make that decision to accept Christ to follow Christ yeah like right

[00:24:39] now okay we had a little bit of technical difficulty there but the clip

[00:24:46] actually it ran right up to the part where I share the gospel with him and he

[00:24:51] ultimately accepts Christ but what I wanted you to get from this is that you

[00:24:57] want to be able to share the gospel effectively so I learned this from Ray Comfort just watching his videos and

[00:25:04] using that I used to try to share the gospel and it was very difficult because I would say to somebody would you like

[00:25:12] to become a Christian would you like to get saved and they’d say why and they’d say saved from what and I I would say

[00:25:18] well so you can go to heaven and they’d say well I haven’t really done anything bad I haven’t killed anybody or anything

[00:25:23] and so for me this was a real struggle because I couldn’t see you know I didn’t know what to say at that point but the

[00:25:30] Bible is very clear about it it says that were to use the law to show people that they need Christ and so you saw a

[00:25:37] Lexus there in that video what he did was he said he started off by saying I said do you think you’ll go to heaven

[00:25:43] when you die and he’s 80 oh yeah for sure and then I would started going through the Ten Commandments and he realized wait a second I’m not as good

[00:25:49] as I thought I was I’ve lied I’ve stolen I blaspheme dive I’ve you know looking at a woman with lust and so he ends up

[00:25:57] thinking okay I do need to be saved and so what I found is once I learned how to communicate

[00:26:03] this effectively I had a much more success in people going whoa that makes

[00:26:10] a lot of sense and no longer did they wonder what were they what did they need to be saved from because we judge people

[00:26:17] all day long about whether they’re doing the right thing or the wrong thing when we’re at work we will look at somebody and say why did they do that they

[00:26:23] shouldn’t have done that and we look at people on TV and we say they shouldn’t have done that we look at politicians we say what they

[00:26:30] shouldn’t have done that we look at companies we say they shouldn’t have done that and so we’re we know right and

[00:26:35] wrong or very clearly and then when that when that’s pointed back on us and we look at our own lives we go hey I guess

[00:26:41] you know what I’m not as good as I should be either and so the good news is is that Jesus Christ died on the cross

[00:26:48] for our sins so we don’t have to face God’s justice we we get to go to heaven

[00:26:55] and Christ takes that punishment for us that’s what the cross was for so it’s

[00:27:00] important that you learn to share the gospel if you don’t know how to share it already because it’s great to love

[00:27:07] people it’s great to find ways to ask them questions about you know share with

[00:27:14] them information about things about the resurrection and interesting facts that’s all great but ultimately you want

[00:27:21] to get to the point where you can actually articulate and explain the gospel well so that somebody goes wow

[00:27:27] that makes total sense I need Jesus in my life and they turn their life over to him okay we’ve got a

[00:30:26] thanks for being with me today this is educate for life radio I’m your host Kevin Conover and I’ve been teaching

[00:30:31] apologetics for twelve years now to high school students and I teach people how to defend their faith how to share their

[00:30:38] faith and how to lovingly approach people you know there’s this there’s this stigma out there that sharing the

[00:30:45] gospel with people is offensive and you know things come to mind of people holding up signs saying you’re going to

[00:30:50] hell and these sorts of things and we don’t want to come off that way Christ was a very loving and he did kind of you

[00:31:00] know condemn people but usually it was people that were very very religious the religious leaders whose focus was on

[00:31:06] being moral but not necessarily having a relationship with Christ and so when

[00:31:11] we’re hanging out with our our relatives and so forth around the holidays and everything we don’t want to come off as

[00:31:17] more you know holier than thou or you know kind of righteously moral because

[00:31:25] ultimately Christ did not die to make us moral he died so that we could have a relationship with God and and do we

[00:31:32] become more moral yeah absolutely we become more moral but morality is not our end goal our end goal is a

[00:31:38] relationship with God and so over the holidays we want to be ambassadors of Christ we want to reflect the

[00:31:45] relationship with God that we have and so that’s that’s important because we

[00:31:52] can easily get fall into telling people you should live this way or you should do this or you should do that and we end

[00:32:00] up with all these moral rules and that can be a really a big turn-off and rightly so when we keep laying down

[00:32:07] rules after rules after rules all it does for a lot of people has produced a lot of guilt and shame and I’ll never be

