How School Unions Bully Teachers – Rebecca Friedricks

[00:00:32] is battling state and national teachers unions for the heart and soul of our kids and country and before I introduce

[00:00:38] or bring her on let me tell you a little bit about what she’s been through from April 2013 through June 2016 she was the

[00:00:47] lead plaintiff in a federal lawsuit attempting to restore the First Amendment rights of free speech and free

[00:00:53] association to millions of public sector workers in the United States now if you’ve been following this at all you

[00:00:58] you know about the Janis case and that past but she is before the Janis case her soup which was Friedreich’s versus

[00:01:05] California Teachers Association was filed with nine other teachers and the Christian educators educators Association International and that’s

[00:01:13] David schmooze brought suit against the NEA the CTA and ten local unions and

[00:01:19] superintendents now the oral arguments for that case took place in Washington

[00:01:24] DC at the Supreme Court on January 11 2016 but due to Justice Scalia’s death

[00:01:32] the court rendered a split four-four decision and Rebecca and her fellow plaintiffs petition for a rehearing of

[00:01:39] the case when a ninth Supreme Court justice could be appointed but that was

[00:01:45] denied on June in June of 2016 now interestingly enough the Janice case did

[00:01:53] pass in June of 2018 but we’re going to be talking all about what Rebecca is doing and where her

[00:01:59] where she got the impetus to start this movement and to say hey what’s happening

[00:02:05] with the teachers union and in the public schools is not good for our kids and it’s part it’s the big battle that

[00:02:11] word that’s taken place the culture war that happening all over so Rebecca thanks for being on the program today thanks for

[00:02:17] having me happy to be here so why don’t we start our back at the beginning give our listeners some of your background

[00:02:22] how you got in interested in what’s happening within the teacher unions and your own career and so forth sure I got

[00:02:29] interested when I was a student teacher I was 22 years old serving under this outstanding master

[00:02:35] teacher who taught me everything I know but next door was this teacher who was actually manhandling the children I

[00:02:40] witnessed it every single day they came up to her waist they were first graders she would grab them yank them and scream right in their

[00:02:47] little faces my goodness just trying to get them lined up after recess and I was disturbed by it and so I asked my master

[00:02:54] teacher you know I’m learning about a reporting child abuse and I think I see

[00:03:00] some and it’s the teacher next door and I don’t know what to do and that’s when my master teacher sat me down and she

[00:03:05] said Rebecca today’s the day you learn about teachers unions and she taught me that basically in many cases districts

[00:03:13] know there’s a problem with a teacher but they can’t get rid of them not just because of tenure but because of

[00:03:18] collectively bargained grievance procedures that make it almost impossible to rid themselves of these

[00:03:24] teachers so I decided right then I didn’t want to be a part of giving money or being part of an organization that

[00:03:30] would allow the abuse of little children who are supposed to be protected and then she told me how the unions were

[00:03:36] using teachers dues money to push all sorts of politics that most teachers abhor yeah so I was just disgusted so I

[00:03:44] didn’t want to be a part of it from the beginning and then I quickly found out when I signed my first contract that I

[00:03:49] didn’t have a choice I didn’t have to be a member of the Union I didn’t have to pay dues but I

[00:03:56] had to accept their representation and I had to pay fees and the difference between dues and fees was 50 bucks a

[00:04:03] year so I really had no choice yeah and that’s when my fight began yeah and so

[00:04:08] for those of you listening if you you know the public schools and the education system essentially there’s a

[00:04:13] monopoly on what’s happening in the public schools my heart for this whole issue is because I found it incredibly

[00:04:20] frustrating that we can’t present biblical perspectives on issues in the

[00:04:26] schools in the name of separation of church and state and then come to find out as I got older separation of church and state is not

[00:04:33] even in the Constitution thank you very much yeah exactly and so this was very

[00:04:38] frustrating to me so this has always been something that I’ve been passionate about and so as you you go down that

[00:04:43] road and as you’ve been exploring this what led to what what led up to the Friedreich’s the case at the Supreme

[00:04:51] Court what led up to that situation well I’d like to address something you just said first and that is that the National

[00:04:58] Education Association actually was started in the late 1800s by a bunch of teachers like myself who wanted to bring

[00:05:05] biblical values into our schools and the values were already there through the McGuffey readers and our schools were

[00:05:12] founded upon traditional judeo-christian values just like our country yeah and

[00:05:17] these teachers were creating little booklets that were full of Scripture full of stories of heroism and

[00:05:22] patriotism and it was their goal to get these little booklets into the hands of every single child in America through

[00:05:28] their teachers and teachers were learning in school to memorize these booklets and so that’s what teachers

[00:05:34] were doing yeah but then in the 60s the unions came in and unionized teachers

[00:05:40] the National Education Association and that’s where everything started going awry them and a few readers were removed

[00:05:46] and the values were removed so our case started after I had been teaching gosh I

