How To Know America Is a Christian Nation — with Kevin Conover

Understanding America’s heritage is essential for Christian education, biblical worldview formation, and raising the next generation to stand firm in their faith. In this episode of The Educate for Life Podcast, Kevin Conover explores why the United States is not only influenced by Christianity but deeply shaped by biblical principles from the very beginning. This conversation is especially timely for Christian parents, homeschool families, and anyone passionate about apologetics, creation science, and faith-filled civics.

Why This Topic Matters Today

Kevin takes listeners into a clear, evidence-based discussion on how Scripture influenced early American law, culture, and political philosophy. In a culture where secular narratives often claim that America was founded without religious influence, this episode equips believers with historical facts, biblical worldview grounding, and practical apologetics.

Whether you’re navigating homeschool curriculum choices, preparing students to defend their faith, or simply wanting to understand the intersection of faith and history, this episode provides powerful clarity.

Key Takeaways

  • How biblical principles shaped America’s early laws and political ideas
  • Why the Founding Fathers consistently referenced Scripture in their writings
  • The connection between Christian morality and national stability
  • What happens when a nation moves away from its biblical foundation
  • How parents and educators can teach American history through a Christian worldview

Is America a Christian Nation? Is it different from any other country in the world? In today’s culture, these two questions are being hotly debated. Today on Educate For Life Kevin will dig into some facts that will help you answer these questions.  Brazil has had 7 Constitutions…

Is America a Christian Nation? Is it different from any other country in the world? In today’s culture, these two questions are being hotly debated. Today on Educate For Life Kevin will dig into some facts that will help you answer these questions.

Brazil has had 7 Constitutions since 1822. Poland has had 6 constitutions since 1921. Afghanistan has had 5 constitutions since 1923. Russia has had 4 constitutions since 1918. France is currently on its 15th constitution. America has used the same Constitution for over 200 years. That is more than any other nation on earth. Why is that? Could it possibly be because it contains Biblical principles that make it exceptional strong?

A majority of the founding fathers believed in the Bible. When framing the Constitution they quoted and referenced the Bible and other writings that also referenced the Bible. One of the most reference writings for the Constitution was “The Two Treatises of Government” by John Locke. In that document, he references the Bible an astounding 1500 times!

Join Kevin for an informative episode that will help you know the answers to these questions.

This episode first aired on September 15, 2018.

Here’s a short excerpt from the episode:

  • Kevin Conover: “When we look at the founders’ writings, we see over and over again that Scripture wasn’t peripheral — it was central. Our laws, our rights, and even our understanding of liberty come from biblical truth.”
  • Kevin: “If Christianity isn’t the foundation, something else will be. Every nation has a moral base — the question is whether it leads to freedom or bondage.”
  • Kevin: “Righteousness exalts a nation. The evidence is overwhelming that when America aligned itself with biblical values, it flourished, and when it drifted, it struggled.”

[00:02:20] talking about today we’re going to be talking about the idea that the that America is founded on Christian

[00:02:25] principles judeo-christian the judeo-christian religion in Texas right now there’s an interesting thing

[00:02:31] happening where they’re reviewing their textbooks and trying to find out if they

[00:02:36] want to use the same textbooks and and change their standards and so forth and because Texas is so large wherever text

[00:02:43] whatever Texas chooses for their their books a lot of times they have a heavy influence on what’s happening in the

[00:02:50] rest of the country so what books other states use and there’s a reference in

[00:02:55] their social studies textbooks in high school to Moses as being influential in

[00:03:01] the laws that we have in our country and so that being the case some people are

[00:03:07] really upset that there’s a reference to Moses in the the social studies textbooks for public high school

[00:03:14] students some people have complained about this or saying hey this shouldn’t be the case and they’re saying that hey

[00:03:19] our nation wasn’t founded on Christian principles therefore there’s no reason

[00:03:24] to have a reference to Moses so what I want to do today is go through a bunch of the evidence that actually hard

[00:03:30] evidence that demonstrates that our country was founded on Christian principles judeo-christian principles sometimes I’m surprised that this is

[00:03:36] still an issue it seems like it should be something that is settled but it keeps popping up and so until that goes

[00:03:44] away it’s worth talking about and clarifying so if you’re interested on my

[00:03:50] website there’s a whole there’s a whole lesson on this actual subject because it

[00:03:56] is so important there’s a whole on lesson 401 you can go to my website educate for life Oh our ji and you can

[00:04:03] watch three different lessons that actually give the evidence that not only was America founded on Christian

[00:04:09] principles judeo-christian principles but it’s important that it continue to be the case and I know a lot of people

