Kavanaugh - Qualified to Serve?
In this episode of The Educate for Life Podcast, we step into a timely cultural question through a biblical worldview lens: “Kavanaugh — Qualified to Serve?” With Christian education, apologetics, and discipleship in mind, host Kevin Conover explores how believers should think about leadership, moral failure, and public accountability in an age of instant outrage and digital transparency. Whether you’re a parent, homeschool educator, or student trying to connect faith and civic life, this conversation helps you practice wise, Christ-centered judgment.
Sorting Through the Controversy with a Biblical Lens
Kevin unpacks the heated Supreme Court confirmation moment surrounding Brett Kavanaugh and uses it as a case study for something bigger: How should Christians evaluate leaders when accusations, past sins, or public scandals surface? Drawing from Scripture and history, the episode challenges listeners to avoid double standards and to recognize the difference between unproven allegations, real moral failures, and the direction a leader steers a nation or community.
Instead of reacting with the culture’s default of “cancel or crown,” Kevin calls believers to think in categories Scripture gives us—justice, mercy, repentance, and fruit. He highlights how technology has changed society: what once stayed hidden can now be unearthed in hours. That reality can push Christians toward either cynicism or clarity. The goal here is clarity: evaluating claims fairly, refusing partisan hypocrisy, and remembering that God’s standards are high and His mercy is real.
Kevin also raises a hard but practical discipleship question: Is a person automatically disqualified from public service because of past sin? The episode doesn’t excuse wrongdoing, but it does remind Christians that redemption and restoration are central to the gospel. If we can believe God forgives and transforms sinners, we should be careful about acting as though no one with a past can serve with integrity in the present.
Key Takeaways
- Why Christians must reject cultural double standards and pursue biblical justice with compassion
- The difference between judging evidence and judging people—and why both require humility
- How mercy and accountability work together in Scripture (not against each other)
- What leadership “qualification” looks like when viewed through Christian apologetics and ethics
- Why disengaging from civic responsibility can quietly empower greater evil

Judge Bret Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault during the recent Congressional Supreme Court confirmation hearing. How can a Christian support someone like Bret Kavanaugh with a charge like this against him? Wouldn’t that be hypocritical or at the very least a horrible double standard?
Today on Educate For Life Kevin will talk about how supporting Kavanaugh or someone like Trump doesn’t mean compromising your values or having to live by a double standard. Christians are often called out because of their support for leaders who don’t fully live up to Christian values. They are often called hypocrites, but is this really the case?

How We Can Help You
At Educate for Life, we’re committed to equipping families to think biblically about real-world issues—especially the ones that stir fear, confusion, or division. Episodes like this connect directly to our mission of building courageous disciples who can engage culture with truth and grace. If you’re teaching teens or guiding younger kids, our Comprehensive Biblical Worldview Curriculum helps students form convictions rooted in Scripture rather than social media soundbites.
You’ll also find practical resources in our Christian Apologetics Courses that train believers to evaluate arguments fairly, spot logical fallacies, and respond winsomely in public conversations. And for parents who want to shape civic thinking without drifting into tribal politics, Blessed Is the Nation (Course 400) provides a faith-and-culture foundation for understanding government, morality, and Christian responsibility.
Here’s a short excerpt from the episode:
- “We’ve got to look through these issues using a biblical lens… not just whatever the culture is shouting today.”
- “The real question is: does a past moral failing automatically disqualify someone from serving?”
- “Mercy triumphs over judgment. We all need forgiveness—every one of us.”
- “If the standard is perfection, none of us could lead—or even speak.”
- “Christ didn’t discard sinners. He restored them… and called them to serve.”