[00:05:55] think twenty four years by the time we brought our lawsuit throughout my entire career I tried every way I knew how to

[00:06:01] make the voice of teachers parents and children heard in our schools I served as a union leader on the local union

[00:06:07] Executive Board I would go to school board meetings I’d speak to school board members privately I would work with

[00:06:13] parents did everything I possibly could and all the union’s did was bully me

[00:06:19] when I stood for vouchers because I believed they were good for children and you’re good for teachers and good for

[00:06:25] taxpayers I was bullied so I discovered that no matter what I did that was right

[00:06:31] for kids yeah I was always stopped by a union I was forced to fund yeah and so

[00:06:37] many I think I’ve heard other teachers feel the same way that hey this is and your book really speaks to this you were saying you have

[00:06:43] a lot of stories of teachers that have been put into that same situation mm-hmm that’s right so can you give us a little bit about that is that it those are

[00:06:50] basically your testimony multiplied that’s your experience is what’s in this book that’s right revelation 12:11 says

[00:06:56] we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony yeah and we can’t be afraid yeah of death and a lot

[00:07:02] of people are afraid because the union’s are scary and so they’re afraid to speak out and so what I discovered is that

[00:07:07] teachers would take me into dark rooms and they would thank me for what I was doing fighting for them at a school

[00:07:13] board meeting or fighting for them in a meeting yeah but they wouldn’t stand up with me in public because they were too

[00:07:19] scared because everybody’s afraid to stick their neck out that’s right yeah so what happened when we took our case

[00:07:24] to the Supreme Court even though we lost because of Justice Scalia’s death in a lot of ways we won because well first we

[00:07:31] blazed the trail for the Jana’s case but teachers from all over the country started reaching out to me they’d find

[00:07:37] me through my work email or I don’t know how they just find me yeah and I started talking to some really brave teachers

[00:07:43] who were willing to share their stories with their names attached so I started collecting those stories and I have

[00:07:49] close to 50 stories in my book and I have other stories that didn’t make the book so there’s a lot of brave teachers

[00:07:54] and we share how the union’s bullied us into unionization in the 60s of a 90

[00:08:00] year old teacher in the book who shares her story of how five men in black suits came in to harass her when she didn’t

[00:08:06] join the Union feel like they did it twice that’s exactly what she said I have stories of teachers who tried to

[00:08:12] decertify the union’s who were who were treated I mean horribly just attacked one of

[00:08:19] them told me she felt like she was president Trump running for president of the United States because they were attacked her so much yeah I have stories

[00:08:25] of teachers who had the courage to cross the picket line because they wanted to protect their students and they were harassed harassed to this day for it so

[00:08:33] we all share our stories and we expose that what’s really going on in our schools is good and loving teachers are

[00:08:40] trying very hard to teach our kids but we are being undermined by an organization that not only takes our

[00:08:47] money to the tune of billions of dollars a year tax-free but they use it to

[00:08:53] undermine our very values and to bring harm to the students we love ya so essentially a political activism group

[00:08:59] it is and they’re now trying to teach our students to be social justice warriors actually they are doing that

[00:09:05] they have children out picketing and you know the March for our lives taking children out of the classroom using them

[00:09:11] as pawns in the gun debate across this entire country even though parents were upset and teachers were upset yeah so

[00:09:17] it’s gotten very out of control and I believe that teachers can stop it because teachers are the only ones who

[00:09:22] can say hey unions we don’t want you representing us anymore absolutely well my guest today is Rebecca Friedreich’s and her website for

[00:09:30] kids and country is if you if you’re passionate about this issue you know we working together we can make

[00:09:36] a much bigger difference than when we’re isolated in our own little classroom and and don’t know the the bigger picture

[00:11:23] this is where it starts right the future generations are being educated the Bible says be transformed by the renewing of

[00:11:30] your mind but if 90% of our kids are going to public schools where essentially God has been outlawed and the case for a biblical worldview a

[00:11:36] judeo-christian worldview has been outlawed well then nobody’s mind is going to be renewed and what you’re

[00:11:42] going to end up with is a society that becomes more and more secularized and though all the problems we’re seeing

[00:11:47] with the gender issues with moral relativism with the the waning morality

[00:11:54] in our country a lot of those issues all come back to education and so my guest

[00:12:00] today is Rebecca Friedreich’s and she’s passionate about this she’s been fighting in this issue all the way up to

[00:12:05] the Supreme Court and she’s recently written a book about this standing up to Goliath which has the testimony of many

[00:12:12] teachers who have had to deal with the teachers unions and essentially been bullied into silence and this is

[00:12:18] important because you talked to some people and they go oh you’re just making this all up it’s a non-issue it’s it’s

[00:12:23] you know this people aren’t being hurt by this everybody everything’s fine but her book um talks all about this and has the

[00:12:30] testimonies of over 50 people that have had to deal with this so Rebecca you