[00:04:15] are of the opinion that hey we’re in a post we’re on a post Christian nation now and

[00:04:21] people you know feel like throwing up their hands and given up but the reality is is that that our Christian heritage

[00:04:27] our Christian foundations are the best thing for the country you have to ask yourself if Christianity isn’t going to

[00:04:33] be the foundation of the country then what else is it going to be I mean there’s lots of options out there in

[00:04:40] India the the foundation of the foundational philosophy for them is Hinduism and so what does that mean what

[00:04:48] what is the impact well the impact is things like the caste system which keeps

[00:04:53] people poor right if you’re in a lower caste it’s very difficult to get out of that caste and you’re stereotyped and

[00:05:01] prejudiced against based on what caste you’re in they also have a reverence for

[00:05:07] cows and how does that practically affect them well if people are very hungry they can’t eat the cows that are

[00:05:14] right there right you can’t raise beef to eat it and so that’s gonna affect you know your economy that’s gonna affect

[00:05:21] your ability to eat food there’s all sorts of things like that you can look at countries like Iraq or Iran which

[00:05:27] have as their foundational philosophy Islam and ask yourself well is that something we want well up until recently

[00:05:33] women in in Saudi Arabia which also has its foundational philosophy as Islam it

[00:05:40] couldn’t even Drive because and and even now even now under Islamic law Sharia

[00:05:46] law it’s dangerous for a woman to go out on her own simply because her testimony in court is

[00:05:53] worth half that of a man and that being the case if a woman is walking along the street makes eye contact with a man he

[00:06:00] can accuse her of trying to seduce him if there is no other man present to counteract this other man’s testimony so

[00:06:06] that woman it’s dangerous for her to go out on her own without her husband brother son whatever it may be

[00:06:13] and you also want to ask yourself okay is that what we want for America well I

[00:06:18] think most people would say absolutely not and what’s happening in our in our country though is that people are

[00:06:24] becoming increasingly at agnostic atheistic or skeptical and so they’re

[00:06:30] moving away from Christianity our country is moving more towards an agnostic view point now we still have a very

[00:06:35] large percentage of people that claim to be Christian and say they believe in the Bible they follow Jesus but there are a

[00:06:40] lot of people fighting to get any reference to Christianity out of the schools in Texas like I said this is

[00:06:47] just happening they’re arguing that there’s a reference to Moses as being influential in the in the founding laws

[00:06:54] of our country which is absolutely the case but they’re trying to remove that because they don’t want to even a

[00:07:00] reference to Moses in the social studies books which to me seems ridiculous that

[00:07:05] we even have to have this discussion but here it is we are having the discussion and it’s a very real issue so let’s talk

[00:07:13] about how we know that Christianity is the foundation of this country what

[00:07:18] evidence do we have that that is the case now before we hop into that I want you to be aware if you’re in Southern

[00:07:25] California I’m going to be speaking at the national apologetics conference put

[00:07:33] on by Veritas International University that’s on October 13th and I’m gonna be

[00:07:38] talking along with a bunch of other speakers Stephen Meyer including them if you don’t know who Stephen Meyer is he’s

[00:07:44] one of the founding quote fathers of the intelligent design movement and he wrote signature in the cell and many other

[00:07:50] things that are very very compelling arguments for an intelligent designer a

[00:07:55] creator a God who made everything and so I’m gonna be speaking with him and a

[00:08:00] variety of other speakers if you want to be equipped to be able to defend your faith that’s a great conference that’s on October 13th

[00:08:06] starts early in the morning around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. and then goes all the way till about three o’clock I am the last

[00:08:13] speaker there and I’ll be speaking specifically on the scientific foresight of the Bible also something if you’re

[00:08:20] interested I am now offering coaching and discipleship classes specifically on

[00:08:25] how to share your faith and defend your faith so using apologetics sharing your

[00:08:30] faith on a regular basis in a way where you don’t have to be afraid or feel awkward my goal is to help people become

[00:08:36] comfortable sharing their faith so I want people to whether you’re an introvert or you’re an extrovert I want

[00:08:43] you to be able to find ways to share your faith so rather rather than battle against your personality right and you

[00:08:49] know I know a lot of people they’re very very fearful about when they when they even think about talking to somebody on

[00:08:55] the street about Jesus they just get butterflies in their in their stomach they get nauseous and they they feel

[00:09:02] like maybe they’re gonna throw up and I have friends like this and rather than constantly battle against our

[00:09:09] personality temperament why don’t we instead try to find ways to

[00:09:14] take our god-given gifts and use those to be become more evangelistic to be