[00:02:15] for being here my website is educate for life dot o RG and if you would like a list of the five best arguments for the
[00:02:21] existence of God please email me at info at educate for life dot o-r-g I love to
[00:02:28] have helped you out and give you some resources that you can share with your friends I wanted to start off by reading
[00:02:33] an article this is from The Daily wire by Joseph curl I thought it was really appropriate you know we’ve been we’ve been talking about kavanah and the whole
[00:02:40] thing that’s going on we’ve also been talking about hey was our country founded on Christian principles we’re
[00:02:45] dealing with all this stuff that’s happening right now and and there’s a lot of biblical input into what we’re
[00:02:52] dealing with and I think it’s really important that we look through these issues using a biblical lens and I
[00:02:57] wanted to start off by reading this this is an accusation from Juanita Broderick
[00:03:03] she’s accusing the Democrats that have been going after kavanah and his past
[00:03:09] from 36 years ago and so forth of a double standard and if you remember who
[00:03:15] won Nita Broderick is she’s the one that accused Bill Clinton of of actually raping her and this is what she says she
[00:03:24] says this is the biggest double standard I’ve ever seen and Joseph Karl writes
[00:03:29] about this he says Broderick addressed the media outside the Senate building where Cavanaugh’s Judiciary Committee hearing was set to take place
[00:03:36] she said the accusation accusations from mrs. Ford who claims Kavanaugh sexually
[00:03:41] sawed her in 1982 at a high-school party is no comparison to what happened to her and then she goes on to talk about what
[00:03:49] happened between her and Bill Clinton and she says I have 20 times the evidence that Ford has against kavanah
[00:03:55] and yet nothing happened she said she was totally ignored when she broke came forward with this she had told more than
[00:04:02] 20 different women she wanted to testify all kinds of stuff that she had against Clinton Clinton that he actually
[00:04:08] physically did what he did and she says
[00:04:13] here it’s not that I’ve decided that Ford has no evidence it’s just that she
[00:04:19] hasn’t presented and she says you know this is a horrible double standard and so I wanted to bring
[00:04:26] this up because this is used frequently in discussions that a person is not able
[00:04:31] to run for office because of either something that has been alleged or something that has actually happened so
[00:04:39] you know when I was when we were looking at Trump and the election process him
[00:04:44] being voted I had a lot of Christians actually say that on principle they couldn’t vote for Trump because he had
[00:04:51] so many moral failings that it wasn’t appropriate to vote for them and so for him so on principle he didn’t vote now
[00:04:58] that turns in many people think there was somewhere around 40 million Christians that did not vote in the
[00:05:06] election because they felt that that Trump had moral failings and therefore they couldn’t vote for him and so I have
[00:05:13] some questions about that is it better to have a person who has a lot of moral
[00:05:19] failings but directs the country in the right direction or is it better to have a person who doesn’t how have a lot of
[00:05:25] known moral failings but steers the country in the wrong direction and this really applies also not just to
[00:05:31] political issues but it applies in the church as well so when we look at the situation in the church what’s happening
[00:05:38] in our culture today is that a lot of the I guess moral failings the sins that
[00:05:44] used to happen behind closed doors that that weren’t discovered because of the
[00:05:49] internet and because of social media it’s a lot harder to hide your activity
[00:05:54] and because the computers are now recording everything that happens everywhere you go every word you say you
[00:06:01] can easily slip up in what you say and and show some of your your your
[00:06:07] stereotypes or your prejudices and these can come out and people have faced the consequences for that they say a word
[00:06:13] that they didn’t intend to say but it’s their true feelings and so what ends up happening is what’s happening is people
[00:06:19] are becoming known for who they actually are and you know it I would I wouldn’t
[00:06:27] say that people weren’t the way they always were but I would say that what’s happening is involuntarily we are
[00:06:34] becoming a society that’s very transparent the culture is becoming much more transparent simply because you can
[00:06:40] no longer hide anymore and what might have been done in secrecy is now on being brought to the surface
[00:06:46] and so the question I guess is how do you deal with that as a pastor who’s running a church as a volunteer in a
[00:06:53] church as a Christian in culture how do you respond to these leaders that they
[00:06:59] they go to run for political office and all of a sudden their entire life story is brought up I mean there is no way
[00:07:05] that you know in the past if you had a Supreme Court potential justice who’s
[00:07:11] running who wants to be confirmed to the US Supreme Court you couldn’t have done what they’re doing to Cavanaugh today to