[00:12:36] know there’s a lot of positive things that seem to have been happening recently with we’ve got a bunch of

[00:12:41] conservative Supreme Court justices Neil Gorsuch and and just recently another

[00:12:48] Supreme Court Justice Gavin Kavanagh and that’s good we have had the Janis case

[00:12:54] passed we have the expansion of school choice and charter schools so it seems

[00:13:00] like there’s all these positive things happening but can you explain to us what in the aftermath of Janis how does this

[00:13:08] change things for teachers what for our listeners who aren’t familiar with that process passed in June 2016 explain to

[00:13:15] them what Janis passing means for teachers unions and school well Janice Pasi means that every single

[00:13:24] government employee who is in a union now has the freedom to pay that Union

[00:13:31] nothing so if you’re a DMV worker va a police officer teacher fire whatever it

[00:13:37] is if you’re in a union you can leave now and pay them nothing the problem is as I’ve stated from day one is getting

[00:13:44] that win is just the first domino we have a lot of work to do because especially with teachers they’re too

[00:13:51] afraid to leave the Union there are a few brave ones so either illegal now they’re still concerned about losing

[00:13:57] their job or something oh yeah they’re terrified over a lot of things the main things bothering teachers is that

[00:14:03] they’re believing some deceptions first of all most teachers like their local Association because that’s a friend

[00:14:08] standing together in a very corrupt system they know that they need the power of uniting and they’re right

[00:14:14] they’re right but they don’t realize that most of the money they pay goes up

[00:14:20] to the state National Union and most of that money gets used for politics for example if a teacher pays a thousand

[00:14:26] dollars a year in California 700 automatically goes to the California Teachers Association that’s the state

[00:14:32] yeah 192 goes to the National Education Association so the local would keep a

[00:14:37] hundred eight dollars in that situation a thousand dollars yeah you know that it’s interesting that you bring that up because I actually was speaking at a

[00:14:44] church and I brought up the pot all this good stuff about Janice it was kind of an intro thing and then I went into what

[00:14:50] I was speaking on and I had a woman come up to me afterwards and go Janice is a horrible thing it’s not a good thing she

[00:14:56] said I’m the president of our local teachers union and she was actually really upset at me kind of caught me off guard because I was thinking wait a

[00:15:02] second here this is a good thing for being able to introduce you read them

[00:15:08] yeah freedom and and parental choice and everything else like you have free association

[00:15:13] you know but that’s something that you see as I caught a very common thing well it’s teachers are very confused and

[00:15:19] obviously that was probably a Christian teacher too who probably shares your values in here she is paying thousand dollars a year or more against her

[00:15:26] values because the teachers unions values are 100% against judeo-christian

[00:15:31] values and and aggressively so I have give us an example absolutely can I have some Christian teacher friends

[00:15:38] who serve at the National Education Association as representatives of teachers and when they bring in medically accurate information about sex

[00:15:46] education saying look some of the sex education is abusive teaching children

[00:15:51] there’s more than two genders or teaching little children to have sex out

[00:15:56] of wedlock as little kids or multiple partners or oral to anal sex things I

[00:16:02] don’t even know if I can say on the radio they’re teaching our little kids yeah so these teachers will go in and say at the national level we want

[00:16:09] balance let’s teach balance my friends have been spit upon for doing that and

[00:16:14] they have been told there’s a special place in hell for people like you for daring to try to defend and protect

[00:16:21] little children that’s what that Christian teacher is funding and the unions get that money tax-free close to

[00:16:28] five billion dollars a year tax-free from teachers like her what she doesn’t understand is her local probably is a

[00:16:34] lot of nice teachers but most of the money’s going up to the state and the national and being used to actually

[00:16:40] defeat her values I would guess that that teacher might tell you that she’s stressed out because we can’t discipline

[00:16:46] kids well in the classroom anymore the teachers unions supported that hmm racial equity discipline policies that

[00:16:53] came through the Obama administration I would guess that that teachers upset about the sex ed if she’s seen it

[00:16:58] because it if they haven’t seen it they don’t know but if they’ve seen it they’re mortified yeah and this is a

[00:17:04] huge problem here in San Diego because the San Diego City Schools there’s a big fight going on right now

[00:17:09] Dean Broyles has been on the program and talked about how they’re actually using essentially pornography in order to try

[00:17:16] to teach kids about sex and the point that he was making was that if this was

[00:17:23] taught by any teacher in a classroom it would be considered so out of line and so inappropriate and like you were

[00:17:29] saying abusive in a sense that how in the world that they’re able to get away

[00:17:35] with promoting this as sex education is they get away with it because the teachers unions are behind it the

[00:17:41] teachers unions help to write these laws they lobby for them and teachers have no idea that they’re fun

[00:17:47] this stuff and so you get a teacher like that who pushes back on you and you’re doing the right thing yes cuz she doesn’t know in my book I have three