[00:09:20] able to share our faith more often so my hope through this coaching and discipleship class is to help you find

[00:09:26] ways that fit with your personality to become more comfortable sharing your

[00:09:32] faith so that you’re not awkward and afraid and I’ve been doing this for quite a while I’ve been teaching about

[00:09:37] this for 12 years to high school students and and I love sharing my faith it’s one of the highlights of my of my

[00:09:44] time and days because I love to see it when it clicks with somebody and they go whoa wow that makes total sense and we

[00:09:53] have some videos on my website showing that if you’re interested in the coaching and discipleship go to my website educate for life so our G and

[00:09:59] the the coaching just starts October 23rd it’s gonna be Tuesday evenings it’s gonna be a live online discipleship

[00:10:06] coaching class with me and we’ll have one hour of discussing and looking at

[00:10:12] your personality temperament and how are you gonna be able to share their faith and then we’ll have question and answer and all that kind of stuff so I hope you

[00:10:19] can check it out again it starts October 23rd it’s going to go for six weeks and

[00:10:24] it’s going to be an hour every Tuesday evening 6 to 7 p.m. they will be recorded too so if you miss a class you

[00:10:30] can you can catch up on it ok so we’re gonna be coming up on a break here but

[00:10:36] what we’re talking about is what evidence do we have that America actually has a Christian and

[00:10:43] judeo-christian heritage so let’s start off with this fact there is no nation

[00:10:49] historically or present-day that has ever been under the same piece of paper as long as America has been under the

[00:10:56] Constitution over 220 years America been under the same Constitution people

[00:11:03] give lots of reasons for that they might say we have a good amendment process whatever the case but this is really

[00:11:10] amazing and it does stand out among the nations of the world why is it that

[00:11:15] America has such a stable government and political system that we have the

[00:11:22] Constitution for so long Brazil has been had seven constitutions since 1822 Poland’s had six

[00:11:28] constitutions since 1921 Afghanistan had five Constitution since 1923 Russia four

[00:11:35] Constitution since 1918 and France even though their Revolution started less than 10 years after Americas they’re on

[00:11:41] their fifteenth constitution and this is normal for nations throughout the world so the question becomes why is America

[00:11:49] so stable what is it about our Constitution or about our founding fathers that has allowed us to have such

[00:11:55] a incredibly reliable document to govern our nation we’re coming up on a quick

[00:12:01] break here so but then when we come back I’m going to talk about this we’re going to get into the details of what it is

[00:12:07] that makes our Constitution so so reliable and so stable stay with me I’ll

[00:14:41] starting next week every Friday at 12:30 the show will be streaming on Facebook and so love to have you tuned in we are

[00:14:49] talking about America and whether it has a Christian foundation or not you know I was up at the Mount Soledad cross back

[00:14:55] when there was this big debate over whether it should be up there or not and I got into a discussion with a woman by

[00:15:02] the name of Debbie Allen at the time she was the president of the San Diego coalition of Reason and she was arguing

[00:15:07] that America was not founded on Christian principles and even if many

[00:15:12] people even if you could establish that it was founded on Christian principles they would say well it doesn’t need to be that way anymore and so the question

[00:15:19] is is what argument can we bring to bear that demonstrates that we need to keep Christianity as the philosophical

[00:15:26] foundation of our country why not have atheism right a lot of people say well we should be neutral not the agnostic

[00:15:34] means you don’t know right so a lot of people choose agnostic what they say is basically hey I don’t know let’s just be

[00:15:41] neutral let’s have no philosophical foundation but no philosophical foundation is a philosophical foundation

[00:15:47] it’s the philosophical foundation of atheism or agnosticism so you there’s really no neutral place here it’s not as

[00:15:53] if you can you can pursue neutrality you have to have a philosophical foundation

[00:15:58] if it’s if it’s not Buddhism right if it’s not Islam if it’s not Hinduism if

[00:16:04] it’s not Christianity well it’s going to be atheism or agnosticism which is a

[00:16:10] philosophical foundation in an itself so alexis de tocqueville he was a

[00:16:16] French political leader and historian he traveled America in 1831 he wrote a book called democracy in America and he’s

[00:16:23] where this idea of American exceptionalism comes from because he he’s famous for a quote where he said

[00:16:30] the position of the Americans is quite exceptional now in some senses he was derogatory towards America he didn’t

[00:16:37] always have good things to say about America but he did say that America is in a very unique and special position

[00:16:44] because of its founding because of the fact that the founding fathers had a lot of history to look at and examine about