[00:32:13] able to live up to that and so Christ did not die so that we could be moral

[00:32:18] people he died to release us from that shame and guilt so that we could have an authentic relationship with God in which

[00:32:25] he loves us even when we make mistakes and he helps us to grow and become a better person so I’ve been through a few

[00:32:32] different tips so far and so I I said that you want to share truth

[00:32:40] and you want to share love both of these are magnetic meaning if I share some truth about the Word of God and it

[00:32:47] resonates with somebody the truth will resonate and they will be drawn to that truth if I share the love of God that

[00:32:54] love will be magnetic and will draw people if I love them right so I can

[00:32:59] share truth I can share love these are both things I want to do now sometimes you might get to a point where you’ve

[00:33:04] loved people you’ve shared truth and they’re not responsive now you just

[00:33:10] consistently keep sharing love and truth but there’s some other things you can do too one of the things I like is Christ said

[00:33:18] do your good deeds in front of man that they may praise your father in heaven and to me this is a really powerful way

[00:33:26] of representing Christ to those around you if you’ve loved them you’ve given

[00:33:32] them truth and you’re looking for another way to represent Christ to them be an ambassador for Christ by loving

[00:33:40] people in your community or serving finding a need and serving in your community this is really cool because

[00:33:46] what it does is it shows what it means to be a follower of Jesus if you go down

[00:33:53] to a soup kitchen and you videotape maybe you and a your one of your children down at the soup kitchen

[00:33:59] helping out and you post it on social media and you don’t you’re not bragging about it or anything but you’re just

[00:34:04] saying hey we got to go down to the soup kitchen and help out and we just wanted to share the love of Jesus with people boy people are gonna see that and

[00:34:11] they’re they’re going to properly go WOW Christians are really loving people you

[00:34:16] know a lot of times Christians get back a bad rap because we’re constantly fighting for what’s right in the culture so we’re fighting for we’re fighting

[00:34:24] against abortion for example right or we’re fighting against maybe people are

[00:34:31] fighting against same-sex marriage whether they’re fighting against all these things are trying to pass laws and

[00:34:36] so a lot of people look at this and go Christians are just all about rules they just want to impose their rules on you

[00:34:42] and that’s a real bad rap because ultimately of course those laws are meant to be able to facilitate love and

[00:34:49] health and well-being for people but a good way to that stereotype that Christians are just

[00:34:56] trying to force people to do what they want them to do is by going out and loving people so maybe your church

[00:35:03] brings the homeless to their church to give them haircuts or to wash their feet

[00:35:10] or whatever it might be to give them a fresh change of clothes get involved in those sorts of things and that’s a

[00:35:16] testimony to your relatives about what it means to be a Christian and so they may have stereotyped you about being a

[00:35:22] goody two-shoes but when they see that you’re out there serving it’s difficult to be upset at somebody who’s generous

[00:35:29] and kind and loving and helping other people out and so that’s a great way to represent Christ to your family and to

[00:35:35] your friends and to your neighbors is by finding a way to serve you know our church every year goes out and serves

[00:35:42] the community by finding ways they can paint somebody’s house or repair a broken fences or weed people’s yards

[00:35:49] that’s another great way to go out and represent Christ to those around you and

[00:35:55] my another church I know of actually goes down to Mexico because we’re right on the border there and serves in an

[00:36:02] orphanage helps grow grow vegetables and stuff and plays with the kids and that’s

[00:36:07] another great thing that you can do find a way to represent Christ to your community and that’s where Jesus says do

[00:36:14] your good deeds in front of man that people may see what you do and praise

[00:36:19] your father in heaven and so now of course the Bible also says don’t let

[00:36:25] your left hand or your right hand know what the other is doing because we’re not doing it because we want to say oh look at me I’m so great we’re doing it

[00:36:32] because we want to say oh look at me God’s so great and the reason I’m doing this is because of God’s great love for

[00:36:37] me and I want to love people back and so that’s another great thing you can do in

[00:36:43] order to share the love of Jesus okay that was tip number three and let’s talk

[00:36:50] about tip number four and this one I like also notice what I’m doing here in

[00:36:56] all of these is I’m trying to take away the fear and the awkwardness the goal is to make this more comfortable and not