[00:17:54] chapters exposing the sex ed who’s behind it where it’s coming from the unions are working in partnership with

[00:18:02] Southern Poverty Law Center n-double-a-cp ACLU Planned Parenthood all these

[00:18:08] different groups that are literally pushing an agenda of gay lesbian straight Education Network they’re

[00:18:14] working with all these very powerful groups and pushing an agenda into our schools against parental authority yeah

[00:18:22] teachers have no idea they’re funding it and and the whole thing is this is a free country if they want to live that

[00:18:28] lifestyle more power to them it is it’s their right to do that but it is not their right to bring it into our schools

[00:18:34] and damage our children with ideology yeah against their parents will exactly

[00:18:40] and these teachers don’t know they’re funding it yeah you know it’s amazing to Erick bureau told me that by far the

[00:18:47] vast majority of teachers in California would claim to have a Christian worldview and yet by far the vast

[00:18:55] majority of them are supporting these perspectives that are completely against

[00:19:02] biblical morality or or whatever the case and so that’s right so I guess the

[00:19:08] question is you know where’s the what are we missing here what’s the the step that we’re missing

[00:19:13] so what’s miss the problem is teachers have been deceived they’ve been told that their pay and their pension and

[00:19:19] their liability are dependent upon the Union so they’re afraid they’re going to get sued if they leave the Union they’re

[00:19:25] afraid they’re going to lose their jobs afraid they’ll lose their pensions afraid they’ll lose their contract with their district so what teachers need to

[00:19:32] know is that all of that is not true their contract is a legal document between their local and their district

[00:19:37] the state and national have nothing to do with it their pay and their pension is all funded by the taxpayers and their

[00:19:45] pensions by the way are in deep trouble because the unions won’t listen to us and they’re trillions in unfunded

[00:19:51] pension liabilities because the unions refuse to change into a different type of pension system which would be good

[00:19:57] for teachers so teachers are actually vulnerable and don’t know it and then the last thing is they think that the unions

[00:20:03] protect them from being sued because of this liability insurance well they can get that liability insurance on their

[00:20:09] own through Christian educators Association International or Association of American educators and they get

[00:20:15] double the coverage instead of 1 million they’ll get 2 million Wow so it’s better coverage and those folks will actually

[00:20:20] defend them I have a teacher friend who just lost her job in three days she paid her union dues faithfully for 26 years

[00:20:27] was fired in three days for daring to discipline a child she did nothing wrong

[00:20:32] so it’s it’s more like will defend you as long as you abide by what we think is right that we’re not protecting here

[00:20:38] we’re not protecting your job unless you’re all your your values are the same as ours that is exactly right and until

[00:20:44] teachers see that they’re gonna keep hanging on to that Union to their own demise to the demise of the country to

[00:20:50] the mice demise of the children so that’s why we wrote this book to educate teachers and help them to see the truth

[00:20:56] my guest today is Rebecca Friedreich’s her website for kids in country org and

[00:21:12] this issue is it’s its premiere it’s really the pinnacle it’s the crux of the issue all the other

[00:21:17] issues that we’re dealing with when it comes to the issue of abortion and what’s happening in New York right now what’s happened in Virginia you know

[00:21:24] every even the people on the Left complaining about the sexism and and

[00:21:30] inequality and all these things it all comes back to what is your moral foundation what is your moral base and

[00:21:36] we’ve erased that from the heart and minds of the kids so stay with us we’re gonna talk more about this and what you

[00:23:35] that they’re just not aware of how they can make a difference and so Rebecca Friedreich’s is my guest she’s been very

[00:23:42] very much involved in this issue for a long time now and recently came out with out with a book that you should buy

[00:23:48] standing up to Goliath which really gives all the background on this issue and gives you a lot of the information

[00:23:54] you need to be able to talk about it intelligently right we want to be able to communicate this in a way that people

[00:24:00] can respond to and in my own experience you know there’s a lot of really good teachers out there they love God they

[00:24:07] love kids they work hard at their jobs and they have no intention of doing the

[00:24:12] wrong thing but they’ve been sucked up into this union and the unions have existed for so long and unions in and of

[00:24:18] themselves aren’t bad that’s not what we’re saying but currently the NEA the California Teachers Association their

[00:24:24] values do not match Christian values and you have an opportunity to change this now that Janice has passed you can you

[00:24:31] can opt out of supporting things that are contrary to what you believe so Rebecca talked to us about this what

[00:24:38] what can the teachers do you let’s say you’ve got this teacher at an elementary school she’s a part of the Union she

[00:24:45] hears what you’re saying she agrees with you but like you said she’s afraid that she’s going to offend her local union

[00:24:52] and she’s gonna lose her job and she’s not gonna be able to provide for her family right what do you say to that man that teacher I know so many of them are

[00:24:58] so frightened and I’ve walked in their shoes mm-hmm so what I would say to those teachers is