[00:16:52] what worked and what didn’t work so America is exceptional now that doesn’t

[00:16:58] mean that America is technically right looking down its nose at other countries

[00:17:03] and saying hey we’re exceptional and you’re not that’s not the point the point is that America has a unique

[00:17:10] situation and it has a unique amount of blessings most people today would say that and and this is a quote from an

[00:17:17] atheist Bill Nye right when he was debating he

[00:17:22] has a YouTube video and in it he says something really interesting he says that a most of the scientific accomplishments in the world today most

[00:17:29] of the scientific discoveries and the progress that has made come from America

[00:17:35] now I find it interesting because in that video he’s he’s being negative towards Christianity and creation and

[00:17:42] the idea of creation science and so forth but then he goes on to say hey we

[00:17:48] have more people in the world that believe in creation than any other place in the world and then he also says we

[00:17:54] also have more of the scientific discoveries in the world now of course he would say that’s not a result of our

[00:17:59] belief in scientific creation but I would say actually that it is our judeo-christian heritage the fact that

[00:18:05] we have so many people that take the Bible at its word is actually what gives us our blessings our success our

[00:18:11] benefits and if if that case if the case can be made for that then we have a good solid argument for why we should

[00:18:19] continue to have Christianity as the philosophical foundation of our culture of our politics of

[00:18:26] all the important issues in our in our country why should that cross down Mount Soledad well because that cross

[00:18:33] represents where we get a lot of our ideas a lot of our morality and a lot of

[00:18:39] our blessings and so the United States Constitution was written in 1787 it was

[00:18:45] ratified in 1788 and it’s been in operation since 1789 according to the

[00:18:51] senate.gov website the United States Constitution is the world’s longest surviving written charter of government

[00:18:59] that’s incredible right so it was ratified by the required nine states by 1788 went into effect the following year

[00:19:07] superseding the Articles of Confederation so why has our Constitution done so well it’s got a lot

[00:19:15] of very very original ideas so for example one of them is unalienable rights that is part of our declaration

[00:19:24] but where does this idea of unalienable rights come from rights that cannot be alienated meaning they cannot be

[00:19:30] separated from the person that’s a big deal where where did this come from

[00:19:36] no king would ever say hey I’m gonna give you rights that nobody can take away and so according to the Declaration

[00:19:44] they were given to us by God another very very strange thing in our Constitution is consent of the governed

[00:19:50] right it’s government by the people for the people but what king would ever decide I’m

[00:19:56] going to not govern you unless I have your consent to be governed that’s a

[00:20:02] very strange idea and then of course we have separation of powers but what king would actually want to separate power

[00:20:09] meaning what king is gonna say I don’t I don’t want all the power let me let me

[00:20:15] give some of the power back why would a person do something like this these ideas are very unique to our

[00:20:21] Constitution to our declaration to our form of government they’re very valuable but where do these ideas come from now

[00:20:29] Founding Fathers one of the guys that the founding fathers praised more than any other is a guy by the name of John Locke right now there was a john locke

[00:20:36] on the show lost for a while that’s not who I’m referencing referencing somebody else right he lived

[00:20:42] from 1632 to 1704 and he was an attorney in Great Britain he wrote the

[00:20:47] constitution of Carolina he was a theologian he compiled a topical Bible now topical Bible if you don’t know

[00:20:54] write a topical Bible is simply a Bible that that organizes the subject matter into topic so if you want to look up

[00:21:01] love it has all the reference references to love if you want to look up grace it has all the verses in order and grace

[00:21:06] whatever it might be he wrote a topical Bible this this guy was not some you know Christian you know

[00:21:14] just a Pew sitting a seat warming Christian he he wrote his own topical Bible that’s incredible he wrote the

[00:21:21] verse by verse commentary on Paul’s epistles he wrote a verse by verse commentary and basically all he went was

[00:21:27] through all Paul’s letters he looked at it and told people what it meant that’s what a commentary is if you don’t know and and this is significant because John

[00:21:36] Locke is considered the father of almost all of Western civilization if founding fathers consistently looked up to this

[00:21:42] guy and it’s important to know who this guy was and where he was getting his ideas from because wherever he got his

[00:21:51] ideas from is where our Constitution in our declaration came from to a large degree and my favorite thing about John

[00:21:59] Locke is that he was an apologist he actually defended the Bible that was a big part of what he did he wrote two

[00:22:05] books called the reasonableness of Christianity in which he argues I’ve read one of them he in which he argues

[00:22:13] why Christianity is so reasonable it’s interesting what he was dealing with at the time when he was arguing for the