[00:07:19] be able to find all his his classmates to be able to find the ones reference the parties and to do it is so rapidly
[00:07:25] to find these people so rapidly this is only made possible because of the internet because of the resources that
[00:07:31] are now now available through technology and so what’s happening is is for a lot
[00:07:36] of Christians this there’s thrown them into confusion because they’re thinking of themselves well you know what is it
[00:07:42] right that’s somebody now I don’t believe that kavanah actually did what what Ford is saying it doesn’t seem to
[00:07:49] me that the evidence is very persuasive but let’s say that did happen and it was
[00:07:54] 36 years ago he was 17 she was 15 and the question then becomes does that
[00:08:00] disqualify him for confirmation now I know the gut reaction the immediate reaction the emotional reaction is
[00:08:06] immediately yes he’s disqualified he had a mortal failing it’s significant enough and he is disqualified you know
[00:08:12] Ben Carson came out and said look it here’s the deal the kind of just
[00:08:19] gauntlet that Cavanaugh has had to go through is going to discourage other Christians and other good people from
[00:08:26] running for office so so Cavanaugh you know his his his life has been
[00:08:33] essentially destroyed if he’s not confirmed to the Supreme Court justice he said he made a statement I love
[00:08:39] coaching my kids sports teams I’ll never be able to coach again I’ll never be able to you know be around a woman with
[00:08:47] having this prejudice against me and so it’s really affecting him all these allegations even if they’re not true
[00:08:54] it’s affecting him and so it’s gonna affect his ability to volunteer in church or to be an elder in church or
[00:09:00] whatever it might be and so the question is is should that be the case I think we
[00:09:06] have to think long and hard about biblically what is the Bible advocate
[00:09:13] for moral failings and how does that influence our life what happens from
[00:09:18] here on out if a person has had a moral failing how does it influence their role in the church how does it influence
[00:09:24] their role in politics are they all of a sudden disqualified from being able to give an opinion on a subject in which
[00:09:30] they’ve had a moral failing this is a very significant issue because Ben Carson said look at and many people have
[00:09:36] said this if this is gonna be the the criteria by which we determine whether somebody can get involved in politics or
[00:09:44] whatever then you’re gonna have all these good people backing out and backing down now interestingly it’s a
[00:09:49] double standard those are typically on the Left do not have a problem with a
[00:09:55] person having moral failings and advancing them into political positions
[00:10:00] by and large that’s not nearly as strong of a situation so we have the other side
[00:10:07] as conservatives we have the other side holding us to a standard that’s far
[00:10:12] higher than the standard that’s held to them and so what you end up with a lot of people that don’t feel like hey I can run for political office because I’ve
[00:10:19] made mistakes I’ve had failings and so let’s talk about this biblically we’re
[00:10:26] coming up on a break not too far here but before we get too far in I wanted to let you know about October 13th it’s the

[00:11:24] well known apologist defender of the the Word of God as well as myself I’m going to be speaking up there I’ll be speaking
[00:11:29] on the scientific foresight of the Bible meant there’s many references to scientific to science in the Bible that

[00:14:26] broadcasting and recording on YouTube on Facebook all over the place so please
[00:14:32] share our broadcast with others and right now what we’re talking about is kavanah and the kind of a double
[00:14:38] standard biblically we want to look at this from a biblical perspective and I wanted to share some scripture that is
[00:14:45] relevant to this situation if we look at James chapter 2 verse 13 it says this
[00:14:52] speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom for judgment without mercy will be shown
[00:14:59] to anyone who has not been merciful mercy triumphs over judgment the fact of
[00:15:04] the matter is is that we all need mercy we all need to be forgiven our sins some
[00:15:10] people’s sins are more offensive more blatant and more damaging than others but the fact of the matter is is that in
[00:15:16] the sight of God the Bible says that our righteousness is as filthy rags so what you end up with is it doesn’t matter
[00:15:22] whether you’re Billy Graham or whether you’re the person on the third yard of a
[00:15:27] state prison guilty of murder the fact of the matter is is that we all need mercy and in
[00:15:33] God’s eyes the most righteous person doesn’t even matter if you’re Mother Teresa that righteousness is as filthy
[00:15:39] rags compared to the standard of God and you know Billy Graham said something really interesting he said he said if
[00:15:46] you knew what I’d done you wouldn’t be listening to me but if I knew what you done I wouldn’t be preaching to you and
[00:15:53] that’s well said in my opinion because the fact of the matter is is we got to
[00:15:59] get over this idea of more perfection is that the standard is that