[00:25:03] this is nothing about being anti-union in fact most teachers want to be United

[00:25:09] we want to be a good Union yeah but the problem is we don’t want corruption and

[00:25:15] we have been corrupted by state national teachers unions are very profession has been degraded and

[00:25:21] corrupted by those unions so what I would say to a teacher like that is you have to start by educating yourself and

[00:25:27] educating your friends and that’s a whole reason I wrote this book was what I discovered was there are so many

[00:25:33] deceptions out there that teachers are believing and it’s because they’ve been told these things over and over in every

[00:25:39] staff meeting and through flyers in their mailbox and and so it’s not the fault of teachers but they’ve been

[00:25:46] deceived so I would ask that teacher to prayerfully consider reading this book

[00:25:52] for themselves getting educated when they read the stories they will be shocked every teacher I know who’s read

[00:25:58] this book so far has told me that they immediately opted out of the Union because they were so aghast at what they

[00:26:05] were funding and they didn’t know and they were so horrified by the hurt that’s being brought to children so do

[00:26:13] that first and then the second thing I recommend is I started a program called adopt a teacher I actually started that

[00:26:18] program prayerfully I was God’s idea yeah he always has great ideas and so

[00:26:24] the program is you just find every teacher you know and love teachers that you know share your good values like

[00:26:30] really care about the kids you put your arm around those teachers and you adopt them and I have 6yz that you follow and

[00:26:37] I have a little half half sheet flyer that’s on our website for kids in country or you can get it for free it

[00:26:42] shows you what to do how to love on them how to talk to them and you just give them a copy of the book and I have it in

[00:26:47] audio it’s on Kindle I mean you can get it for next to nothing online yeah and give them a copy and have them read it

[00:26:54] once they read it now you tell a friend they tell a friend data and I asked churches to do this to please adopt the

[00:27:00] teachers in your church stand with them teachers are terrified they can’t do this alone so I ask people parents faith

[00:27:07] leaders please stand with us and if we all stand together we can fight this absolutely we can help teachers to have

[00:27:13] a good united front locally without being corrupted you you mentioned

[00:27:19] something about the charter schools too and want to let teachers know if you love charter schools your union has a

[00:27:24] moratorium on charter schools they are trying to stop charter schools nationwide and this just happened in LA

[00:27:29] – yes it did past their City Council is that right what actually it was it was part of the

[00:27:34] UT LA strike okay a school board is being forced through that strike to place a moratorium on any new charters

[00:27:41] and they’re they’ve been asked to put pressure on the state to do the same thing and our state legislators will do

[00:27:47] it because the majority of them have been placed in office by the teachers they’re trying to stop all those charters the reason why is because

[00:27:53] charter schools are typically not unionized and it’s all about the union not getting their money and their power

[00:27:59] and their ability to bring their agenda in through our schools so it’s very imperative to protect our charters and

[00:28:06] our private schools and our homeschoolers a lot of homeschoolers think oh I’m not impacted oh yes you are because there if you read Union

[00:28:12] documentation they’re trying to stop homes owners yeah because they want every child in unionized public schools

[00:28:21] that are and they want to force every teacher to be a part of this Union ideology and if teachers won’t teach it

[00:28:27] like the sex ed the sex ed has a statement in it the law that if a teacher won’t teach it well that’s okay

[00:28:34] they bring the professionals in the experts in and Planned Parenthood will teach your children so teachers we can’t

[00:28:40] escape but we can’t put our heads in the sand yeah we have to stand up together it’s time for Christian teachers in

[00:28:46] particular to be brave yeah and and for others pastors and parents to be brave with us yeah and

[00:28:51] with and this is a good time to do it because there’s a lot of there’s a lot of momentum you know there’s a lot of people out there that are passionate

[00:28:57] about this I I hear about this issue way more than I used to in the past I mean as far as you know opting out that

[00:29:05] wasn’t an option just you know prior to 2018 so this is this is your chance to

[00:29:11] make a difference and actually begin to see some really really exciting and incredible change and so I was so if

[00:29:19] you’re at a church right now I mean and you’re listening think about the teachers in your congregation every

[00:29:24] congregation has teachers and and give them a free copy of this book get them

[00:29:31] informed because this is our biggest issue is ignorant right now so if you’re

[00:29:36] if you’re thinking why isn’t anything happening it’s not because the laws haven’t been passed the laws passed it’s

[00:29:41] not because we don’t have conservative justices we’ve got concern Justices it’s not because the opportunities aren’t there it’s simply

[00:29:48] because people just don’t know that’s right and so so if you would please join

[00:29:53] up with Rebecca for kids in country org that’s the website and that website has

[00:29:59] all kinds of resources on there and it has all kinds of people that are dealing with this issue and taking it head on

[00:30:04] and you can be encouraged and go ok how do I move forward in this so again her

[00:30:10] book is standing up to Goliath you can get it pretty much anywhere and read it get educated about this issue so my next