[00:22:20] reasonableness of Christianity but he was essentially saying that Christianity makes complete sense because he said we

[00:22:29] all are sinners we’ve made mistakes God is just he is moral he has to punish sin

[00:22:37] and therefore Christ dying on the cross for our sins makes perfect sense right

[00:22:43] I’ve talked to some skeptics down at the beach or at Balboa Park or wherever I’ve been talking to people and some people

[00:22:49] say that makes no sense that somebody else would have to pay for my sins right uh-huh well that’s the whole point

[00:22:55] of mercy and grace isn’t it that Christ was good enough and loving enough to pay

[00:23:01] for our sins even though we don’t deserve it that’s what Christ gave us and John Locke talks all about this in

[00:23:08] his books that the reasonableness of Christianity now according to the

[00:23:15] founding fathers the source that most influenced the Declaration of Independence was John Locke’s book the

[00:23:21] two treatises of government Richard Henry Lee actually claimed that the

[00:23:26] Declaration of Independence was copied from John Locke’s book now you’re gonna be amazed when I tell you how many times

[00:23:34] John Locke’s references scripture in his book the two treatises of government I were coming up on a break here so when I

[00:23:41] get back I’ll tell you this is this is mind-blowing how often John Locke references the scriptures and Richard

[00:23:47] Henry Lee says our Declaration was copied from this book by John Locke okay

[00:26:10] ministry is specifically dedicated to helping people defend their Christian faith and share their faith that’s what

[00:26:16] I that’s what I do all day long I teach 12 I’ve been teaching for 12 years I teach seniors now over at

[00:26:23] Christian High School in El Cajon and I teach young people how to defend their faith and how to have a vibrant faith my

[00:26:30] hope and my goal is to help people be able to navigate the potholes in life

[00:26:36] right the things that that the sin that so easily entangles and overcome those

[00:26:42] things so that they can be better at sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others the whole point of apologetics which comes from a Greek

[00:26:48] word meaning defend is to be able to defend the truth of Christianity but if you can’t if if you can’t defend the

[00:26:56] Bible right then it’s gonna be difficult to share the truth of God’s Word because there’s a lot of skeptics in society today there’s a lot of people pushing

[00:27:02] back against the truth of God’s Word if you’re interested in taking taking your walk with God to a different level a new

[00:27:08] level a higher level you want to get engaged in the game I’m offering a coaching a discipleship class it’s six

[00:27:14] weeks one hour per week 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays starting October 23rd just go

[00:27:20] to my website educate for life dot o RG and you can sign up for the coaching

[00:27:25] class and I’d love to have you join us and strengthen your faith and not my

[00:27:30] guarantee to you is that you you will share your faith at least one time with somebody without feeling awkward or

[00:27:36] afraid maybe you’ll feel a little bit nervous but you will be able to share

[00:27:41] your faith with somebody I will teach you how to do that in a way that you are comfortable with so please check that

[00:27:48] out if you get a chance I love to have you join us I’m also speaking at the national apologetics conference up at

[00:27:54] South Bay Calvary Chapel up in LA on October 13th that’s with dr. Stephen

[00:28:01] Meyer and Veritas International and University so I love to have you out at that that’s going to be a great

[00:28:07] opportunity also to strengthen your faith and learn how to defend your faith all kinds of amazing speakers are going

[00:28:13] to be out there so what we’re talking about today is was America founded on Christian

[00:28:20] principles now you might ask yourself hey how is that on apologetics topic what what is that why should I care

[00:28:26] about that from an apologetic perspective well here’s why the Bible says blessed is the nation whose God is

[00:28:32] the Lord now that’s a that is a propositional claim the claim is that a nation that makes Yahweh their God is

[00:28:39] going to be blessed blessed is the nation whose God is Lord you know that also the Bible also says righteousness

[00:28:44] exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people now that that’s a loaded

[00:28:50] statement right there loaded propositional claim what it’s saying is is that righteousness as defined by

[00:28:57] Yahweh exalts a nation so if you follow

[00:29:03] the principles outlined in Scripture that God has decided is what qualifies

[00:29:08] as righteous then your nation will be exalted but if you go into sin as he

[00:29:15] defines it as Yahweh defines it then you

[00:29:20] will you will be in trouble you your nation essentially will suffer and I would argue that that’s exactly what

[00:29:26] we’ve seen in our country that the fact that we are approaching or maybe even

[00:29:31] over now twenty trillion dollars in debt as a country is a direct relationship

[00:29:37] with our values being shredded over time

[00:29:44] in 1960 in in 1962 prayer was taken out

[00:29:49] of schools in 1963 the Bible was removed from public schools in 1968 evolution