[00:16:05] what God is looking for from a follower of Christ is mortal perfection is that the highest goal I don’t think it is I
[00:16:12] think God’s highest goal his highest standard is a relationship a love relationship with a person because that
[00:16:18] love relationship is what actually affects change Christ said something
[00:16:24] very interesting he said he who is forgiven much loves much he who is forgiven little loves little and the
[00:16:32] emphasis here was on the love the fact that somebody who recognizes how
[00:16:39] wretched they are right Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me that recognizes how wretched
[00:16:46] they are falls more in love with God and is so grateful for what he’s done and what does that love do that love
[00:16:53] translates into a life of loving others of mercy towards others of grace towards
[00:16:58] others of reaching out towards others and so so now that doesn’t mean you need to go out and commit a whole bunch of
[00:17:04] sins so that you can love God more that that’s not the goal either the point is is what we want to do is recognize our
[00:17:13] great need for Christ so that we fall more in love with God so that we can then love others more effectively and in
[00:17:20] order to and when that happens what happens is we begin to recognize that other people need to be shown grace and
[00:17:27] need to have that mercy also I want to read to you the parable of the unmerciful servant again I’m coming back
[00:17:32] to this because of kavanah and the fact of how much he’s been attacked and also Trump honestly because I voted for Trump
[00:17:39] and a lot of people said you can’t vote for Trump based on principle look at all
[00:17:45] the moral failings of this guy I mean they’re all over the place how can you possibly vote for him but the reality is
[00:17:51] is that it doesn’t matter who runs for office they’re a sinner some of their sins are known somewhere unknown some
[00:17:57] are greater sent some have done a lot more since some have done lists lessons but the fact of the matter is is here’s
[00:18:03] my question which is more important to have somebody who is in a position of
[00:18:10] leadership who recognizes the truth of God’s Word who recognizes the
[00:18:15] actions that need to be taken and then commits to doing them even though they
[00:18:21] have moral failings or the person who has no moral failings or no known moral
[00:18:26] failings but doesn’t get get going there’s no there’s no fruit coming from
[00:18:33] the life they live right we have a lot of people that sit in church pews who
[00:18:39] are very very moral or look they look very very moral but the problem is is
[00:18:44] that there’s no fruit coming from their life the way they live we don’t see it
[00:18:51] being produced and therefore which is better which is is it to be somebody who
[00:18:57] has nothing being produced in the life for Christ and no no moral failings or
[00:19:04] somebody who has moral failings but is out there in love with Christ and is moving forward in their life and now
[00:19:11] obviously I’m not saying it’s good to have moral failings but what I am saying is is that a person is not automatically
[00:19:20] disqualified simply because they’ve had moral failings from serving in a government position or from serving
[00:19:27] potentially in certain areas of a church and and so forth of course there are standards that we have the Bible says
[00:19:34] that an elder must be a beyond reproach right his life has got to be a
[00:19:40] reflection of God morally he’s got to be doing those things but listen to this parable in Matthew chapter 18 verse 21
[00:19:47] it says this then Peter said to Jesus and asked Lord how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins
[00:19:53] against me up to seven times and jesus answered I tell you not seven times but seventy-seven times therefore the
[00:20:00] kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants as he began the settlement a
[00:20:06] man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him since he was not able to pay the master ordered that he
[00:20:13] and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repeat repay the debt at this the servant fell on his
[00:20:19] knees before him be patient with me he begged and I will pay back everything the servants master took pity on him
[00:20:26] cancelled the debt and let him go Rob that’s incredible 10,000 bags of gold that is a gigantic
[00:20:32] debt right but when that servant went out he found one of his fellow servants
[00:20:37] who owed him a hundred silver coins he grabbed him and began to choke him pay back what you owe me he demanded his
[00:20:44] fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him be patient with me and I will pay it back but he refused instead he
[00:20:49] went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt when the other servants saw what had happened
[00:20:54] they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened then the master called the servant in you wicked servant he said I
[00:21:01] cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I
[00:21:06] had on you in anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured until he should pay back all he owed
[00:21:13] this is how my Heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart that is a powerful story and I think for