[00:37:03] something that’s that’s awkward and strange right we don’t want our our relatives thinking

[00:37:11] ugh here comes the weirdo again right they’re just gonna talk about Jesus all day long we’re trying to represent

[00:37:16] Christ well to them so here’s the next one it’s ask your loved ones about their beliefs ask those relatives ask these

[00:37:24] other people what do you think and then just sit back and let them share this is

[00:37:29] one of the most powerful ways it you show somebody that you love them and you don’t need to say a word just let them

[00:37:36] speak ask them more questions just the fact that you’re willing to listen to somebody else and take the time to hear

[00:37:42] what they have to say is a very very powerful way to show that you care about somebody and the temptation will always

[00:37:49] be when they say something that you disagree with the cut-in and say oh but that’s not true or or start arguing you

[00:37:57] want to avoid arguing at all cost you want to avoid people’s tempers rising that’s just gonna ruin the opportunity

[00:38:03] and it’s gonna take away future opportunities what we want to do is ask

[00:38:08] questions and if they’re open to a response then great if they’re not then

[00:38:14] ask more questions and you know Greg cocoa is real good at this that’s what his whole book tactics is all about is

[00:38:20] is about just continually asking questions and ultimately the hope is is

[00:38:26] that if our questions are good enough and that we’re asking the right questions that ultimately the person begins to question their beliefs as well

[00:38:33] and so that’s a great strategy too is to learn about other people’s beliefs and

[00:38:39] also when you learn about their beliefs then you’ll know better how to plant

[00:38:45] seeds right so if a person says you know what really bothers me about the Bible is I feel like it’s against science and

[00:38:53] I feel like people that are religious they are all about just believing things

[00:38:59] for no good reason well now at least you know where they’re coming from you know what their thoughts are or they might

[00:39:04] say you know what really bothers me is all the hypocrisy in the church I mean look at this and look at that and these

[00:39:11] religious people are hypocritical again that just helps you to know what the

[00:39:17] issues are that they’re struggling with and how to respond to those now it doesn’t mean you have to respond right away but if you listen carefully you remember

[00:39:25] those things then you can put those to good use down the road right you can link to a video that has to do with what

[00:39:32] they’re concerned about and so that’s a great way to learn more about them and

[00:39:38] how to better respond to them okay we’ve got one more tip left and we’re coming

[00:39:44] up here on another break it’ll be real quick here note you’ll notice I’m putting sponsors up now through my

[00:39:49] stream these are all people that have decided to help fund the radio program and the ministry and I would love it if

[00:39:55] you would support them if you would call them and say hey I heard about you from Kevin Connor MERS radio program and I

[00:42:19] [Music] No hey thanks for being with me today we’re on the last segment here at

[00:42:25] educate for life radio I’m your host Kevin Conover and my website is educate for life org

[00:42:30] it’s a 501 C 3 non-profit if you’d like to support what we’re doing we’re reaching out all over the place to share

[00:42:37] the gospel to share the truth the truth of the Bible we’ve got over 40 classes now online the videos are all meant to

[00:42:44] help you learn how to defend your faith and share your faith so we cover everything you can imagine from creation

[00:42:49] and evolution we cover a world religions we get into Buddhism Islam Mormonism – holds witness Hinduism Judaism we get

[00:42:56] into no religion at all and then the 300 series is on how do we know the Bible is

[00:43:02] actually God’s Word so we cover things like how do we know that the the books that are in the Bible are the books that

[00:43:07] God wanted in the Bible how do we know that it’s truly inspired by God how do we know that it hasn’t been changed so

[00:43:13] all these different questions that people have over 12 years I put together a curriculum that’s meant to be very

[00:43:18] user friendly I have college students watching it in college Bible studies I have youth groups using it individuals using

[00:43:25] homeschooling families using it so it’s available to you to be able to go check out all you have to do is just type in

[00:43:32] your email and you get access to all this these resources to be able to use so you can watch them on your phone you

[00:43:39] can watch them on the in on your PC whatever it might be it’s a great resource for you to use and so what

[00:43:45] we’re talking about today is sharing your faith we’re coming up on the holidays we’re going to be seeing a lot of relatives that maybe we don’t see

[00:43:51] that often and so we want to be prepared we don’t want to be accidentally sharing