[00:30:17] question for you Rebecca is what how has Janice so far impacted things are you I know it seems

[00:30:24] to be that change is slow right and people are it takes a while for people to become informed but are you starting

[00:30:31] to see a few people trickle out of the unions and join the Christian Education Association International are you seeing

[00:30:38] that process starting to happen what kind of a positive lights are you seeing

[00:30:44] so the positive is yes some brave people are leaving the other positive though those who were already what we call fee

[00:30:51] payers they were non-members but had to pay all those fees yeah they were automatically led out of the Union they had to be legally so that’s good but the

[00:31:00] negative is yeah from day one from the minute our case was filed the unions

[00:31:05] started something called the Friedreich’s fix and they started creating all these fixes they named it

[00:31:10] after you go well quietly I don’t know if they named it that you know I I had to hear that from legislators who would

[00:31:16] tell me their ring and in the Friedreich’s fix huh and so they had all these fixes yeah it’s so that if we won

[00:31:21] they could undermine the law and they have been able to pass a lot of these fixes and have made them law now for

[00:31:28] example one of them is that every new employee in a union shop has to spend 30

[00:31:33] minutes with the union on company time on the taxpayer dime to learn about how great the union is and how much they

[00:31:39] need the union had to be pressured into the union and of course nobody else gets invited Christian educators doesn’t get

[00:31:45] invited so there’s a lot of pressure now the second thing is the unions and I knew they’d do this they raised the dues

[00:31:51] so they’re gonna get less because people have left but they just raise them they

[00:31:57] don’t have we don’t have to vote for our dues to be raised as teachers they’re just raised Wow just so Garbutt rarely at their whim yep

[00:32:04] that’s right and so they’re doing those kind of things but the biggest thing they did that I think is really shameful

[00:32:12] and I want people to know about it and that is during oral arguments in the

[00:32:17] Janis case the union attorney ended the arguments by stating that if the

[00:32:24] justices he basically threatened the justices that if you let these employees go and they don’t have to pay fees there

[00:32:30] is going to be quote an untold specter of union unrest across the country

[00:32:35] because union dues I forget his exact words but yeah he bit and he said that

[00:32:41] union dues are the the I forget the words he use but like the payment for no strikes okay he was threatening them that’s what

[00:32:48] we’re seeing right now strikes all over the country what I want teachers and others to know is don’t be used by these

[00:32:55] people these strikes aren’t to really to get you a better salary or to do better

[00:33:00] things for the kids these strikes are to give the unions more power and and they’re basically it’s they’re keeping

[00:33:07] their threat they’re creating all this labor unrest and they are claiming that it’s a grassroots movement this red for

[00:33:14] IDI teacher strike movement it’s not I’ve talked to teachers who were on the ground part of making red for IDI they

[00:33:20] were you know they believed the lies at the time they helped create it as union

[00:33:26] leaders and they told me the union was always there we weren’t a grassroots movement oh yeah and as soon as we got

[00:33:32] our raise and we were all happy the Union did not even say thank you to the governor this was the state of Arizona

[00:33:39] instead they morphed red Fred in to invest in ed to raise taxes on Arizonans so this is what the unions are doing

[00:33:46] they’re using teachers to push their agenda to raise more taxes to get you

[00:33:51] know they’re they’re really into the very far left ideology and that’s what

[00:33:57] they’re doing so that’s the negative but that’s their big temper tantrum if we

[00:34:03] stand up in in good faith and in integrity and say I’m not going to be

[00:34:08] used and I’m not going to stand for this people threatening the justices of the

[00:34:14] Supreme Court of the United States and and having these massive temper tantrums

[00:34:19] on our dime if we stand up and say I’m not gonna pay you anymore um you know I’d like to say to teachers you know a

[00:34:25] lot of us have stood up and left the Union and we’re still alive yeah we’re still here and I just hope

[00:34:31] that they will and I hope people will stand with them because we really can’t stop that mess yeah absolutely

[00:34:36] I’m very optimistic about it I think a lot of times in the face of it you can be very discouraged but the reality is

[00:34:43] is there’s good things happen all over the place so you know what the number one thing you can do is get yourself

[00:34:49] educated read the book and when you hear the stories it’s gonna motivate you to

[00:34:54] go hey you know what there’s no way I can just lie down and take this I need to leave this Union and I need to join

[00:35:00] another Union you can still be a part of a union but a union that has supports your values and so we have one more

[00:36:28] is educate for life I’m your host Kevin Conover and we’re talking to Rebecca Friedreich’s today and you know she’s

[00:36:35] all about the education system she was a teacher for a very long time how long were you a teacher 28 years 28 years and

[00:36:40] so she knows teaching in the public schools inside and out I I ran for

[00:36:46] school board a couple years back because I was so concerned about what was happening in the schools and you know

[00:36:53] find a way to get involved in what’s happening her book is standing up to Goliath battling state and national