[00:21:22] us it’s a guiding principle to a large degree on how we treat those around us and within the church who have moral
[00:21:28] failings this does not mean that you know we put a Scarlet Letter on their
[00:21:33] forehead and from here on out they are you know condemned to a life of the
[00:21:41] background and never being able to serve in the church or never being able to be
[00:21:46] free from that burden that’s not how Christ was and so another great example
[00:21:52] is the example that Christ set with with Peter Peter did one of the worst things
[00:21:59] you could possibly do which is he denied Christ three times and we look at that situation and Christ knew it was going
[00:22:07] to happen he said after you have been you’ve been through this after you’ve been a sifted Satan has asked to sift you like wheat
[00:22:15] you know you’re gonna come back and you’re gonna you’re gonna serve me and we see that that reconnection between
[00:22:21] Christ and Peter when they meet for the first time after Christ’s resurrection and Christ says feed my sheep feed my
[00:22:30] sheep feed my sheep he wasn’t kicked out of the church he wasn’t treated like a pariah he was told
[00:22:38] feed my sheep if you love me feed my sheep and that’s Peter that is
[00:22:43] literally the guy who sees Asst said I will build my church on the words that
[00:22:48] you spoke that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and so that example set to us by
[00:22:55] Christ and the what happened to Peter there again is another reminder to us that we’re all sinners some people’s
[00:23:02] sins are more apparent they’re more out there and the fact of the matter is is that you know with technology today it’s
[00:23:09] becoming even more people are becoming more aware you know in the past we looked good
[00:23:14] but now what’s happening is we’re looking we’re we’re losing the veneer of perfection and it’s becoming abundantly
[00:23:21] clear that people are not perfect and that that we all fall to sin without the
[00:23:28] proper safety guards in place and so this is important to remember when we’re looking at those in positions of power
[00:23:35] and leadership that we don’t just X them off our list because hey that person
[00:23:40] didn’t live up to my standards of what it means to be that perfect role model especially in our culture today okay

[00:28:04] want to go in there register right away and get them there’s all kinds of content there you can use we talked about creation evolution talk about
[00:28:11] world religions talk about how we know the Bible is actually God’s Word and then we talk about social and cultural
[00:28:17] issues which is what we’re talking about today on the radio that and and what we’re talking about today specifically I
[00:28:24] reference in course 400 which is blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord right that’s a propositional claim
[00:28:30] blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord what does that mean it means that the Bible says that if Yahweh is your
[00:28:36] God if your nation embraces Yahweh that that nation will be blessed okay that’s
[00:28:41] a that’s a truth claim made in the Bible it also says that righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any
[00:28:47] people now again that’s a propositional claim what does it mean it means righteousness as defined by Yahweh in
[00:28:54] the Bible brings a nation up but sin as defined by Yahweh brings a nation down
[00:29:01] and interestingly enough most of our founding fathers actually held this position also this is supreme the very
[00:29:08] first Supreme Court Justice John Jay he was a very very dedicated Christian this is what he said he said Providence and
[00:29:15] at that time Providence meant God Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the
[00:29:21] duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their
[00:29:29] rulers that statement is pretty profound because it says that as Christians it is our obligation to vote for those who
[00:29:38] espouse Jesus Christ who have made him their Lord and Savior and those who who
[00:29:45] promote Christian values and virtues now interestingly enough the question is is
[00:29:50] does a person have to be a perfect Christian to get my vote now I know there’s a lot of people out there who
[00:29:56] say absolutely not we’re all imperfect and they all understand that but there’s also a lot
[00:30:01] of people out there who deliberately do not vote because they believe that to
[00:30:08] vote for the lesser of two evils is still to vote for evil now this is a difficult situation because you know a
[00:30:15] Billy Graham also I’m quoting him here twice now but he said you’re so heavenly minded you’re
[00:30:22] no earthly good and we have to be careful of this we’re not in heaven yet
[00:30:27] so by just default we’re always going to be voting for the lesser of two evils when we’re involved in voting and voting
[00:30:35] is here’s right around the corner you know the fact of the matter is is that we
[00:30:41] have the potential to overturn Roe vs. Wade because of the fact that
[00:30:47] Cavanaugh may get confirmed to the Supreme Court now of course those who are pro-abortion and don’t want to see