[00:43:57] our faith because a lot of times if what we’re doing is sharing our faith by accident we end up not sharing our faith

[00:44:03] at all and so we want to be thinking ahead of time what can I do that’s

[00:44:08] creative that’s inoffensive that’s not awkward that would help me be able to share my faith and again we’re focused

[00:44:15] here on planting seeds we’re not focused on you know getting the grow in the

[00:44:22] whole plant and harvesting the plant all in one fell swoop the goal is just to plant seeds and you don’t have to feel

[00:44:29] pressure you just have to trust the Lord that he’s going to guide you to do that and so you know some of the things that

[00:44:37] happened though along the way is we may feel like we’re not qualified to be able to share our faith we may think well

[00:44:43] there’s going to be a question that comes up that I can’t answer and I’m afraid of that you don’t have to worry

[00:44:49] about that all you do is say hey that’s a good question I’ve never thought about that it’s just an opportunity to

[00:44:55] dialogue with somebody and to learn and to grow i I’ve the the way I’ve gotten

[00:45:00] good at sharing my faith and responding to people’s questions is because I put

[00:45:05] myself out there and a lot of people asked me questions that I couldn’t answer and so you know for a long time

[00:45:10] it was kind of just hit or miss and but the thing is is that we just want to do

[00:45:16] our best to plant a seed here a seed there even if I can just plant one seed this holiday season that goes a long

[00:45:23] ways you never know how that seeds going to sprout and grow and sometimes we may

[00:45:28] think we may hear in our head a voice in our head saying hey you’re not good enough to be able to share the gospel

[00:45:34] but remember that we don’t have to be good enough because Jesus was good enough and if somebody if you’re afraid

[00:45:41] somebody’s gonna call you out and go well you don’t live a perfect life you just say that is the truth I do not live

[00:45:46] a perfect life and I need Jesus and that’s the great thing about Jesus is that he’s not looking for perfect people

[00:45:51] he’s just looking for people who want to follow him and walk with Him and so so

[00:45:58] just be thinking about that a lot of times you know we’re thinking of a worst case scenario what if I completely ruin

[00:46:03] the relationship I have with this person but as long as we’re going forward thinking being loving and being kind and

[00:46:10] and following the heart of Christ then the truth of the matter is is people

[00:46:15] don’t get upset when people love them and that’s what God has called us to be he’s called us to be lovers of people I remember one time I was talking to my

[00:46:23] wife about this when we were early on in our relationship we were actually just dating and there was somebody in her

[00:46:30] family who she had never shared the gospel with and who she wasn’t sure if knew the Lord or not and we were going

[00:46:38] to dinner with this person and I said would it be okay if I if I asked her

[00:46:44] about her spiritual beliefs and if she knows Jesus and if she wants to go to heaven and and my wife

[00:46:50] was very nervous about it she was uncomfortable with it wasn’t somebody who was especially close to but she said okay

[00:46:55] go for it if the opportunity arises go for it and you know all throughout dinner I didn’t feel like there were

[00:47:01] opportunities that were arising but at the same time this particular woman was the relative of hers was relatively old

[00:47:08] and I was concerned that we don’t know how long she has to live and so finally

[00:47:14] I just said hey would you mind me if I asked you do you think that you’re gonna go to heaven when you die and you know

[00:47:21] you think that somebody’s gonna be like offended by that right how dare you ask

[00:47:26] me if I think I’m gonna go to heaven but she all she responded was well I hope so

[00:47:32] and then she said you know why do you ask and I said well we care about you and we just want to we want to know for

[00:47:39] sure that you’re gonna go to heaven and I said would you mind if I told you how to get to heaven and she said no tell me

[00:47:45] go ahead and I was able to share the gospel and she prayed and and accepted the Lord right there and so sometimes

[00:47:52] we’re afraid for reasons that aren’t going to materialize and that person’s just waiting for us to ask them what

[00:48:00] what they think about Jesus and how to get to heaven and you never know what could have happened over the past year

[00:48:06] since you last saw them that has changed their mind about things and they’ve they’re moving in a different direction

[00:48:12] and they’re questioning things or maybe they had struggles in their life that have caused them to feel the need to

[00:48:17] think about these issues more deeply and so we don’t want to miss those opportunities we want to take those