[00:29:56] was mandated in public schools and so in 1973 abortion was legalized nationally

[00:30:05] and and then you have all these this domino effect in 1970 no-fault divorce

[00:30:10] was legalized so what we’re doing is we’re reaping the repercussions of pushing God out of the schools

[00:30:16] right the primary place where our kids get educated is in the schools and this brings us back to today’s topic the

[00:30:23] topic we’re talking about today is that in Texas there’s a reference to Moses in the social studies textbooks and the

[00:30:29] high school textbooks and a group of people are saying we want more is taken out of that that textbook well

[00:30:34] depending on whether we keep Moses in or we take Moses out has an impact right

[00:30:40] righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord so we have

[00:30:46] to make a decision here whether we’re gonna fight to keep Moses in in the textbooks or not is it worth the fight

[00:30:53] and I would say absolutely it is there’s no doubt about it the evidence is overwhelming the clear that that’s the

[00:30:59] case so anyway let’s pick up where I left off from the last one I was telling

[00:31:06] you about John Locke he wrote a book called the two treatises of government and Richard Henry Lee said the Declaration of Independence was copied

[00:31:12] from that book in that four hundred page book Locke refers to the Bible 1500 times

[00:31:17] that’s almost three to four times per page that John Locke refers to the Bible

[00:31:23] in this four hundred page book and that book is the book that most influenced

[00:31:28] the Declaration so right there that is a a fact that we are influenced we have a

[00:31:35] philosophical foundation of biblical values of biblical principles a biblical

[00:31:42] thought and that’s not all the University of Houston did a study all the way back in 1984 and what they did

[00:31:49] was to two guys political scientist Donald Lutz and cha-cha Hyneman these

[00:31:54] two guys got 15,000 items of American political commentary and published they

[00:32:00] were published between 1760 and 1805 so what they did was they gathered all this this information 15,000 writings and

[00:32:07] they wanted to analyze these writings and say what is the sources that the

[00:32:12] Founding Fathers quoted okay so you’ve got these founding fathers they’re um

[00:32:18] where are they getting their ideas from to build the Constitution so what these two guys did was they took the 15,000

[00:32:24] writings and they examined who and what was being quoted they they research for

[00:32:30] ten years and they were able to isolate 3154 direct quotes so they

[00:32:38] they were able to take direct quotes and isolate them and find out exactly where they were coming from so when they they

[00:32:49] then compiled this information in a book called the origins of American constitutionalism and here’s what they

[00:32:55] found the single individuals quoted most often by the founding fathers where Charles

[00:33:01] Montesquieu he was quoted at 8.3% William Blackstone was quoted at 7.9%

[00:33:10] and John Locke was quoted 2.9% these three guys were the guys that were quoted more often than any other any

[00:33:18] other source but the source quoted more often the most often was the Bible 34%

[00:33:25] of the founders quotes came directly out of the Bible now this is hard to even imagine but one of every three quotes

[00:33:31] that they were able to isolate came directly from the Bible that the founding fathers were quoting

[00:33:37] I think it’s hard for us to understand how much the Bible filled these guys minds you know the Bible says meditate

[00:33:45] on God’s law day and night so that you may be prosperous and successful and

[00:33:50] these guys didn’t have the distractions that we have we have so many distractions we have things like

[00:33:57] Facebook we have tons of social media we have professional sports we have

[00:34:03] numerous opportunities to be entertained video games and movies and all this

[00:34:10] stuff they didn’t have any of this stuff right they didn’t have video games they had no social media they didn’t they

[00:34:17] couldn’t go to the movies they didn’t have professional sports like we have today no TV and so what do these guys do

[00:34:24] with their time well a lot of them spend a lot of time writing and reading that

[00:34:30] was a big part of what they did and so you have guys that are memorizing huge portions of Scripture and so they’re

[00:34:36] taking in all that scripture and when they’re putting the founding of the country together when they’re putting together our Constitution and our

[00:34:43] declaration they’re pulling from that vast amount of knowledge about the scriptures right these guys all came

[00:34:49] from Christian backgrounds every single guy that signed the Declaration was a

[00:34:55] part of a Christian denomination except for maybe two or three who were quote

[00:35:01] nondenominational but still if you were to look at them today you would consider them hey very much on the Christian side

[00:35:08] maybe they weren’t all come the two or three weren’t completely Orthodox but for the most part these guys all

[00:35:14] supported the truth of God’s Word and we’re coming up on another break here I have one more segment left stick with me