[00:30:54] Roe versus Wade overturned they’re trying to prevent Cavanaugh from being confirmed they’re trying to prevent the
[00:31:01] confirmation of a judge until after the election in November because we only have an advantage in the Senate it’s 51
[00:31:08] to 49 we are barely uh we’re holding on by the skin of our teeth as far as
[00:31:13] that’s concerned so if if Cavanaugh does not get confirmed next week right today
[00:31:19] the committee sent him to the Senate and there are I believe two Republican
[00:31:26] senators who are saying they may not vote to confirm Cavanaugh which means if
[00:31:32] Cavanaugh doesn’t get confirmed then there will be no confirmation until after the election and if in the
[00:31:39] election we don’t still hold the Senate let’s say we lose the majority in the Senate then we will not be able to
[00:31:46] confirm a constructive judge who would who is opposed to Roe vs. Wade and so
[00:31:53] your vote matters and if you’re so heavenly minded that you’re no earthly
[00:31:58] good and on principle you decide I don’t want to vote because none of the people here are perfect people then by your
[00:32:07] abstaining from voting you are actually allowing evil to take place and I’ll say
[00:32:12] I’ll hear people say that’s not my fault I did the right thing by not voting I stood by my principles but but by your
[00:32:20] lack of action you’ve actually allowed evil to persist a greater evil to persist and so I would encourage you if
[00:32:27] you’re on the fence about this the Bible says in James he who knows the good he
[00:32:32] ought to do and doesn’t do it sins we have sins of commission and sins of omission a sin of comission is I’ve
[00:32:37] violated some principle moral value of God’s a sin of omission is I didn’t do
[00:32:43] what God asked me to do I didn’t get out there and make a difference I wasn’t salt and light you know deal moody said
[00:32:49] something very profound right a woman came up to him and said hey I don’t like the way you witness I don’t like the way
[00:32:55] you share the gospel and I am I I have this happen every once in a while I if you’ve listened to this
[00:33:01] radio program for any amount of time you know that I love I love Ray Comfort and Ray Comfort he just talks to people and
[00:33:09] basically says look how many lies have you told how many have you ever stolen anything have you ever blaspheme have
[00:33:14] you ever looked at somebody with lust and for a lot of people it’s very you
[00:33:20] know seems very rude you know kind of like why are you asking people about their sins that’s so rude but the fact
[00:33:27] of the matter is is that when you ask people these questions and they confront the reality of the situation
[00:33:33] it makes the gospel very clear because now you recognize your need for a savior
[00:33:38] and so I’ve had a few people say to me oh I do not like the way a Ray Comfort shares the gospel or they’ve said it to
[00:33:44] me I don’t like the way you share the gospel I don’t I’m uncomfortable with that I don’t like that deal moody you know he was similar he said this he said
[00:33:51] this woman came up to him and said look I don’t like the way you share the gospel and he said well do you ever go
[00:33:58] out and share the gospel she said no and he said well I like the way I share the gospel better than the way you don’t share the gospel and so you know for me
[00:34:06] I mean that’s abundantly clear we we cannot I like the way I vote better than
[00:34:11] the way you don’t vote right I like the way I vote for the person for the lesser of two evils better than the way you
[00:34:17] vote for nobody and let the greater evil persist and win and I think that’s
[00:34:24] something we all have to deal with and we live in a fallen world where you have imperfect people and it is the duty of
[00:34:31] our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers but do they have to be perfect Christians no
[00:34:38] they don’t and so when you’re going out to vote in this upcoming election and you’re looking at your different choices
[00:34:43] and you see somebody that has mistakes in their past or or their their mistakes are being broadcast over the Internet
[00:34:49] and you’re seeing their moral failings the Bible is abundantly clear mercy will
[00:34:55] be shown to those who show mercy and with the same way you judge you will be
[00:35:00] judged by my father that’s what Jesus Christ said so we we are all sinners we all lack what we’re
[00:35:08] looking for are people whose heart is in the right place you know a significant question is can can somebody
[00:35:17] who’s addicted to drugs somebody who you let’s say somebody who uses drugs be
[00:35:22] against the legalization of drugs well the obvious answer is yes of course they
[00:35:28] can can can somebody who’s had an abortion be opposed to abortions and
[00:35:35] speak out on the issue yes of course they can can somebody who struggles with
[00:35:41] pornography speak out against pornography well of course they can and
[00:35:47] this is on and on and on a lot of times we are shamed or guilted into silence
[00:35:54] and this is the devil’s trick by the way the devil wants to shame and guilt
[00:35:59] Christians into silence he doesn’t want them running for office he want he doesn’t want them speaking out on issues