[00:48:23] opportunities don’t give up somebody that says no a lot to being invited to church I can’t tell you how many times

[00:48:29] I’ve heard the testimony of a Christian who said the reason I finally went to church was because this person asked me

[00:48:35] five times if I would go to church and they end up going to church they end up becoming a Christian and that’s because

[00:48:42] somebody didn’t give up on them and you know I’ve heard I think it was Josh McDowell who said I am so glad that God

[00:48:50] didn’t give up on me when I was a hard hearted college atheist who was

[00:48:56] obnoxious and angry I’m so glad that God didn’t give up on me and so we don’t want to give up on those

[00:49:03] people around us who seems so resistant to the gospel who seems so much like

[00:49:08] they don’t want to hear it and yet if we keep continue to approach them and love and kindness in truth that God is

[00:49:17] working on their heart those seeds are developing they’re growing and God is

[00:49:23] going to move and ultimately he’s gonna save them so again I just want to

[00:49:30] emphasize them we have a great conference coming up on October 13th it’s 9:30 to 3:30 on Saturday up at

[00:49:36] Calvary Chapel South Bay in Ana in the LA area and there’s going to be all

[00:49:43] kinds of fantastic speakers it’s completely free a great opportunity to learn how to share your faith how to defend your faith and we need more

[00:49:50] people that have answers to those hard questions you know my whole ministry was

[00:49:55] started because a lot of students walk away from their Christian faith because they don’t get answers in middle school

[00:50:02] in high school right I’ve had students say you know I ask questions to my youth pastor I ask questions to my teacher I

[00:50:08] ask questions to my parents I ask questions to the pastor and I didn’t get the answers that I needed and so our

[00:50:15] ministry is there to be a support to you to find answers and to also be able to

[00:50:21] provide those answers to others in a way that’s easy to understand so if you go on our website we have the 100 course

[00:50:27] 200 course 300 course 400 course and if you get all through all that and you still want more we have coaching in

[00:50:33] which I’ll walk beside you and encourage you I think one of the most valuable

[00:50:39] things that the disciples had was the fact that Jesus was right there with them consistently encouraging them and

[00:50:45] we have the Holy Spirit and we have the church and that’s super valuable take advantage of the Holy Spirit who will

[00:50:52] remind you of what God has taught you through the word and take advantage of church because the whole point of church is over time you can lose your

[00:50:59] motivation right you go throughout the week and you get busy with life and you

[00:51:04] get tired and there’s lots of responsibilities and sometimes we can lose sight of those the big picture and

[00:51:11] that ultimately wherever we are we’re a missionary wherever you work if you’re an engineer

[00:51:17] if you’re a dentist if you’re a doctor wherever you are that’s your mission field and those people need Christ just

[00:51:23] like everybody else needs Christ and you know we have missionaries that travel all over the world they travel to Africa to share the gospel and those people in

[00:51:29] Africa need the gospel but a lot of times we have those people right here in our homes in our neighborhoods who need

[00:51:35] the gospel and that is our mission field the the Bible is abundantly clear that

[00:51:42] there is nothing more important nothing more significant than sharing the truth

[00:51:47] of Jesus Christ with those around us and so as Christians this is our opportunity

[00:51:52] to get out there and share the love of Jesus visit you I plan on visiting my neighbor’s this year passing out cookies

[00:51:59] and passing out invitations to church with my kids with my wife and my kids and so I’m always looking for trying to

[00:52:05] find creative ways to try to reach out and share the truth with people if you need that encouragement if you need that

[00:52:12] inspiration go online to our coaching course and you can sign up there I’m also keep the keynote speaker at the

[00:52:20] Southwest Alana’s conference at shadow Mountain here on October 13th I’ll be speaking there on specifically how to

[00:52:28] share your faith and also on some of the scientific evidences for the truth of God’s Word so I hope you can potentially

[00:52:35] join us for that if you’re involved in a Juana’s that’s a fantastic ministry also well we’re about at a time I hope this

[00:52:41] has been a blessing to you we’re going to be back next week and we will be

[00:52:52] around 100 shows now on YouTube we’re almost to a million views and so please check those out also that’s a great

[00:52:59] resource I’ve interviewed dr. Jason Lisle astrophysicist dr. Christopher you on expert on gender and sexuality I’ve