[00:35:20] I’m going to give you a few more evidences that just show how true it is that our country was founded on

[00:35:25] Christian principles and the Bible I’m gonna be right back thanks for being

[00:37:28] you have friends that you think hey they’d be interested in this or they it’d be worth their time to listen to this show maybe there are skeptics about

[00:37:35] the Bible maybe maybe they have questions about the Bible feel free to have them watch the show and they can

[00:37:41] they can write comments they can send questions email me questions or text me questions I love to get that stuff and I

[00:37:48] love to have conversations with people about God in the Bible because it’s a critically important subject we need to

[00:37:55] know what is going to happen after we die that’s an important question I mean is Budda Budda right is is Muhammad

[00:38:01] right is Charles Darwin right who’s right out of all these different people

[00:38:07] who have told us or tried to answer questions the big questions about life

[00:38:12] what is the meaning of life why am I here where am I going when I die you know what am i worth all very very

[00:38:18] important questions I’m going to be having a coaching series coaching a discipleship class it’s online it’s

[00:38:24] going to be live starting October 23rd if you want to check it out I found that

[00:38:29] more than anything the best way to be able to become more comfortable sharing

[00:38:34] your faith and defending your faith is through discipleship you know that’s what Jesus did with the 12 disciples for

[00:38:40] three years it was discipleship and so you know listen to a radio programs great and watching a video is great but

[00:38:46] when it comes right down to it I think the best thing we can do is build relationships with one another in which

[00:38:52] we we are being discipled and we are disciple in others and so my goal

[00:38:57] through this coaching program is to impart some of the knowledge and wisdom

[00:39:03] that God has given me to help you get more comfortable sharing your faith not being afraid to share your faith and

[00:39:10] looking at your personality everybody’s got a different personality right if you’ve ever taken one of the personality

[00:39:16] tests like Myer Briggs or or whatever or the one where they classify you as like a lion or an otter or a golden retriever

[00:39:24] they give you these different class classifications and we all have different temperaments we all have

[00:39:29] different gifts God has given us and what we want to do is adapt our evangelism to our personality

[00:39:36] temperament there’s not one way to share the gospel there are many ways to share the gospel it you don’t just have to go

[00:39:42] down to the beach and and meet people for me that’s I’m very comfortable doing that I love doing it and I love being

[00:39:49] down there giving people hotdogs and water and we’re actually doing that tomorrow 10:00 to 12:00 down at Mission

[00:39:54] Beach but I love doing that but not everybody’s comfortable going out and talking to people like that so what we

[00:40:02] want to do is establish ways to help everybody find a niche in which they can share the gospel if we’re all playing

[00:40:08] that part as the body of Christ we’re going to get the word out and we’re going to be able to love people a lot more effectively than if we’re all right

[00:40:15] you don’t want to you don’t want an otter trying to be a lion or a lion trying to be a golden retriever let’s all be who God designed us to be

[00:40:22] and then fulfill fulfill the master plan of evangelism the Great Commission

[00:40:29] through the personality temperaments that we have so today what I’m talking

[00:40:34] about is was our our country founded on Christian principles and we’ve just established two amazing evidences that

[00:40:40] our country truly was founded on Christian principles the first one I established was that Richard Henry Lee

[00:40:46] said the Declaration of Independence was copied from John Locke’s book the two

[00:40:51] treatises of government and John Locke’s book the two treatises of governments fifteen hundred page book references the

[00:40:58] Bible 1500 times as three to three to four times per page that John Locke

[00:41:03] references the Bible as the source of his principles for government so that’s

[00:41:09] the first evidence I’ve given you the second evidence of a give I given you was the University of Houston study in

[00:41:15] which two gentlemen were able to isolate

[00:41:21] 3154 direct quotes from the founding fathers and analyze where those quotes

[00:41:26] were drawn from and what they found political scientist Donald Lutz and Chuck Charles Hyneman

[00:41:32] were able to find out that Charles Montesquieu was quoted eight point three percent of the time William Blackstone

[00:41:38] seven point nine at the time John Locke 2.9 percent of the time and the Bible was quoted 34

[00:41:44] percent of the time one of every three quotes was directly from the Bible now

[00:41:49] here’s what’s also really cool about this is that those three guys that are quoted most often those three individuals all three of them were

[00:41:55] Christians William Blackstone his legal writings were the primary source for law

[00:42:01] in early American history he was a very strong Christian Charles Finney he was

[00:42:08] one of the most famous ant evangelists during the second rate of weighty awakening he said that he was going to

[00:42:14] school to study law he read so much of the Bible in William Blackstone’s writings that he ended up