[00:36:04] he doesn’t want them volunteering in church he doesn’t want them doing anything and so what he does is he
[00:36:10] shames people to death to where they become inactive and ineffective right he does not want anybody to to volunteer in
[00:36:19] church he wants them so to condemn themselves so much that they don’t even
[00:36:24] feel they’re worthy to step into the church doors but this is this is the devil’s strategy not God’s all we have
[00:36:32] to do again is look at the story of the prodigal son and the father who loved that prodigal son there was never a
[00:36:37] point in that child’s life in that boy’s life where his father wouldn’t have hugged him there was never that it never
[00:36:44] came to that point his father was always going to love him and we’re coming up on a break we have one more segment left
[00:36:50] I’m gonna get a little bit more into what what needs to happen in our country
[00:36:56] for it to continue to turn back to God and also some of the things that that
[00:37:01] the founding fathers said about their relationship with God I’m gonna talk about this because there’s a there’s a
[00:37:07] common attack against the founding fathers that they held that they owned slaves and therefore they’re not worth
[00:37:16] listening to and how they set up the Constitution and Declaration is a problem because of that so we’re gonna
[00:37:22] talk about that well views screams [Music]

[00:39:09] Conover hey if you’re on streaming we’re streaming the program now on my website
[00:39:16] on my facebook page on the EFL Facebook page we’re also streaming it on YouTube and

[00:39:33] YouTube you can go back and watch them I believe we have somewhere around a hundred shows now on our web site with
[00:39:40] all kinds of amazing guests I’ve had an incredible guests on the show that really talk about a lot of the issues
[00:39:47] that are relevant to how do I approach issues from a biblical perspective or how do I defend my Christian faith
[00:39:53] that’s what our websites all about educate for life org it’s meant to be a resource for you to be able to learn how
[00:39:59] to defend your faith I’ve found that the more I know the more answers I have to the questions people have the easier it
[00:40:05] is for me to speak up about issues right and they say that that public speaking is one of the greatest fears for most
[00:40:11] people right up there with the fear of death about 25% of Americans fear
[00:40:18] speaking in front of people as much as death and so how do you diminish that
[00:40:23] fear well one of the ways you diminish the fear is by knowing your topic so the more you are comfortable with the topic
[00:40:29] the more you’re able to talk about it without being afraid and so common sense would it would then draw the conclusion
[00:40:37] that if I know a lot about God’s Word about the issues like evolution and
[00:40:42] creation or about the issue of homosexuality and how to respond to these issues among my peers my
[00:40:49] co-workers my neighbors then I my fear of inviting somebody to church or sharing the gospel goes down down down
[00:40:55] and that’s certainly what I found over time as I’ve learned more about the Word of God and I’m able to defend it
[00:41:01] very easily I am very comfortable with having a conversation impromptu you know
[00:41:06] at a coffee shop or wherever I’m at when somebody asked me a question it’s easy
[00:41:12] for me to have a discussion with them about it so please go to my website educate for life org I’d love for you to check it out and see all the great
[00:41:18] resource that are there for you okay I wanted to pick up on the issue you know a while
[00:41:24] back I was talking to an atheist about the founding of the country and and
[00:41:29] whether a cross should remain on public property or not and this particular atheist said to me that the founding
[00:41:36] fathers owned slaves therefore their view of quote the
[00:41:41] separation of church and state and so forth was irrelevant because of what they said and again you’ll hear this
[00:41:49] attack frequently from typically those on the Left who will say something like
[00:41:55] you did this or you did that and therefore your opinion is irrelevant to
[00:42:00] this discussion now this is a logical fallacy in arguing it’s an emotional attack and what it’s
[00:42:08] called it’s called poisoning the well and this is the definition it’s a type
[00:42:13] of informal logical fallacy where irrelevant adverse information about a target is preemptively presented to an
[00:42:21] audience with the intention of discrediting or ridiculing something that the target person is about to say
[00:42:27] so a great example is Thomas Jefferson many people don’t know this Thomas
[00:42:32] Jefferson was an abolitionist he wanted slavery to end he was very very very
[00:42:37] much into ending slavery but he also had slaves in Virginia he had slaves and so
[00:42:44] a person looks at this and goes what in the world you’re a hypocrite how can you
[00:42:49] have slaves and say you’re against slavery but again the question comes up
[00:42:55] could Thomas Jefferson present valid facts about the issue of slavery that
[00:43:02] are valid and still have slaves well yeah he could now you might say well
[00:43:09] yeah but he shouldn’t and that’s certainly true he shouldn’t now there