[00:36:59] teachers unions for the heart and soul of our kids and country and while we were off the air Rebecca and I were

[00:37:04] chatting and you know sometimes it feels like who is our enemy here they seem so

[00:37:11] elusive sometimes because I’m sure that stat that you shared with me off the air yes I wanted teachers especially to know

[00:37:17] yeah that the National Education Association has run some studies three different times I believe the first time

[00:37:23] was 1971 the most recent was in 2006 and these in these internal studies they

[00:37:29] asked teachers what is your where do you lean politically yeah and what they

[00:37:34] discovered was only 13% of teachers consider themselves decisively on the

[00:37:40] left yet almost a hundred percent of union dues go to the far left okay and

[00:37:48] then they discovered that about sixty percent of teachers lean conservative

[00:37:54] and so teachers really am my experience as a teacher most teachers I know they

[00:38:00] might not vote conservative but they at least have conservative values absolutely they care about ya they care about kids so if you care

[00:38:07] about a kid you don’t want you don’t want a kid abused you don’t want a kid going off and getting an abortion you don’t want how these sorts of things and

[00:38:13] so hey if you’re out there you’re not alone we just got to speak up right we’re all hiding

[00:38:19] I’m afraid that somebody’s gonna find out that hey I’m a conservative or I I voted for Trump or whatever it might be

[00:38:26] but if we just speak up and begin to make people more aware of hey this makes sense and that’s the other thing too is

[00:38:31] that it’s just common sense it’s not as if it’s it’s confusing to be

[00:38:37] conservative about edge and about these sorts of things we all want education to get better if you have

[00:38:44] charter schools well I had somebody say to me you know they were looking at the stats between a charter school in a

[00:38:50] public school and they said well this charter school is not doing as good as the public school and I said you know that’s not the issue the issue isn’t

[00:38:55] whether charter schools do better than public school it’s the fact that charter schools bring in competition remarket

[00:39:00] and they force public schools to have better accountability that’s right better choice exam tell you my husband

[00:39:06] is the on a school board for a charter school it’s only in its third year of its existence this past year they scored

[00:39:15] the highest scores in the state Wow for raised scores children bringing up

[00:39:21] their scores highest in the state they’re in the middle of Santa Ana in a depressed area their students are second

[00:39:28] language and they cater to foster children foster children get the first spots in the school okay right up the

[00:39:34] union’s lie to people and they say Oh charters don’t take kids with trouble Oh char ters don’t take kids on IEP s that

[00:39:40] is not true there might be some charters who specialized in certain things and so they’re not gonna take an IEP but I have

[00:39:46] a niece on an IEP who was in a charter and loved it and thrived there yeah and

[00:39:52] so it’s not true that charters aren’t doing as well in fact in most cases

[00:39:57] charters are doing better yeah and the unions have told teachers that charters don’t have have to live up to the same

[00:40:03] standards that’s not true either they just don’t have to be unionized so the Union doesn’t want them to exist so it’s

[00:40:10] just it’s important for people to get educated like you said we just we just don’t understand another thing you said

[00:40:16] made me think of something Christ would tell us and that that is don’t shine your hide your light under a bushel we

[00:40:24] have to shine our light and when I started really fighting this fight it was because the Lord laid on my heart

[00:40:30] that when we’re light we shine light on darkness and if we don’t shine light on

[00:40:35] darkness then we’re not being the light of Christ yeah and so we have to shine that truth and the other thing he really

[00:40:41] laid on my heart was he led me to the story of the Widow’s mite and where

[00:40:46] Christ saw this Widow putting a couple mites which is like two pennies into the offering and he told his disciples she

[00:40:52] just gave more than all the wealthy because she gave out of her nothing cuz I was terrified teachers I was terrified to

[00:40:58] stand up yeah I was terrified to speak out I was terrified to write an op-ed I’d never written an op-ed in my life

[00:41:05] yeah several years ago but it was the Lord that laid it on my heart and said just give me your two mites Rebecca you

[00:41:10] let me worry about everything else and my goodness all I wanted was an op-ed he took me to the United States Supreme

[00:41:16] Court that’s incredible yeah I mean you can’t you can’t limit God yeah so we can’t look at it as our battle against

[00:41:23] these scary people it’s God’s battle against those scary people and we just need to follow him have faith

[00:41:29] yeah and the thing is too is is not everybody’s gonna go to the Supreme Court but we all play a part we all play

[00:41:34] that role and it’s significant whether you’re impacting millions or whether you’re impacting your neighbor

[00:41:40] across the street it’s the body of Christ and it’s all significant and you know something came to my mind while I

[00:41:46] was listening to this is that there’s a there’s a psychological phenomenon where if you see somebody in distress I was

[00:41:54] watching a show on this the other day if you see somebody in distress people tend to think to themselves somebody else

[00:42:00] will handle them right they were talking about first responders and how first responders are trained not to say