[00:42:21] becoming a Christian and a preacher instead of a lawyer is that just tells you how much William Blackstone referred

[00:42:27] to the Bible in his own writings and so you know the next time somebody says to

[00:42:32] you hey our country wasn’t founded on Christian principles or our country was not founded on biblical values our laws

[00:42:39] are not established on biblical values you can say back to them you can give them these two evidences you know we

[00:42:46] don’t want to just have a screaming contest who can yell the loudest the country was founded on Christian

[00:42:51] principles that the country was not founded on Christian principles we’re nets gonna have a screaming contest back and forth what we want to actually do is

[00:42:58] provide evidence for the truth right and so when we provide the evidence for the truth then that helps people open their

[00:43:05] eyes and see hey wait a second I better take a second look at this and I’ve got

[00:43:11] a few minutes left here before I have to wrap up but here’s a couple laws that

[00:43:16] are actually drawn directly from the Bible this is article 1 section 8 in the Constitution on uniform immigration laws

[00:43:22] it’s actually taken from Leviticus 1934 it says the alien living with you must must be treated as one of your

[00:43:28] native-born love him as yourself for you were aliens in Egypt I am the Lord your God now interestingly here the American

[00:43:37] law says to treat somebody come in an immigrant can actually come in and become a full citizen not all countries

[00:43:44] allow this right you can’t go to China and become a full citizen of China you can’t go to many countries around the

[00:43:50] world and become a full citizen with all the rights that come with citizenship but in America you can now of course we have a

[00:43:57] big battle on immigration right now and we want we want good healthy immigration

[00:44:03] we don’t want illegal immigration we want immigration that’s following the rule of law and having people come into

[00:44:09] the country become citizens in an organized and orderly way that’s very important but the amazing thing again

[00:44:15] about America is that it supports immigration and why because of the Bible love the alien as yourself for your

[00:44:24] aliens in Egypt I am the Lord your God absolutely phenomenal now there’s only one thing that a that an immigrant

[00:44:32] cannot do and that has become president the president according to article 2 section 1 in the Constitution the

[00:44:38] President must be a natural-born citizen now where did they get that idea from well amazingly in Deuteronomy 1715 this

[00:44:45] is what it says be sure to appoint over you the king the Lord your God chooses he must be from among your own brothers

[00:44:52] do not place a foreigner over you one who is not a brother Israelite so just like in the Bible where an immigrant

[00:44:59] could have full citizenship could could become completely a part of Jewish culture in America any immigrant from

[00:45:07] any country can become a complete full citizen but they can’t do one thing they can’t be a president and that’s because

[00:45:14] our founding fathers said you know what this Bible this is true this is a solid

[00:45:20] book we want to base our country off the principles the laws the guidelines that

[00:45:26] are in the scriptures and that’s exactly what they did and so you know the Bible says blessed

[00:45:34] is the nation whose God is the Lord it says righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people so

[00:45:42] that’s what we want so when in Texas they’re having a big argument right now over whether Moses should be in the

[00:45:47] social studies textbooks or not absolutely he should and it’s a sad fact

[00:45:53] that people aren’t being taught about our judeo-christian heritage you know if you’re a teacher out there if your administrator out there if you’re if you

[00:45:59] have some sort of influence in this school the schools of America we need

[00:46:05] kids to learn about our heritage our judeo-christian heritage they need to know how the Bible

[00:46:12] influenced our culture and continues to influence our culture we haven’t lost

[00:46:18] that influence you know that you know a lot of people say America is going

[00:46:23] downhill and we’re losing ground there’s a lot of really great things happening right now you know it looks like we’re

[00:46:29] gonna have a new Supreme Court justice that’s got biblical values here soon

[00:46:35] thank the Lord and we’ve got all kinds of good things happening you know God

[00:46:41] Jesus Christ discipled 12 people and those 12 people changed the whole world

[00:46:47] the world has radically changed because of the influence of 12 disciples of

[00:46:53] Christ twelve imperfect people and so you know we have 75 percent of people in

[00:46:58] America claim to be Christian we are not even close to beyond hope and so there is never a time you’re beyond hope when

[00:47:05] when you’ve got God on your side the point is is that we want to be on God’s side and so what we have to do is

[00:47:13] continually look at ourselves look at our lives and look at the decisions we’re making and saying hey are my decisions active

[00:47:19] decisions that are supported by what the Bible says so we want to know the Word of God hey so I hope you’ve enjoyed the

[00:47:25] show today and this will be up on our YouTube channel not too long from now it’ll also be on our website if you want