[00:43:15] are particular issues in his situation where people say well this is why he had slaves because if he had let his slaves
[00:43:20] go they would have gone being gone right back into slavery picked up or he
[00:43:26] himself could have been brought under pressure because he had he let his slaves go and you weren’t
[00:43:32] allowed to let your slaves go and so different people will say that’s not justified it doesn’t matter but the real
[00:43:38] question is is is he’s still able to give his opinion about the issue of slavery even though he has slaves and
[00:43:45] the answer as hard as it might be to hear is yes a person’s opinion is not
[00:43:51] immediately invalid simply because they have a moral failing even if it pertains to that issue
[00:43:57] that’s called poisoning the well the person’s opinion or their ideas or or
[00:44:03] their thoughts on an issue are not validated or invalidated by who they are
[00:44:09] or what they’ve done the merits of the idea have to stand on their own and so you may have somebody who says something
[00:44:16] very intelligent but you really don’t like them they’re just an annoying person or they just really rub you the
[00:44:22] wrong way and you think to yourself well boy I can’t stand that person but but the fact
[00:44:28] of the matter is is when it comes to weighing an argument or something somebody has said whether you like them
[00:44:35] or not whether you think they’re a good person or not is not immediately irrelevant it’s what they what their
[00:44:43] idea is does it have merit or does it not and so this is why even though
[00:44:49] Thomas Jefferson had slaves right he wrote the the he had was highly
[00:44:54] influential in the Declaration of Independence right and so he says that all men are created equal right we have
[00:45:01] unalienable rights and then you look at that you go but he had slaves how can he make that statement does that mean that
[00:45:06] we were not created to brought by God or that his opinion that we’re all created equal is automatically invalid no that means
[00:45:13] he had a moral failing that means he didn’t he didn’t his values right didn’t
[00:45:19] match up with the way he was living but the fact of the matter is is that this is the case almost all the time well for
[00:45:28] a lot of the time so if you’re a Christian you know what the Bible says and your standards are extremely high
[00:45:34] but do you always measure up to those standards absolutely not does that mean that your standards are invalid no of course not which is
[00:45:42] better to be a person who has very high standards but doesn’t always meet those standards or to be a person who has very
[00:45:48] low standards who always meets those standards hi so this is the situation that we’re seeing right now on the left
[00:45:55] in a lot of ways when you look at something like Juanita Broderick who says look it I came forward and I told
[00:46:02] everybody that Bill Clinton raped me I had all the evidence in the world I had
[00:46:08] tons of evidence he was an attorney general and and yet here he still was
[00:46:16] got to become the president even though it was well known what he had done what an incredible double standard and
[00:46:22] so they we look at Kavanagh here incredibly unsubstantiated claims against him 36 years ago when he was 17
[00:46:30] in the the girl was 15 and if you look at all I believe it’s now over 65 women have come forward and testified about
[00:46:36] what how well they have been treated by kavanah and yet we’re still dealing with
[00:46:43] this people saying he doesn’t deserve to be confirmed by the US Supreme Court by
[00:46:49] the Senate because 36 years ago we have an unsubstantiated claim that that he
[00:46:56] sexually tried to sexually abuse somebody that he sexually abused somebody this is an incredible double
[00:47:02] standard regardless of whether you whether you feel that it’s true or not
[00:47:07] the fact of the matter is is that what’s happening is that people that are
[00:47:13] liberal not all and I’m not I’m not trying to stereotype here but there’s a lot of people on the left and on the
[00:47:18] liberal side that they don’t really care about what kavanah did what they care about is that he doesn’t get confirmed
[00:47:24] because if he does get confirmed there’s a strong potential that Roe versus Wade
[00:47:30] will be overturned and that’s the real issue here and so we need to think very
[00:47:36] clearly about these things the Bible says that we’re to be as clever as serpents as gentle as doves and I
[00:47:42] believe that in this particular situation that’s what we’re dealing with you know and I teach Christian high
[00:47:47] school students I teach 12th graders and right now we’re talking about the issue of human trafficking and we’re going
[00:47:53] back to the issue of slavery with William Wilberforce and if you look
[00:47:59] at his fight against against slavery it was him against about 300 members of
[00:48:05] parliament who all were motivated by their desire to make money they were moded motivated by their financial gain
[00:48:12] he was motivated by his love for God his love for Christ to abolish slavery because he believed that all men were
[00:48:18] created equal and he lived a pretty good life that guy was a pretty morally upright person but they slandered him