[00:42:06] somebody called 9-1-1 or somebody you know go get a first-aid kit but they

[00:42:13] actually have to point out at the person and say you you go get the first-aid here the one yeah you’re the one because

[00:42:19] otherwise everybody just sits back and goes well somebody else is gonna do it right so I kinda you want to look at the

[00:42:24] camera there Rebecca whoever you are if you’re watching this I’m kind of want to call you out right you’re the one right

[00:42:32] and we’re not asking you to change the whole world we’re just asking you to talk to your neighbor talk to your local

[00:42:37] teacher talk to the person down the street or talk to your pastor talk to somebody and tell them about what’s

[00:42:44] going on and and I’m marketing her book I’m not getting any Commission on this

[00:42:49] or anything I’m just marketing her book because it’s the information that you need to be able to sit to be able to

[00:42:56] walk away from the Union to let go of that harness that’s holding you back

[00:43:02] from being able to make a difference and it’s just hugely significant I can’t overstate the importance of what

[00:43:08] we’re talking about that in order for things to change in order for us to see

[00:43:14] I actually believe and I’m praying for a revival through education that what

[00:43:19] happens is as God you know in the State of the Union address just recently Trump

[00:43:24] said I’m fighting for Bibles in I’m fighting for teaching the Bible in the

[00:43:31] public schools that’s how our school started exactly exactly and from that

[00:43:36] comes the ability to be educated well CS Lewis has a quote that I love he said

[00:43:43] education without values only seems to make man a more clever devil yes and

[00:43:48] that quote and and Martin Luther King has a quote also where he says

[00:43:57] specifically that a man who is educated but has no values only becomes a it’s

[00:44:05] essentially the same quote I can’t I can’t remember I’m familiar with it too yeah but the point is is that we have a

[00:44:12] public school system in which we’re growing individuals that are learning well to some degree they’re learning but

[00:44:19] they’re not there’s no basis in that’s their value systems so what do you end up with you end up with somebody who

[00:44:24] takes advantage of other people through the knowledge that they have right and that’s not what we want right nning well

[00:44:30] and our founders made it very clear that the only way that you can keep a

[00:44:36] republic our country is a republic the only way you can keep that is through an

[00:44:41] educated and moral citizenry and so our founders made it very clear if you go

[00:44:48] back and read their documents that they wanted a school system that had a moral

[00:44:54] basis in the Bible absolutely and they make it very clear they weren’t teaching religion they were teaching

[00:45:01] judeo-christian values so this country’s founded upon and if people think we can keep our Republic without them they are

[00:45:07] wrong yeah and absolutely what we’re watching absolutely that’s what we’re watching and real quick I just want to

[00:45:13] make an another point on this real quick because the natural thing that comes up in people’s minds is well if we begin

[00:45:18] teaching the Bible what about all these other religions and what about Buddhism what about Islam

[00:45:24] what about atheism right and they say don’t we need to teach these other religions and the answer is no because

[00:45:31] for two reasons first of all the country wasn’t founded on those particular religions and therefore we can’t tie our

[00:45:37] success and our prosperity and our well-being to those particular religions but beyond that if you look at countries

[00:45:45] that have embraced Islam for example what is the natural byproduct of embracing the Quran well it’s the

[00:45:51] oppression of women it’s a woman is worth half as much as a man it’s all kinds of things that put people down and

[00:45:59] and if you look at Buddhism and all these different things so from an apologetics perspective that’s what I am I’m an apologetics teacher so I’m

[00:46:05] constantly defending the truth of God’s Word why are we learning the Bible because everywhere the Bible goes there

[00:46:13] is well-being there is health there’s father’s becoming better fathers there’s parents becoming better parents

[00:46:19] there’s bosses becoming better bosses people are more generous they’re more

[00:46:25] kind they’re doing everything that’s good so you know I’ve talked to some teachers who taught in those olden days

[00:46:30] there’s a 90 year old teacher in my book it’s dedicated to a hundred one year old teacher well I talk about her she’s my

[00:46:36] aunt and those teachers told me that it wasn’t so much that they were teaching

[00:46:43] they weren’t teaching Christianity they were teaching the values yeah so right

[00:46:49] and so it’s this what do we all think about the golden rule do unto others as you’d have them do unto you I don’t know

[00:46:55] anyone who disagrees with the golden rule yeah well that’s what we were teaching in our schools that’s good and

[00:47:01] valuable and that leads to all the good and the beautiful and that’s what we were be kind that’s a theme in my book

[00:47:07] from aunt Jolene be kind that’s what she would teach her students be kind well and then I show people that the unions

[00:47:14] have taught us literally with these words quote be pissed off so what should

[00:47:19] we be teaching children to be pissed off or to be kind I think everyone would

[00:47:25] agree that kindness wins the day absolutely Rebecca thank you so much for being on the program today it’s been a big
